Cristiano Ronaldo was in usual buoyant mood after helping Portugal lift the inaugural UEFA Nations League on Sunday.

The Juventus forward is still going strong at the age of 34 and has been widely praised for the consistency he has shown throughout his career.

"There hasn't been a period where I've played badly, the numbers speak for themselves over the last 16 years," he said.

"I've shown for the majority of my career, independently of what people say, the numbers speak for themselves."

Ronaldo has now won two international trophies with his country after leading Portugal to victory at Euro 2016 as well.

"It all helps, collective and individual trophies, but I'm not obsessed by trophies," he said.

"Obviously I like them, I'm not going to lie."

While Lionel Messi leads the way in this year's race for the Ballon d'Or, this latest piece of silverware could push Ronaldo into contention.

"I've won three trophies, I've played well, what more could I do?" he said.

"Do I deserve it? I don't know, I'm going to leave that with you. You are the ones that have to judge, I'm not going to assess myself."

Lolzzz.. Dis guy never ceases to amaze me... He won a UEFA nations league afta playing jus 2 matches while d same league started since last year. If he's talking of trophies den it also means Bernardo Silva also deserves it more considering he won d premier league, Won d UEFA Nations league, Won d FA cup, won d Carling Cup and even won d best player of d Nations league.. Messi and Van Dijk deserve it far more than he does becos dey had far more impressive individual seasons. Even in d Seria A Quagliarella at 36 had a far more impressive season than CR7 with his club Sampdoria who were almost struggling with relegation. Piatek playing in a top league for d first time in his career finished ahead of him in d scorers chart with a struggling AC milan. It's time he realises football isn't about him alone.. His reaction to Bernardo Silva's MVP win is really irritating..

The fact still remains that Ronaldo has played in different leagues with different trophy makes him stay ahead of Messi, although Messi is a great player but if he leaves Barcelona, then I will take him serious,Messi performance with Argentina teams has shown that he Cannot perform very well with another team apart from Barcelona, it's just like someone that was named a king of one kingdom because he knows how to defeats everyone in that kingdom but inside himself,he's scared of going out of that kingdom for the fear of being defeat..
