INVESTIGATIVE OPINIONS

Apparently this is either a double homicide or a murder , my opinions as a investigative writer is ;

WEAPON
Its mentioned a knife was found in one of the victim's body and as this should be considered the primary murder weapon until forensics prove otherwise .
A murder often committed with a weapon such as a knife is usually considered a crime of passion ( stab wounds should be counted a high number of stabs would prove my opinion
the weapon also indicates a clue to as the supposed killer's identity as someone who may know them and even more was in the house at that time and also the weapon indicates this might be domestic violence turned murder ,my opinions the knife set in the kitchen should be checked ,if it can be collaborated that the said knife is one of the kitchen's utensils that makes my opinion more certain.

VICTIMS

From the information provided the man lives alone as much as I would want to point a finger at the wife who would be the primary murder suspect there are going to be a lot of P.I's (person's of interest) to the case including those living around .
Struggle marks or as they calk it defensive markings should be taken note of on the victims body to support a sign if struggle ,its a knife surely there are going to defensive injuries on one of them as they try to avoid their demise and it will be on either or both victims ,absence of this will raise questions on the conscious state of the victims when they met their untimely end.
stab wounds on both victims should be counted usually murderers of such crime tend to concentrate more bodily harm to those who they are angry at the most.
most cases even the murderer may have injuries resulting from the struggle ,blood swabs should be taken of the he knife and forensics ran to ascertain the owners of the blood

SCENE
The female victim is said to be lying on the knife meaning she may have taken the knife in her abdomen hardly that's a position for anyone who has a. knife in her stomach but then again information could have make my assumptions on the case clearer , phone calls , messages , witnesses statement can collaborate and build a time line for the murders , the scene should be swept clean of evidence in a modern world ,finger prints would be littered all around the scene , blood splatter in certain areas of the living room can create mental pictures for the detective to fully understand what really happened.

Investigators should check for a secondary weapon though , I can't seem to connect how two individuals would be stabbed to death but well the question comes in , are we dealing with a single murderer ?

CONCLUSION

I hope further reports can be published as I hope to dive deeper into the case a bit .

POSSIBLE MOTIVE

absence of valuable properties in the scene could indicate a burglary or robbery related murder ( again the weapon comes to mind which indicates this is highly unlikely )but I highly doubt this is the case , both victims marital relationships should be investigated , jilted lovers or scorned so to say could hold the keys to the case.

CONCLUSION

I hope further reports can be published as I hope to dive deeper into the case a bit .

Good analysis.

But Nigerian Police don't have sense or time to reason like this.
Its either they catch one unfortunate person around a crime scene and start tormenting him to "confess" or the matter is thrown under the carpet

Maybe in your country Nigeria. But in civilized countries, good, professional, investigation do not start with ASSUMPTIONS. It starts with unbiased, thorough, painstaking, scientific collection and examination of evidence and facts.

thanks for your comment but it's highly unlikely in this case, Nigeria investigators/ detectors are actually more professional in the discharging their duties than the average police officer from the information provided the case is been investigated meaning their is the Involvement of the CID , am sure they will able to determine the killer in time though modern advances such as DNA ,finger printing , foot marks printing / cast could really make it easy for them.
Trust in the system every now and then, they will get the real killer or killers.

Of course, they do...

You have zero idea of what you're talking about. Any police investigation that begins with any biased presumption, will not succeed in court. Don't assume that I watch tv shows, I don't, maybe you do. But on this subject, you have no idea what you're talking about.

A presumption does not equate to a bias...
So stop using both as inextricably-linked.

EVERY gun-related homicide (for example) starts with the PRESUMPTION that the person was shot/shot himself...
Nonetheless, a presumption is NOT a conclusion, and thus suspects/scenarios are raised/eliminated as the investigation proceeds.

BTW, investigations are not undertaken working backwards...
And thus detectives are not necessarily concerned about what will (or not) “succeed in court” at the outset. That’s for TV shows. cheesy

And just for the avoidance of any doubt...
In any homicide at home without sign of forced entry, those persons closest to the victim are the first suspects (until eliminated).

Those persons at home are first, 'Person's of Interest', until any evidence points at them, then they become 'Suspects'. Again, you don't know what you speak of. I don't have anymore time to explain this to you.

Semantic sophistry... grin
Why would they be classified as "persons of interest" if no rebuttable presumptions are being made?
