I prefer the child to be with the mother. maternal love is one of the best things that can happen to any one in this life, am not saying that paternal love is of no importance, but i strongly believe that maternal supercedes it

It should be shared if both parents are mentally and physically fit. If not, then the parent in the best health who has time to cater to the kid should have custody.

The age of the child is a key factor. The courts tends to grant mothers custody except in cases where the father can prove beyond reasonable doubt that their will be exposed to harm staying with the mother. Even when one of the parent has been granted custody, the other parent still have rights to the child.
