I feel there's a strong conspiracy here as this case is almost similar to the celebrated sex-for-grade scandal that rocked my alma mata (Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma) 9yrs ago involving Engr. Otubu of Electrical Electronic department and one female student which the latter connived with her sister and some accomplice to accuse the lecturer and detain him unlawfully. The sisters were jailed for false accusations.

Though there are some randy he-goats parading themselves as lecturers but I will love to see the call log of conversation between the EKSU lecturer and the student.

But again, I will blame the lecturer to have gone to the room of the studen... He is now suffering for the sin of immorality which resulted in this show of shame, humiliation and torture which will leave his career ruin.

Such professionals have a high level of authority over their patients, students, people in their care, etc. So that they can overwhelmingly exert power and pressurise them into sex against their will.
Surely every lecturer should be aware of it.

If you lecture in Ado-Ekiti university and date a girl at say FUTA without any chance of giving marks for sex or failing her, then no problem.

Those who videoed and blackmailed him are just behaving like typical 9ja youth: no knowledge of the law, just power and gra-gra. Including the youth in politics like mace-snatchers and legislative speaker coup plotters in state houses of assembly in Nigeria.

I learnt that the bolded text was too strict and wicked hence the blackmail (if true because I doubt that). The case of a lecturer at Delsu is fresh in my memory

i really don't know why people get sentimental over certain issues. There are several things to note and prove here. First this is an act by TWO ADULTS. That the lecturer wanted to have sex with an adult female is not a crime before the law, not like he forced or raped her. Unless she can prove with hard evidence, not just by unnecessary media hyping without any evidence, that he solicited sex for marks. The fact that he wanted to have sex with her doesn't necessarily mean he requested it for marks (even though, subjectively, we all know thats probably what happened. But again, the law will demand evidence, not hearsay). She is an adult and can say no if she isn't comfortable with his advances. What if he wanted to make her his third or fourth wife etc. The law doesn't condemn this. The only problem the man will have is how to explain to his wife and children what he was doing in the house of a student. Second, these guys beating up the lecturer is like taking the law into their hands. Even if the lecturer is punished for this (which will most likely not be the case if hard evidence is not available), the students that beat him up are also liable for expulsion/punishment for taking the law into their hands, rather than quietly recording and then submitting their evidence to the law and waiting for justice to be meted out on him. That alone gives the lecturer an edge over the students. As much as it might sound bitter, but thats the fact. They recording the lecturer soliciting for sex IS NOT AN EVIDENCE that he was soliciting for sex for marks. He might have been doing it for other reasons. The students should pray hard that they have concrete evidence of the man soliciting for sex FOR MARKS. I am not encouraging such acts but i am only being realistic. i won't be surprised if the lecturer gets away with this and the students are punished, or both parties are punished. But fact is, the students involved in beating up the lecturer would be punished. Many at times people do things without understanding how technical the law is.

As a lecturer, it is highly unethical and almost illegal to have an affair with a student YOU WILL BE GRADING.

No one is saying lecturers can’t have affairs with students within the legal age (16 and above) but that person must not be your student or the student of anyone in your department.

Oga, there is nothing to judge here. You should not be having affairs with your students. It is unacceptable anywhere in the world. It is breach of trust in the first instance, simple. Even if it is consensual one of either party must leave his or her position.

A policeman cannot be having an affair with a suspect under investigation. A judge cannot be having an affair with a jury member. A panelist cannot be having an affair with an applicant and on and on. As long as scrutiny, assessment is involved the interrogator cannot be consideted to be dispassionate and fair.

A lecturer is not only imparting knowledge but assessing competence. He is the key to determining if the minimum standards have been attained by his students. He cannot do this dispassionately if involved with the party. Society has determined that.
