A pregnant woman has died in a boat mishap that occured in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state yesterday Saturday June 29th.

According to reports, the boat which was transiting from Badore to Egbin in Ijede Ikorodu, capsized at about 10pm.

Three persons survived the incident, one person which is the pregnant woman died while 16 others have been declared missing.

None of the passengers were putting on a life jacket when the incident happened. The survivors said the boat driver who was not on duty, was returning from where he had gone to repair his boat when he met them and they pleaded with him to take them to Egbin.

Sadly, the boat capsized shortly after takeoff. The boat driver is also among the missing persons. Efforts are being made to find and rescue the mising ones.

This is very touching and emotional. That moment the boat began to sank, I wonder what would be on her mind, also other.

It's just like every man for himself.

Observations.

4. His boat was at the mechanic all day.
5. It was 10pm

With these observations , one should know that there is danger. They were imperilled immediately they pleaded with him.

More reason it is also good to learn how to swim. Some of us cross boat while going to the other side of the beach. We feel comfortable and even take pictures, but if it happens.......


If i knew how to swim and something like this happens( which I wouldn't like), I would use my skills to save someone.

This is why it is necessary for one to acquire swimming skills. You can save yourself and others from drowning. Water only looks and taskes good in a cup, but very vicious in its true form.

His boat was at the mechanic all day and the first passengers to board it were taken to the next beyond. If only it was properly serviced and passengers weren't in a rush, perhaps this tragedy would have been averted. Its really heartbreaking to see one drown, the battle with one's breath underneath strong currents is not a really nice experience.

Swim? Swim the Lagoon?

Even Phelps would not survive it. You are in the middle of nowhere , in the middle of the night with nothing in sight and you want to swim miles with currents pulling you from different sides? Your swimming skills would only help if you were in a country where emergency services works. At least it would keep you alive for some minutes till you are rescued.

I have said it. I would never ever step my feet in a commerical boat in Lagos. We know nothing about safety. I am sure they scrambled rescue services in the morning after it was past anything been salvageable.

How on earth would you be travelling on boat in the night and not even putting on Personal Floatation Device (PFD). They took too much risk, RIP to them.
