The Ikwerres have on several occasions said they are not Igbos except people like Amaechi during a political campaign, let the people decide where they belong and not you deciding for them

The 1966 coup was led by Kaduna Nzeogwu from present Delta state but had mostly Igbos as the executors; political, traditional and military leaders in other regions were eliminated but none in the Eastern region. What does that tell you or can you tell us of any Igbo politician, traditional or military leader who was killed in the coup?
Don't think you can revise our modern history to suit you
you don't know what you are talking, why excempting amechi, is he not ikwerre? go and ask well, every word in the so called ikweere is igbo

Do you want them to start hating you people before you realised they aren't igbos?

Nobody is claiming anybody. You are the one poke nosing into matters that isn't your business. How is Ikwerre/Igbo issue your business? Go and concern yourself with your Yoruba tribe and your brothers in the North Central. Nobody invited you into Igbo affairs.

This is a common mistake you people continue to make.

1) Nobody denatured anybody's language. All over the world there are examples of similar languages spoken by related or unrelated ethnic groups.

2) What if it's the Igbos that borrowed the language from Ekpeye through Ikweres to Etche and finally to Igbos?

3) No ethnic group have a copyright over any name or language.

An English man or a Frenchman may bear Frank, Henry, Louis.

Hebrew , Aramaic and Arabic languages have so many similar words but none can claim to be a denatured of the other.

Ilah= Elai= Alaha= God
Ben= Bin= Son e.g Ben Yusuf/Bin Yusuf

Today, Igala and Yoruba languages are very similar but they are different ethnic groups.

Isoko and Urhobo languages are partially mutually intelligible.

Efik &Ibibio are partially mutually intelligible.

Yoruba and Itshekiri languages are partially mutually intelligible.

pazienza:

What they speak is an adulterated Igbo. They claim to have come from Bini, and we know Bini people don't speak Igbo language.
So basically, what you call Ikwerre language is a denatured form of Igbo language.
You cant denture someone language and call it yours without acknowledging the original owner.
Even the word "Ikwerre" is Igbo, meaning "Have you agreed", even their alternative name "Iwhuruoha" is a denatured Igbo "Ihuoha", meaning "the face of the people (Oha)".
If you borrowed alot from a people who never colonized you, including borrowing the name of your ethnic group from their language. Then you owe them alot and should show more respect to them.

I had repeatedly advised Ikwerre people to revert back to the Bini language of their ancestors, and Bini names as well and stop this whole confusion.

They are not Igbos yet they have no language of there own, they speak Igbo and bear Igbo names.
They are not igbos yet they are members of Ohanaeze ndi Igbo.
They are not Igbos yet Amaechi and Tonto Dikeh in recent videos has said otherwise.
Oshogbo should be your concern and not the old Eastern region please.

You seem to have missed the gist.

Ikwerre, Ekpeye and their likes claim to be Bini descendants.
Naturally, their original language should be Bini language.

Common sense dictates that the current language they speak is a borrowed one from Igbo, they couldn't have gotten it from thin air, or evolved it independently, when it's obviously Igbo.

This should be simple enough. I don't get why you are writing the above epistle.

Igbos couldn't have borrowed Igbo language from a people whose ancestors were Bini speakers and arrived to our borders speaking Bini language as they claimed.

In Ibani(Bonny), the people speak Igbo, but they now claim to have descended from Ijaw, so the people are doing the needful by relearning Ijaw language, instead of claiming that the mutilated Igbo they speak is theirs, they are changing their names to Ijaw ones as well.

Ikwerre and other Bini bandwagoners in SS who speak Igboid languages but claim Bini descent should go relearn Bini language and change to Bini names. What's the big deal. They should do this and save us all from the drama.

Ikwerre this. Ikwerre that.

Does Ikwerre history trace them to Benin kingdom? Yes

Does another Ikwerre history trace them to Etche? Yes

Are there some who claim Aro connection? Yes.

Bottom line is, Ikwerreland is large with different clans having its own history and dialect almost exclusive to it.

Any careful observer will note that communities close to the border with Imo state usually speak a variant of Ikwerre that is quite intelligible with Igbo. Even their names are usually very close to those of central Igboland. Heading south into Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt, you get a divergence. Then it becomes almost impractical for any Igbo to understand the dialects spoken in large parts of Emohua LGA.

Basically what i'm inferring is that Ikwerre language cannot be said to be Igbo-based as we do not have a single spoken language and Igbo's can only attempt to understand the ones spoken at the border communities. So the issue of cultural exchange arising from communal interactions is what has laid claim to this. Yet even if all Ikwerres spoke a single dialect, while you might refer to this language as denatured Igbo, it is in effect a whole new language altogether. Just as Afrikaans sprang off from dutch. And in today's world, they exist side by side.

What Igbos have failed to do is appreciate the unique difference between the two languages and take them for what they now are. No need to continue being stuck in such unproductive assertion that someone is sharing the others possession. Not at all.

Considering the amount of bile you have shown on your comments towards the igbos, you must be a yoruba Moo.slm and I can only pity the Christns that keep you as a relative.

Most of us are here to distort your concoctions to capture the few gullibles.

99% of your posts against the igbo's prove that you're pushing a false narrative that they're hateful. Let me remind you that igbos have always voted for individuals across regions of Nigeria. You yorubas champion the fight against igbo presidency cos of hate/fear that they may take away your feeding bottle.

Despite going through a civil war, igbos have shown spirit of oneness by investing in every part of Nigeria. You trabalistic yorubas will never do that.

Yoruba's will never attend an igbo own church but they own mega church's across nig. And Where do they site their headquarters/universities? Only in yoruba land to employ majority of their ppl.

To solve the gridlock in apapa and other ports in Lagos is simply to open other ports in calabar, portharcourt &warri, but yorubas will never push for this cos you want to take max. Of the revenue generated. Does this really show love No, it shows greed.

Once you see a yoruba man in a work related environment and he noticed you're not his tribes man, his countenance changes and he will never share any tip of if he has one. I can go on n on, but before you call someone ugly you need to see yourself in the mirror.

If igbos not voting for buhari is your only criteria for tagging them hateful, then you have no case.
We know your plan is to sell this lie just like you've sold so many in the past through your media, but those days are gone. Internet is here to stay!

Your epistle doesn't matter to me you this Chinese Buddhist.
I've lived a greater part of my life in Yorubaland to know that Igbos and Yorubas are same, seems the Igbos are getting worse in attitude these days.

My posts about Igbos are facts most of you hate to read, I live here now(Onitsha) and can tell you that the Igbos are becoming more resentful since 2015 after the loss of GEJ.

Nobody forces Igbos to attend Yoruba owned churches so why blaming the Yorubas?
Your hate doesn't scare anyone any longer, it's inbuilt and WE DON'T CARE.

Lol!

Afrikaans don't deny their Dutch ancestry. They are proud of it and despite being miles away from Netherlands, still speak a variant of Dutch. You are comparing Apples and oranges here. You can only use this example, if Ikwerre are using a variant of Bini language, but no longer want to be Bini. So, obviously this is a wrong analogy.
This analogy applies to Epie people of Yenegoa, who speak an Edoid language, and has a proud history of migration from Bini, but has evolved an independent ethnicity of their own, and as such, no longer want to be referred to as Bini.

What Ikwerre speak is a denatured Igbo. It is not a version of Edo or Bini.
The communities in IMO state neighboring Ikwerre speak similar Igbo to Ikwerres because Ikwerre borrowed their Igbo language directly from them.

You are a Bini people who now speak an Igboid language. So obviously, you borrowed the language from Igbos and owe us some respect or at least do the needful by reverting back to Bini language, and stop claiming a language you borrowed and mutilated to create a Frankenstein language you now call Ikwerre.

And by the way. Even the most unintelligible Ikwerre dialect is still Igboid. Just as Ekpeye is mostly unintelligible to average Igbo speaker, but still Igbo based.

Bros most ethnic groups in Southern Nigeria +Kogi/Benue are all related than you think.

If you start from Ile-Ife in the West and move Eastward to Onitsha just accross River Niger, you will notice that the languages keep evolving/metamorphosing untill it finally become Igbo.

Yoruba is at the extreme in the West and Igbo is at the extreme in the East with Bini, Afemai, Igala,Ishan, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Ekpeye, Ikwere, Etche in between.

Ewure(Yoruba)= Ewu (Igbo)
Okunrin (man)= Okoro (Igbo)
Okunrinpupa (Yoruba)= Okorocha (Igbo)= light complexioned man

Okunrindudu (Yoruba)= Okorodudu (Itskeriri/Urhobo).
Enu (Yoruba for mouth)= Onu (Igbo for mouth)
Okuta (Yoruba for Stone)= Okwuta (Ikwere)= Okwute (Igbo for Stone)

Eniyan (Yoruba) = Onye (Igbo)= someone
Ewu (Yoruba)= Awi (Igbo) = grey hairs
Ogberi( Yoruba)= Ogbere(Igbo)= Uninitiated, novice.
Efeefu (Yoruba)= Ifufu (Igbo)=. Wind

Omi ( Yoruba)= Mri (Igbo) = Water
Apoti (Yoruba)= Akpati (Igbo) = stool
Omo (Yoruba)= Omo (Bini)= Oma (Iga)= Oma (Itsekiri)= Omo (Urhobo)= Rumu(Ikwere)= Umu (Igbo)

Igiripa (Yoruba)= Girikpa (Ijaw)= Dimkpa (,Igbo)= Fully grown man

Asee( Yoruba)= Isee (Bini)= Isee (Igbo)= Amen.

Orisha (Yoruba)= Oritse(Itsekiri)= Olise (Ika) =Olisa (Igbo)= Deity.

In conclusion= Yoruba= Bini= Urhobo= Itskiri= Igala= Igbo= ONE PEOPLE in the distant past!
