We don’t need to wait for electric cars to stop fuel subsidy...
PMS subsidy in Nigeria is an elite rent-seeking scam that should have been ended eons ago!

Why didn't he say that when he was a law maker.... Nigerian law Makers behave like they are ordinary citizens. you hear them making statements like "the government should do", " the government should understand that"

Individuals clamouring for fuel subsidy removal do not reside in Nigeria. Nigeria cannot remove subsidies without jobs creating industries and self sustaining agriculture to back it up.

Its that simple. Sanusi is merely grandstanding, groping for opposition arguments to make himself relevent.

Economy is not a switchboard where you can abruptly switch certain services off. Nigeria needs the third factor to be duely considered first and foremost, and that is development.

Nigerians are not Cameroonians or Nigeriens. A natiion of almost 200 million should be approached delicately. The gov can start with pilot testing subsidy removal in highbrow areas.

A thousand people have said this exact same thing but the few hundreds of people enjoying it will have their way over 200 million Nigerians.

Shame

"There is nothing like fuel subsidy" - Muhammadu Buhari (2014)

"Fuel subsidy is the biggest fraud by PDP led federal government" - APC

One thing is clear and I commend Jonathan for this. If Buhari was not elected President in 2015, Nigerians would still be thinking that their "messiah" Buhari would have turned Nigeria into an Eldorado Republic.

Nigeria as a country has always prefer consumption to production. That is why I think we as a country that has raw materials such as crude oil, would prefer to export it overseas then import the finished products back to the country. I am proud to be a Nigerian but what a shame to our government who can not sincerely maintain and invest in building more refineries for a commodity that gives the country more than 90% of her revenve.

fools. before you remove subsidy, there should be palliatives to cushion the effect it will have on the common man.
but what do I know?

Ben talks without analyzing matters but anxious to tweet at all cost

What infrastructure and know-how does make electric cars fit into our system presently.

Its just a mirage for a Nigeria to be talking about electric cars in 2019. Not even in 2025.

Am certain he did not consider all factors before mentioning "Electric"

As for subsidy, he shot blank! He should be advocating for sincere refurbishment and tuning of our refineries as subsidy removal will put a heavy burden on the middle and low class citizens.

Sanusi served under Jonathan government and I remember vividly that he was one of the people or part of the team that led the conversation on removal of subsidy then, wide consultation and public enlightenment were carried out but some people out of hatred organized nation-wide protest against Jonathan and fought against the removal of subsidy. But what baffled me was that Buhari who referred to subsidy as a fraud when he was not in government and the same people that fought against its removal during Jonathan threw their weight behind the subsidy removal as soon as Buhari government proposed it.They made everyone to believe that subsidy has finally been removed unknowing to many that subsidy is still being paid under secretly adopted term which is called "under-revovery".

Today we have extreme poverty. Yet we currently subsidize $, as CBN keep defending the Naira from devaluation, we subsidise fuel, we subsiduse electricity, we subsidize hajj operations, etc. I wonder what becomes of the masses when we allow free market operations. However, minimum wage of N30k ($87) still being debated by Governors
Well, the just shall live by faith. Nigerians are in for a looong thing.

Buhari said subsidy doesn't exist prior to 2015 election, then he came in and became the president paying the highest subsidy.

Electric car to be used in Nigeria, this guy is a joke.

Even in advance countries like US, Canada, France and more, 1% don't use electric cars.

Shame

The best time to I remove subsidy would have been in 2012 but many Nigerians were blinded by propaganda then. While everyone choose to match on the street of Lagos condemning the then Jonathan government, I was of the only person among my family and friends that supported its removal. Now 7 years the line, removing subsidy is like removing a life line support of majority of nigeria. Let's bankrupt it na
