MLS is more rewarding in the public sector. But if you have the plans of going into private practice, then Pharmacy would be great.

As a Pharmacist from UNIBEN, I'll advice you to go for Pharmacy instead of MLS. You definitely will not regret it.

You will do mathematics at your 100L for both... Then some engineering courses at 300L for MLS...

Not really, but in your first 2 or 3 years you will need to take some math courses

Its not a core engineering course, it is biomedical engineering.
It teaches students how to do little repair of laboratory equipment and machine.

1- In the medical school you are more exposed to clinical medicine than pharmacy.
2- A Medical Lab Scientist is far more productive and relevant in today's Nigerian hospital than a pharmacist.
3-You are more easily employed than pharmacist, because there are far more pharmacist than certified MLS.
4- many people that claim to be medical Lab scientist are not. (Micro- biol, biochem) etc.
5- Medical NGO's employ much of the certified MLS because of the testing and laboratory challenges in NGOs.
6- the gain and profit in private Lab is far more than pharmacy. You can make profit of 5 times you capital. If you know you know.

I dont really support number 3 . I think there are more mls than there are pharmacist bkus almost every federal, state and some private schools now offer mls compared to the few pharmacy schools we have in Nigeria...I think there are more medlab scientists than pharmacist in Nigeria today

Though, some pharmacists do that but it is against the ethics of the profession. I'm a pharmacist.

Hahaha,this table you are shaking ehn. I know someone whose greatest life mistake till now is going to Pharmacy because he thinks he won't do maths and calculations. He suffered depression after extra years and eventually kicked out of Pharmacy school. Pharmacy is one of the toughest and most brutal courses in Nigerian universities, not even medicine where you have multiple chance to do resit. Granting of resit in Pharmacy school, even at the release of final results in your final year semester, is rigorously debated and usually rarely granted and unlike medicine, you can still be kicked out of Pharmacy school in your final year for not meeting up academically . If you are not strong academically, don't go near pharmacy because it will make you look dumb and dumber but if you are really smart, please go ahead and study it. It's actually a lucrative and prestigious profession

Pharmacy is only for the serious mind. You will only have problem if you are not serious with your study. I just graduated from UI Faculty of Pharmacy (with first class honor). I never had resit. I can say I know well about how it works. YOU JUST MUST BE SERIOUS!

I've seen some biochemist and microbiology graduates claim to be Medical lab Scientists. Is that proper? Is that not quackery?

I'm a graduate of MLS, chemical pathology option. And I've friends in the sister's dept pharmacy. The fear of mathematics shouldn't scare you any course at all. There are calculations in both MLS and pharmacy. We even offered Biophysics, bioengineering and little of analytical chemistry. See, so far you can read and you're smart you'll pass. You'll be taught before exams nah.

I am an MLS student in my finals, both mls and pharmacy are good courses with unending prospects. I think you should make your own personal research and understand the kind of working environment you would prefer. Pharmacy has more of chemistry when compared to mls. If you have an average intelligence you can thrive in mls, pham, medicine, nd radiography. You just need to be serious thats all.

I don't know why I've never liked Pharmacy and Nursing.

Had an opportunity to go to School of Nursing when I graduated from Secondary School,a decision I used to regret untill recently.

For me,after Medicine it is Radiography then MLS

Guy just go for your heart desire they are both the same in term of job prospects don't be deceived by those saying pharmacy has more upper hand I tell you 1)they are both taken on Level 10 in public sector And the salary scale is the same
2) you need license to practice MLS too.They both go for internship after graduation for one year,and issue license after that with your license you can practice either of the two as private entity infact MLS is winning more ground every now and then in health sector so just settle for any one good luck

Radiographers are more in demand right now. Go for radiography

Pharmacy duration can be 6 or 5 years (B.pharm and pharmD )depending on the institution while MLS is 5 year ( Doc MLS is still in progress).

Pharmacy is a professional course that deals with drugs dispense ,
medications, counsel patients on the use of prescription and over-the-counter medications, and advise physicians about medication therapy.
After being licensed by PCN, you can be a
Community Pharmacy, Clinical pharmacy,
Industrial Pharmacy, research scientists.

Medical Laboratory Science is a profession that uses chemical, hematological, immunologic, histopathological, cytopathological, microscopic, and bacteriological diagnostic analyses on body fluids such as blood, urine, sputum, stool, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), peritoneal fluid, pericardial fluid, and synovial fluid, as well as other specimens, to aid physicians in making decisions.

They work as Clinical Scientists in hospitals, private laboratories, research scientists, Biotechnologist, quality Control officer .



In terms of government employment, MLS are employed more than pharm. But in terms of private practice, a business oriented individual can get more in pharmacy compared to MLS.
