Sajid Javid , the Home Sec was born in the UK in 1969...well before the 1983 change in the law that ended automatic citizenship for Commonwealth nation immigrants...so he is automatically a citizen.

In my opinion, the fault is from her parents. They should have regularized her stay once she was born there. However, it is possible they also were not thinking of staying permanently in the UK at the time.

In the 1940's...a lot of back people from the Carribean moved to the UK to work. Many thought they were legal...until a few years ago.....when they were told they were not.

Some of them fortunately over the years checked their status, found they were not citizens..and promptly applied for citizenship.

Never assume, always check. Those white people are slippery...but they also do things by the book...

Exactly. Her parents knew it was pretty well known then, I expect that her elder sister was left in the UK when she returned with her parents back to Nigeria with her at 3 1/2yrs old and yet return back to the UK as a teenager. Many parents then even abandoned their kids with other people( including white neighbours)and ran back to the their home countries, hoping that with no real trace of the parents that the state would eventually give citizenship to those kids.


The real matter that has not been addressed is if SHE DID NOT HAVE A UK PASSPORT
1) what document did her parents use to take her out of England as a toddler
2) what document did her parents for her to return back to England as a teenager


Cos to the best of my knowledge you travel in and out with a passport

Why must you enter obodo oyibo? What is there that cannot be built where you are?

as sad as it may be, just because you were born and lived all your life somewhere (undocumented) does not automatically means your are now a national of that country. any foreigner can get a National Insurance number, birth certificate, driving licence, a bank account, go to college, and still not be British.

the law changed 6 months before she was born, she and her family bloody well knew it...

the girl in question is not a serious person. the law did not say she is not eligible to apply. she is her own problem. she should have applied for the passport long ago.

She should just hire "Abby Inspector" to fight her case for her in court. 100% win rate is assured!

She should get a lawyer and fight it. She's done all that's necessary to be a British citizen. Once she leaves she has to apply as Nigerian. Stressful. I doubt she has Naija passport sef.
