NNPC Or A First Generation Bank? by tosindami: 6:47pm On Jun 27, 2019
I'm very confused right now.

I'm presently undergoing training as a graduate trainee in one of the first-generation banks in Nigeria. I resumed not too long ago, and it's gonna span for three months, after which I'd be fully absorbed into the bank as a core staff. The training school is in Lagos, and you dare not seek permission, as it will not be granted. You even risk getting sent off if you arrive the training school 10 minutes late.

Just yesterday, I received an email from NNPC stating that I've been shortlisted for an interview (Graduate Trainee) slated to hold in Abuja next week.

I really don't know what to do, as I risk losing both if I attend the interview with NNPC without an express permission from the bank.

N.B: Both are graduate trainee roles.

I'm mystified right now. I hope to get plausible answers from my ogas here..

If you were sick and were not able to go to the training for 2 days, will they fire you?

That's where the answer is.

I no go advise you to lie on public forum....

Thank you, but the funny thing is, most of my colleagues at the training school were shortlisted, and they intend attending the interview at the risk of losing the present appointment. Furthermore, the facilitators and management of the training school are aware of the NNPC interview. They won't buy the excuse.

I would say you should stick with the first bank job because it is already secured in the bag for u.

A bird in hand they say is worth more 10 in the bush. Nnpc only called u for first stage of interview.

I presume there will be other stages that would follow. And u can't say if u did scale through.

I would only advise u go for nnpc interview if and only if u have a godfather there that can facilitate ur employment.

If not jus remain in the bank.

NNPC is sure a better place to work but your chances of not getting employment with NNPC is very high. If I were you, I would stick with the bank. But if you are so sure of getting the NNPC job, then go with it. Just pray over it. I see this as a very tough decision.

The interview is the last stage. Only those who passed the aptitude test were shortlisted for the interview.

Very tough decision. Although, the entry level salary of the two firms are almost the same.

But NNPC has more future prospects than the bank.

They both have prospects. But working as a staff of NNPC is less stressful than working as a banker.

Your chances of getting the NNPC job is like 3/10. Forget the time wasting formalities.
If you had a real chance with the NNPC job, you wont be here asking random strangers online.
This is Nigeria.... take that to the bank!

What's tha business?

You are a learner..

Tell them your aunty that trained like a mother died suddenly and she is a Muslim.

Or instead call in sick and get a family doctor to give you a note..

Book your return flight...

Lobatan...

Finish...

The interview is just in its first stage, there will be more to come.

Most of you have just been shortlisted after the test you guys wrote. So this is just stage 1 of the interview.

Stick with your bank job, bro. There are no guarantees NNPC will employ you. But if you want to risk it, I wish you all the best.

A bird at hand is worth millions in the bush, attending the NNPC interview is not an assurance to getting a job, if am in your situation, i will stick to the bank since am almost enrolled, its not bad to take a risk also, think of what you actually want and then go for it...Wish you luck my friend
Re: NNPC Or A First Generation Bank? by chrisifeanyi: 8:48pm On Jun 27, 2019
Which Nnpc? In this Nigeria? They've shared the slots. I'm not a pessimist but you can never get the job. Except Aba kyari is your village man. I've lost hope in any government job. The process being undertaken currently is to give the notion that the recruitment is transparent. Scam of a country.

Bros,

As someone in the Oil & Gas industry I will advise you to take your chances with NNPC, even if it means loosing out on the bank.

NNPC is a job that gives you stability and some opportunities to pursue both your career & academic endeavors without impacting your job. For example most serious & ambitious NNPC & CBN staff take advantage of the leave of absence structure to pursue abroad Masters & PhD. There salaries is not stopped while they are away, and NNPC picks your study bills.

For someone like you, whom I strongly believe is smart, even if you don't make the cut at the interview (which I strongly doubt), you are smart enough to get another bank job

You cannot compare bank job to nnpc job. The benefits of an nnpc job far outweigh the best a bank can offer. And nnpc will be unionised to the end. Even your trainers would tell you to go for it.
