Not true. The French Revolution started the changes inside of Europe and rebuilding the European countries. Colonies were some for England, some for Spain mostly yet the more organized countries are west and north Europe and they never were feeding themselves from colonies, Spain went down because of easy gold and money, English people got many colonies but not Germany, Denmark Sweden, Finland and Austria, Switzerland and Poland, etc. All those countries were poor yet building by themselves the wealth. On the north of Europe the climate is hard, not too much growing food yet the Europeans from the North are saying, we can grow food even sitting on the cold stones, not too many resources or food but the best is our people.

Another example is Japan, they don't have any resources yet it's a hard working people are more than gold, diamonds and oil, people makes countries big and wealthy. Talking about colonies wealth, it's just few countries did benefit of that. Most countries, you are right, were very poor and have a hard climate, no resources, cold winter, poor and deceases and yet became clean and developed. If Nigeria was colonized by Britain, [b]it doesn't mean Nigerians should invade Finland or Sweden or put a guilt about slavery on those countries who have nothing to do with Africa.

Now you are saying Nigerians have the right to invade other countries? It's what I am asking, why not starting to work hard for to make Nigeria great? I was born and raised in the North of Europe, in one of the clean and well organized countries, 4 seasons, snow and mud and rains. Kids, we were eating in summer an ice cream walking on the street and no ice cream paper to throw to the floor, looking for a garbage can or carrying the paper home to the garbage, stealing, some small kids steal a toy from a friend, we were punished and sent by our parents to apologize in front of our friends and to give the toy back. Crossing the street only in designated areas, if you cross it in the middle, the police fine you or your parents, etc., etc. Education, shame and punishment works on kids and adults. Our country is very clean even in Fall and Spring with all the mud, families clean parks, public places and the streets are washed with washing trucks. Growing up as a kid, you follow what your parents and neighbors do. Until now I still stop in front of the crosswalk and wait for the green light for pedestrians, not crossing even if there no cars, same about ice cream or any receipt paper, I need to clean my pockets at home.

America had her hard times and still has, melting pot of so many people of all nations and race yet it looks the English system, law, made it work, same Australia, Canada, New Zeland, even South Africa. White people frequently called stupid and mumu by Nigerians and are scammed by Nigerians yet why? Those stupid mumus live better than so many intelligent and smart Nigerians? And what would happen if we have open doors and have Nigerians in politics, business, banking, education system, etc.

No offense but why Nigerians want to come to where the white people built the safe system? Why Nigerians being so smart and intelligent don't build better and bigger country Nigeria?

Go and read your history properly, Nigerians are not the only immigrants who leave mother Africa, other nationalities also emmigrate into the continent. Do you know how many Asians are living and working in Africa? Do you know how many Americans are living and working in Europe?

So I can tell you that in contemporary American English, “the answer to this question” is proper and common usage. And that “the answer of this question” is perfectly understandable (and could be logical), but sounds awkward and unusual. I suspect that British English etc would be the same but defer to others on that.
