A mentally disabled woman has been ordered by a British judge, Nathalie Lieven, on Friday to abort her 22-week pregnancy despite objections from the woman and her mother.

The woman who is described to be in her 20s has developmental disabilities and the mental age of a 6- to 9-year-old. She is reported to be under the care of an NHS trust, as part of the country’s National Health Service.

Although the judge admitted in the ruling that it’s an “immense intrusion” to order the abortion against the woman’s will, he argued that it’s in the best interest of the woman, Fox news reported.

Lieven said, “I am acutely conscious of the fact that for the State to order a woman to have a termination where it appears that she doesn’t want it is an immense intrusion.

“I have to operate in [her] best interests, not on society’s views of termination.”

She added that the woman would be unable to care for the child on her own and that she was concerned about the risks posed by the woman’s behavioural and psychological problems.

She said the woman may have to leave home if the baby was placed in the care of the woman’s mother.

The child could also potentially be placed into foster care.

She said she believed the woman would suffer more distress if the baby was taken away, rather than if it was terminated.

Hmm, what a working society! Instead of making the child go through a rough and tough life which could even turn him/her to criminal or problem to the society... So sorry for the baby (killed at 22 weeks) and the lady

I don't support abortion really but I believe if this was done to many boko haram guyz or killer fulani herdsmen, maybe Nigeria Won't be witnessing all these horror movie.

Whoever impregnated the lady should be arrested by the way

Irrespective of her mental state, it is a violation of her right as human to deprive her the right to have children. She has a mother who is also against the abortion and is willing to assist take care of the child.

The judge is concerned that if the child is taken to a foster care, it may further affect the mental state of the mother, but didn't take into consideration the effect it will have on her to terminate a 22 weeks pregnancy, that's like asking the poor girl to kill her own child, can you begin to imagine the trauma?

This is murder.

I wonder how mental challenged women permit me to say mad women on the street of Nigeria take care and protect there kids. Motherhood is a gift and something of nature that comes naturally and emotionally.

So that's the judge's reason to kill the unborn child against the child's mother's and grandmother's will? Because they won't be able to care for the child, they should kill him/her!

I think the judge goofed here. The baby has a right to live and it is not within the capacity of the judge to determine if the baby should die or live. This will only lead to more pressure from NGOs that want to foster the child.

The will of that woman supersedes any opinion of the judge even if she's 1year old.

Please where is the guy that impregnated this lady?
