What is the sunnah way of drinking water? And is it permissible to drink water while standing?

Answer


Praise be to Allaah (SWT)

Narrated by Anas Ibn Malik (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that a person should drink while standing.

Qatada reported: We said to him: What about eating? Thereupon he (Anas) said: That is even worse and more detestable (abominable).

[Sahih Muslim Book 023, No 5018]

How To Drink Water According To Sunnah


1. Drink water with your right hand.

2. Drink water by sitting.

3. Start drinking water with saying Bismillah

4. See the water before drinking.

5. Drink water in 3 Sips.

6. Remove utensil from your mouth after each sip.

7. After finishing each sip say Alhamdulillah.

8. After 3 sips of drinking water, say finally Alhamdulillahi Wasshukru lillaah.

Benefits Of Sunnah Of Drink Water By Sitting And With 3 Sips Of Drinking Water.


1. Kidneys never fail.

2. Knees are functional always.

3. Backbone is always strong.

4. Heart Valves never stop.

5. The mind is always active.

As Muslims we believe in the unseen as Allaah described us in the third verse of surat u baqarah. Belief in the unseen entails the fact even if your five sense organs can detect something, it doesn't mean that such thing doesn't exist. Do you see infrared or x-ray? Yet you believe in it's existence.

Allaah's messenger has taught us that barakah (blessing) is in the right hand. Even if you don't see it, you must believe it. There's more to food than physical nutrition.

Any believer that strives to take only halaal income will see the power of Allaah's barakah in his life. And I'm talking from personal experience.

So, even if your left hand is clean don't use it to eat or drink else you're depriving yourself of the food's barakah which is the real benefit of eating.

Avoid people's shades, relaxation and meeting places.

Do not face the Qiblah or back it. Rather turn easy or west.

Left handed people should train themselves to eat, drink, give and take with their right. It's worth the effort considering the blessing of the right hand and the reward of obedience to Allaah.

It isn't Haram to write with your left or do other activities with it. In fact, some historians say that the second Islamic Caliph, Umar Allaah be pleased with him, wrote with his left hand.
