PRESS RELEASE

SUSTAINED AIR OFFENSIVE AGAINST TERRORISTS’ HIDEOUTS IN NORTHERN BORNO YIELDS FURTHER RESULTS AS NAF DESTROYS STRUCTURES, LOGISTICS FACILITIES AT TUMBUN KAIYOWA

1. The sustained air offensive against remnants of Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on the fringes of Lake Chad has yielded additional results as the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, today, 5 June 2019, destroyed terrorists’ structures and logistics facilities at Tumbun Kaiyowa in Northern Borno State. The operation was executed following confirmation by a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform that some terrorists were harboured, along with their logistics items and facilities, in some structures well-camouflaged under dense vegetation within the location. Accordingly, the ATF scrambled 2 Alpha Jet aircraft to attack the location, recording direct hits on the structures and logistics facilities, which were seen engulfed in flames. Several ISWAP fighters were equally neutralized as a result of the strikes.

2. The NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, will sustain the effort to completely degrade the terrorists in the Northeast.

3. You are please requested to disseminate this information through your medium for the awareness of the general public. It would also be highly appreciated if the attached short video clip, which is now declassified, is shown to the general public for them to witness part of the attack. Thank you for your usual support and cooperation.

I'm afraid Cameroon was not involved in that operation in any way. It was Nigeria, T'Chad and Niger. The MRAPs were Nigérian , Artillery was D-30 2A18 122mm Nigerian howitzers, ground troops Nigerian also and the Mi-8 helicopter T'chadian.

Malkanory is in the T'Chad-Niger-Nigeria sector of the lake T'Chad hence the involvement of the national forces. The latest Nigerian-led MNJTF strategy on operation Yancin Tafki against ISWAP focuses heavily on cooperation.

You can clearly see the MRAP with a Niger flag and the helicopter with a T'chadian TT- serial number.

Who here thinks our airforce strike packages for bht, should be increased from 2 aircrafts to 4 aircrafts, most videos i see, seem to not be effective, the bht are well dispersed, and 250kg bombs, don't really have large warheads, i have been observing that the airstrikes don't even hurt 10 percent of the site , been attacked.....i would say 2 birds, carrying only bomb packages, the 3rd bird carrying both a bomb and rocket packages to deal better with dispersed and running terrorists, and the 4th bird carrying only rocket package......in the Liberian and Sierra Leone wars, our birds carried bombs with proximity fuse which makes the bomb explode a few feet above the ground, which are much effective than the bombs I'm seeing we using against Bht....
Why can't we attach also an MI-35 Helli to clear off the insurgents running in different directions after the bomb package? We allow these guys to runaway and come back later to seize one or two military base. Sincerely the government needs to improve on its war strategy. We are losing too many Soldiers unnecessarily. We need to start killing these AOGs and not dispersing them.

Till Date Local Governments in Borno North like Kukawa, Marte, Gudzamala, Abadam even Baga has Bokoharam moving freely during the day.

Even Central towns not too far from Maiduguri like Kukareta, Benisheikh, Mainok, Molai still has BH Dudes still moving freely on Motorcycles na.

Though obsolete, they still have some fight in them. They were even used in COIN operations against insurgent groups as recently as 2013.

They also come in handy as trainers.
Still Good for COIN against a less sophisticated enemy yes!! but with only Day time capability attacks can become easy to predict.

U.S. Army Africa (USARAF) provides Counter Improvised Explosive Device Training (CIED) to students at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering (NASME) located in Makurdi, Benue State. This year, USARAF has provided approximately $265,000 worth of training and operational aid in the way of equipment to the school. A significant portion of the equipment is being furnished to the soldiers upon graduation to support their CIED mission in Nigeria’s northeast.

Bro, how many military bases and FOB's have been overrun? Is that real, or just a figment of my imagination.

BHTS are openly advertising our captured "equipments " online.

NAF claims to be pounding them, but in reality those are pinpricks. How much pounding can you really accomplish with alpha jet light trainers and F-7s ?
If you wan see pounding, study what the Russian Air Force did in Syria with su-34, 30s, 24s and su-25.

Now, most of these jets are already in the orbat of some African countries, so don't say it's out of our reach.

Nigerian soldiers have been crying to anyone that would listen that they are not getting the equipment and logistics they need to fight this war.

All these point to official lack of seriousness. Instead of oversight and support, Abuja for years couldn't care less about these issues. So who will mind our stead, if the elected watchmen are out to sea.?

That's why now everyone is lamenting about insecurity as if it started today. The dark clouds have been gathering for decades, but most of us chose the ostrich strategy.

So you would rather discuss my mental health than address these issues .

It has been said that small minds discuss people, large minds discuss ideas. Let's maintain the right focus on ideas.

I am not talking about this picture. There are several pictures and reports of Cameroonian forces with their IFVs and mraps patrolling with our troops in Sambisa forest and in other joint patrols.

My point is that our troops have been put in the humiliating position of having to wait for Cameroonian armor to come from 60 miles away in order to conduct their patrols safely.
Ten years or so into this war, why are our neighbors still better equipped than us in this battle space?

Brother Nigeria is not fighting a conventional war, those Russian toy you mentioned is practical useless in the war against an enemy that have no defined lines or territory. The war in Syria is totally different from the one we are facing at home. Assymetric warfare is one that have to be meticulously planned with bundles of intelligence if not collateral damages will hit the roof top.
The US in its war against the Talibans, Alqeada and other allied terrorist organisations didn't use F16s, F35 Lightning, the raptors, and other high performance aircraft rather drones, the A-10s, Tucanos, Helicopters etc where used to successfully carryout missions.
You can use a hammer to kill ants but using a bunch of broom will be more effective.

That was when the Talibans where still in power na, initially it was conventional confrontations just like the invasion of Iraq.

Intelligence is key of in assymetric warfare, but sophisticated platforms are also needed to deliver the sort of firepower needed to rout the enemy.

We are talking about how our alpha jets and F7s cannot properly dispose these terrorists whenever they gather,we need better platforms. Every country also needs deterrence, and that is where those toys come to play.

You're confusing yourself. Just because Nigeria can not afford better jets in fighting boko haram, you keep finding an excuse of countries not using better jet in attacking terrorists. On April 30 2019 when the US Air force used the F35 against Isis, the Isis terrorist must be ruling mountains and forest when two US air force F35 bombed their tunnel network, weapons cache and some Isis personnel deep in the Hamrin mountains. The Taliban's were not in power when the marine corps bombed the hell out of them with F35 in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The IAF used mirage 2000 against terrorist in Pakistan. F15 and F16 have been used in bombing terrorist by the USA and Israel.
