123JohnF:A "broken country" that is not "progress and success" with "oil, gold and diamonds" is not a country of "intelligent people". Let me know if I understood incorrectly. |

123JohnF:Again, you put words in my mouth. I said absolutely nothing of the sort.. per bolded text! My message was simple and clear. You asked why Nigerian is the way it is. I said It is simply human nature. I said look back in history at countries that found themselves in similar situations and you will find that they were like Nigeria in many respects. I never presented any opinions on the virtues of what other countries did or what Nigerians are doing today. Hopefully, the vast majority of readers comprehend my opinion even if you don't or refuse to. |

budaatum:I will not to get in any semantics discussion with you. We are different and we have different background, so it's normal you don't understand me. Yet don't take this topic to 1 word "if" or another small word used by me. Show your own knowledge and opinion about Nigeria and Nigerian people, travels and immigration, why abroad, why not at home, etc. Make some valuable statement or show your knowledge, give your ideas. What are you doing know, it's a waste of time and it is useless. |

123JohnF:Honestly, I have been reading your thread and the replies therein, but what you want to pass across doesn't sound coherent(no offense). In Nigeria, English is the official language, if someone tries to understand what you mean semantically, it is because he actually doesn't understand what you are trying to buttress. And since English is also not your first language, I see no reason why you should take offense, should someone try to question your use of it. Even this post I quoted, I am still trying to decode its entire meaning ![]() NB: Nigeria is a country filled with several ethnic groups with different languages, values beliefs. How many ethnic groups do you have in your country? If you want to know why the country is such a mess today, you should have simply asked directly without comparing the country to YOUR western country. |

123JohnF:I am challenging assumptions in what I have read and that is my contribution so far. If you see it as useless and a waste of time, then please stop uselessly wasting your time reading what I write. |

123JohnF:Most Nigerians likely did not go through this sort of education you went through, so if we assume this sort of education of your's contributes towards an intelligent people............ |

123JohnF:Imagine an African continent, not invaded by white colonialist, everyone living happily, hunting animals and feeding each other on farm produce they grow, No slave trade (Arab, European) Imagine all the Gold, Tin, Oi...etc left untapped and Africans living happily in their mud houses. Shallow thinking.... ![]() No offense but why? Why Nigerians want to immigrate to a developed wealthy country where the wealth was built by white peopleYou actually sound like someone who is heartbroken, or bitter because a Nigerian like they say showed you pepper. Go and read your history properly, Nigerians are not the only immigrants who leave mother Africa, other nationalities also migrate into the continent. Do you know how many Asians are living and working in Africa? Do you know how many Americans are living and working in Europe? People immigrate for a different reasons, your argument is very shallow if you think Nigerians immigrate to only wealthy countries And if Nigerians are so intelligent, smart and active, why not making Nigeria great? America had her hard times and still has, melting pot of so many people of all nations and race yet it looks the English system, law, made it work, same Australia, Canada, New Zeland, even South Africa. White people frequently called stupid and mumu by Nigerians and are scammed by Nigerians yet why? Those stupid mumus live better than so many intelligent and smart Nigerians? And what would happen if we have open doors and have Nigerians in politics, business, banking, education system, etc.As I said, you sound bitter. A word of advice, admit that you feel bitter. You've got to know it's there and face it in order to leave it behind. No offense. |

willy2000:As I said, to me YOU sound bitter and YOU don't have an international experience, that's why you take it all wrong. BTW, English is the Official language in Nigeria but unfortunately very few Nigerians speak and write it well. Just reading here how Nigerians struggle to pass IELTS English language test for Canada immigration visas. So don't give me BS about my English skills, I do pass any test with bells and whistles and high score. |

LOL, Africa with no slavery. Tell it to somebody else. Africans invented the slavery much before the white people came, selling their own brothers and sisters, hunting each other, raping and killing. Happy ideal village life? Where did you see it? In your dreams? But in reality, tribes fighting with each other and selling slaves to other tribes, then when white people came, Africans realized they can sell their own brothers and sisters for more money and they did, they were capturing their own people and loading slaves to the boats. |

123JohnF:Your English is very good. Anyone who says otherwise is talking BS. 123JohnF:USA, Canada, Australia were not built on Freedom! They were built on plunder and slavery. And nobody expects them to open door to every Nigerian, we are not that selfish to assume we are the only ones in the whole world. 123JohnF:Why imagine when we can read what happened when Europeans arrived in America, then add historical knowledge gained from owning slaves and guns? American will just shoot corruption, poverty and crime Nigerian muthafuqa or anywhere else, of course! 123JohnF:American wealth was not built by white people! ![]() Go and read some history please! 123JohnF:Yes we can "be a law obedient citizens and contribute to make their own country better, stronger, wealthier and more developed" and we are being "a law obedient citizens and contribute to make their own country better, stronger, wealthier and more developed" every second of every day the best way we currently know how to, which in itself increases by the second. 123JohnF:The proportion of us children under the age of 15 in 2010 was 44.0% and now we approach our decade 2020 when the super intelligent, smart and active us will magaNigeria. Please be patient with our parents. 123JohnF:After all, not so long ago were they called the Wild Wild West and more recently NY was a mafia den. Same with Nigeria. That's why we have our FBI, the EFCC. Not perfect. But getting there. 123JohnF:Well, in all honesty, they truly are stupid and mumu if they can be separated so easily from what they worked hard for though that's no reason for one to be yahoo. 123JohnF:I think you need to travel more to see that Nigerians are already in "politics, business, banking, education system, etc" all over the world. There's nowhere you go we are there already. Maybe listen to MJ and stop with the rotten tomatoing! 123JohnF:We tried not to take offence but then you went and took offence at our just saying as if we didn't say it because we didn't take offence! Anyway. To the first, whites didn't build those systems. And to the second, we want to enjoy what you are enjoying from which we would learn and build it in Nigeria so you should stop hugging it all to yourself as if our blood and sweat did not contribute to its building! |
| Re: No Offense But Why? by JeromeBlack: 6:03pm On Jun 23, 2019 |
123JohnF:That is the white man's version of slavery in Africa. If you are so sure name just 10 out of the 250 Nogerian tribes who engaged in slavery before white men came. Then explain what monetary system they used Then explain how they made chains to hold slaves. Then also explain what they needed slaves for when most tribes never used slaves labour for farming rather, they used families to do it. |

budaatum:Good answers, Sir. It's a pleasure to read though I don't agree with everything. And yes, Nigerians are very young and going forward and it's the most important. Thank you. |

123JohnF:You created a thread crying wolf because Nigerians are migrating, and now I need to have an international experience before I can understand your post. What fallacy! BTW, English is the Official language in Nigeria but unfortunately very few Nigerians speak and write it well. With your poor punctuations. I feel sorry for whatever country you come from. |
| Re: No Offense But Why? by Nobody: 6:17pm On Jun 23, 2019 |
Lol! What tribe are you from? The educated people knows how to keep a constructive dialogue, ignorant people tries to put down the person and to point to the absence of 1 letter destroying any topic. |
| Re: No Offense But Why? by willy2000(m): 6:21pm On Jun 23, 2019 |
123JohnF:Whoever said your English is good, is only rubbing your ego. First, go and learn proper English and stop using Google translate, then we can have an intelligent discourse void of any bias. I am Nigerian, where are you from? You are nothing but a white chauvinist, trolling an African Forum, looking for someone to lick your ego/ass. |
| Re: No Offense But Why? by Nobody: 6:23pm On Jun 23, 2019 |
willy2000:I asked what tribe? Can you read and answer to it? Or your English is not good enough? |
| Re: No Offense But Why? by willy2000(m): 6:27pm On Jun 23, 2019 |
123JohnF:I do not answer Trolls. My tribe has nothing to do with the topic of discourse. If you have nothing of note to say get off my mention. |

| Re: No Offense But Why? by Nobody: 6:29pm On Jun 23, 2019 |
willy2000:Don't answer, because your answers are nothing but personal attacks. I didn't invite you to my topic. Go and attack somebody else because it won't work on me. |
| Re: No Offense But Why? by willy2000(m): 6:43pm On Jun 23, 2019 |
123JohnF:You know what, I will call you out for who you are. You joined Nairaland on April 1, 2019, created your first topic ( Tourism and Immigration: The devil knows the difference). The thread itself is filled with trash, no one answered you because they saw the trolling messages in your post. You have been mainly active in the travel section; which in itself is not bad, but all your comments connotate negativity and bitterness. You now went ahead, just so your ego/ass can be licked; created this thread with hidden intentions. But smart people here will read between the lines. Nigeria is corrupt, YES. Nigeria is poor, YES. Nigeria is filled with fraud, YES. Nigeria is dirty, YES Nigerians are immigrating, YES We all know this, what is the essence of this thread if you want to debate already known issues without proffering solutions. I am just saying things the way they are, if you take offense, go boil stone. |

willy2000:So I can tell you that in contemporary American English, “the answer to this question” is proper and common usage. And that “the answer of this question” is perfectly understandable (and could be logical), but sounds awkward and unusual. I suspect that British English etc would be the same but defer to others on that. https://www.quora.com/Which-is-correct-The-answer-to-this-question-or-The-answer-of-this-question |

willy2000:The answer to the question. The answer for the question. The answer of the question. Which is grammatical? What are the differences? And what is the preferred usage? The answer to the question is the normal grammatical form. https://english.stackexchange.com/questions/77297/answer-to-the-question-vs-answer-for-the-question-vs-answer-of-the-questi |

123JohnF:Good to see that you are learning, but your English is still way off from perfection. Let us start with this quote 123JohnF: Not true. The French Revolution started the changes inside of Europe and rebuilding the European countries. Colonies were some for England, some for Spain mostly yet the more organized countries are west and north Europe and they never were feeding themselves from colonies, Spain went down because of easy gold and money, English people got many colonies but not Germany, Denmark Sweden, Finland and Austria, Switzerland and Poland, etc. All those countries were poor yet building by themselves the wealth. On the north of Europe the climate is hard, [/b]not too much growing food yet the Europeans from the North are saying, we can grow food even sitting on the cold stones, not too many resources or food but the best is our people.I do not usually do this, but I have to. The bolded need correction. |
| Re: No Offense But Why? by Dialectics: 8:13pm On Jun 23, 2019 |
This thread is going nowhere fast, just the way I suspect it was designed to be. However, I will attempt to make bricks without straw and elevate the discourse. We all know what Nigeria is today. Nothing gained by continuously reharshing the problems. The big question is why does the situation continue to deteriorate despite efforts to make it better and what are some solutions to rectify? First, there are entrenched forces that are actively working to keep the status quo because they are benefiting from the way things are. Electricity supply is epileptic not only because the systems and processes are inefficient, but in addition there are forces actively sabotaging government efforts because billions are being made from the situation. Second, there is the born to rule mentality of a certain section of the country despite facts pointing to their inability to do anything to better the situation and even worse, they are actively shielding saboteurs in the system. I think 2 easy solutions can get Nigeria back on track. The biggest obstacle to getting competent leadership at the helm of the federal government is our democracy. We have foolishly adopted a majority vote wins democratic system. America figured out that this does not work and will always end up in majority tyranny. A pure democracy is akin to two wolves and a sheep voting to determine what's for dinner. You can easily predict what will always happen. Nigeria needs to adopt an electoral college system that makes sure that whoever wins needs to capture significant college votes from every state in the country as opposed to what happens now with two sections getting together to marginalize others. In addition to this, we really need a social safety net that guarantees food and a roof over the heads of the jobless, poor and destitute. This will reduce the pressure on citizens to get involved in crime and perhaps even spur entrepreneurship when failure does not mean almost certain destitution. One more thing though. Only in Nigeria can a Peter Obi be a running mate to an Atiku and Osinbajo to a Buhari. Why is the running mate light years more competent than the principal. Even worse, who the hell voted for these tickets when we also had these people on the ballot: Kingsley Moghalu, Omoyele Sowore, Oby Ezekwesili, Donald Duke, Fela Durotote etc? Don't tell me we all don't know that any of these people will do a much better job than those two tickets? I tire for y'all. We are our own problem [/right] |
| Re: No Offense But Why? by Nobody: 9:35pm On Jun 23, 2019 |
Africans don't know the true meaning of leadership, we should be grateful to our colonial masters for the meagre feasts we have today. They really open our eyes to civilization albeit in a cruel way. ( but to me the good outweighs the bad forget slavery, stealing of our resources) Just imagine what African would've look like today without colonization ; hunting for food, living without internet... Stone age lifestyles in summary. Nigeria in particular is doomed, A country that can't boost of good roads, 24hours power supply, adequate health care, quality education. we are still struggling to make pencil in 21st century. PENCILS hahaha Nigeria needs visionary leaders like ME (Yes) but unfortunately Deutschland is calling me. |
