A former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Jonathan Asake, said the new move to create Ruga settlements in some parts of the country was an attempt to “Fulanise” the country.

Asake, who was a member of the House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015, said this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday.

He said the term ‘Ruga’ was a Fulani word and it was thus hypocritical of anyone to say it would not be exclusive to Fulani when implemented.

Asake, who is from Southern Kaduna, said in 1987, the Kaduna State Government approved Ruga settlements for the old Kachia Local Government Area, which comprises Zangon Kataf, Chikun, Kajuru and Kachia local government areas today.

However, he said overtime Fulani began to expand these settlements and today, some of them had been converted into emirates.

Asake said, “That grazing reserve has been changed to Laduga. Laduga is actually a Fulani word and no indigene is there. The land has been taken over from the indigenes. And that place is now a big town, with big hospitals and roads.”

Cattle herding is about to become the most lucrative business now. They get land, hospitals, roads, vet clinics, definitely zero taxation and a big juicy budget from the FG. Nice. Meanwhile other forms of business from the traders in Alaba to Onitsha, Bodija, etc I wonder what the govt has in store for them. Remember the cattle herdsmen are getting this as a solution to resolving violent conflicts. So in Nigeria, violence pays. Buhari worshippers, is this the next level you were licking his feet to promote. It's just 30days o. 3yrs 335 days to go.

What is all the noise about really Buhari and his gang are just being dishonest. These herdsmen are private businessmen, why should government acquire lands for them free of charge?

Anyone rearing cattle is doing it for his own pocket it's NOT a national service. People who break laws while doing their private business should be punished as appropriate, not pampered.

It's actually crazy on the part of FG to cater for cow grazing because it's a private business and herdsmen don't generate revenue nor pay tax to Federation account, on what ground are they being pampered for ? Just tell them to acquire land for grazing from their host communities and get the hell out if the host communities say no, that they don't have lands for you . Majority of them will behave normal if there's no Federal backing for them. Is FG paying shop rents for an Ibo man in Lagos , a Yoruba man in Onitcha or an Hausa man in PH ?

I told a friend of mine who always supports everything PMB does & is also an advocate for giving lands to herdsmen that I read that his state governor had agreed to site a Ruga settlement in his town.

My friend immediately flew into a tantrum & started cursing his governor. It was when he started making calls that I told him I was kidding.

When he calmed down, I now asked him why he won't want the Ruga settlements he supports to be sited in his town. He said the herdsmen have wahala & cited the environmental hazards & other challenges...

But this same guy would go online & vehemently defend this same policy that he doesn't want in his home town...

Is that not hypocrisy?

Is that not a wise thing my brother?
The truth is this 'Nigeria is not united'. Famers integrate with farmers with a little drop of oil...... all i know is that we are all been played like draughts!

But why is cow life more important than human life in this regime. If cows have Instagram, they would have been verified cos of many followers. I just dont understand this government at all. Ruga settlement my foot. We need to raise one voice against herdsmen. Those guys are brutal and blood tasty. They have no respect for human life

By appropriating funds to herdsmen, federal government is using public funds, to fund private businesses...why can't Nigerians see the hypocrisy and corruption in this...

Shame on the EX SSA!

He did not state the terms and conditions in which this settlements were established. Were they sold or leased? Was their a designated alloted hectares to them

Sold his soul, body and conscience way back and here today wailing

How will an educated man go into an agreement that suddenly lost track of it. If there was ever an agreement. They sold their souls for a pot of porridge way-back and here today, he is crying foul.

In a sane world where an enlightened and educated man is in the helms of affairs, such can never happen. At worst, we revoke the lease.

Mile 12 market is dominated by Fulanis and they will be relocated to Ikorodu axis soon, did you hear any fuss about that? This shows you men knew what they were doing way-back.

The efforts of His Excellence, President Mohammadu Buhari (GCFR) in bringing a permanent end to farmers/herders conflict and enhance national security can never be deterred and remains unshaken.

This is why u need a strong national assembly but Tinubu and oshomole have given us ass licking national assembly. As it stands, the FG has set aside fund for this venture. It is crazy. I dont understand. They dont pay revenue to the federation acct, it is so crazy. I have never seen this type of project in my life.

This country is upside down.
