Lovechisom55:
The Middle Belt Forum, MBF, said it has unequivocally rejected in totality the proposed establishment of Ruga settlements in the region by the federal government.

The forum noted that the policy seeks to exclusively benefit a particular ethnic group against the rest of Nigerians.
Dr lsuwa Dogo, National Publicity Secretary of MBF said in a statement, “The attention of the Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has been drawn to the planned establishment of Ruga settlements for Fulani herdsmen all over the 36 states of the federation, including the FCT by the President Muhamamdu Buhari-led Federal Government.

“The plan to establish these so-called Ruga settlements was first unveiled by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammadu Umar. In a media interview in Abuja, Umar was quoted to have disclosed that the Ruga Settlement idea was the initiative of the National Economic Council (NEC) that was presented under the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP).”

The forum explained that according to the Permanent Secretary, work is ongoing in 12 pilot states, with six Ruga settlements expected to be established in each of the pilot states.
“The final plan is to ensure that same is replicated in all the 36 states of the Federation, including the FCT. Going by the Permanent Secretary’s disclosure, no less than 222 of such settlements shall be built all over the country when fully completed,” the statement explained.

Accordingly to the forum, “An umbrella body of all socio-cultural groups in Middle Belt Region hereby unequivocally rejects in totality the proposed establishment of Ruga settlements in the Middle Belt, as it is a policy that seeks to exclusively benefit a particular ethnic group against the rest of Nigerians.

“In this line, we hereby declare our total support and solidarity for Governors Samuel Ortom of Benue and Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba state who have developed the rare courage of raising their voices against unfair, unjust and oppressive policies of the Federal Government.
“On the other hand, we wish to denounce in totality the fraudulent and mischievous group that calls itself the Concerned Middle Belt Citizens Forum (CMBCF).

“This group, if it ever exists, has made itself readily available to be procured by detractors of the Middle Belt Region to insult our leaders and oppose any struggle aimed at emancipating the people of the Middle Belt,” the statement explained.
They have been going about their normal lives and returning to their settlements at the end of the day. As a matter of fact, these local Fulani are never homeless for government to tinker with the idea of building exclusive settlements for them.

“From available reports, the Federal Government has not just proposed but has gone ahead to commence the construction of Ruga settlements, mostly in Middle Belt states of Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Taraba, among others. Specifically in Taraba and Benue, the Federal Government has gone ahead to commence construction of these Ruga settlements against the wish of these state governments, amidst widespread protests by the people and in spite of existing laws that prohibit open grazing and provides for ranching.

“Going by the insistence of the Federal Government to forcefully establish these Ruga settlements, it suggests to us that the government is on a mission to settle criminal terrorist herdsmen that are behind the incessant invasions of our communities and displacing our people from their ancestral lands, thereby precipitating grave humanitarian crisis situation in the affected areas.”

“The deplorable conditions of IDPs all over the country are pathetic and quite unfortunate. Any responsible and responsive government would rather focus its energies on ameliorating the suffering of these categories of people and not engage in the vain pursuit of ethnic chauvinistic agenda aimed at enthroning the supremacy of one group over others as an official state policy.”

Too many people are ignorant of Nigerian laws... only a state government can issue a land to any one,... if Federal Government got a land in Benue then hold Ortom responsible, and if he acts dumb, make your state lawmakers threaten him with impeachment.

If you dont know anything about the laws governing you, often times you act wrongly thinking you are acting rightly... Protest should be lead to the Governors offices and State Assemblies or else FG would be unstoppable

www.nigeria-law.org/Land%20Use%20Act.htm

take my state Oyo for instance, Ajimobi sternly refused giving land to FG even after Audu Ogbeh visited to lobby him, and am sure Makinde doesnt have plans for that either.. Ajimobi issued land to Ameachi for Ibadan Dry port and to Fashola for the FG mass housing scheme

Does it mean that this Fulani people don't have a state of their own. Why not build the ruga for them there. Using our money to build ruga for them all over Nigeria is just plain wickedness, it not like we will all benefit from it.

You are the one who is actually ignorant.
The FG has informed Nigerians that the Federal government owns lands in states that are gazetted, the FG can decide to use its own lands in states without the Governors to set up Ruga

They tried to divert our attention with COZA rape accusationsbut failed
We will continue to tell Buhari that Ruga is not welcome because cattle rearing is private business
you are bold with your ignorance... FG through garba shehu said only willing states that provided lands would be used, and no land were gazetted for grazing routes

https://www.msn.com/en-xl/news/other/ruga-settlements-not-for-fulani-alone-says-presidency/ar-AADEsq6

read properly before misinforming yourself

Coza rape is unfortunate but its non of our business as the courts are open, leave FG out of this..

Cattle rearing is a private business so is Nollywood, if Goodluck jonathan can intervene with government intervention fund with nollywood, then Buhari can intervene in the cattle business so far they pay back every penny and open grazing stops with imediate effect

In Nigerian Land laws. ALL LANDS WITHIN THE SOVERIENTY of Nigeria is owned by the Federal Government. However, it says all lands within a state are owned by the state Government and can be issued out. All FG projects built on lands within a state are property of the FG (land inclusive)/

But when a land is of interest to the FG, the FG exercises its power and take ownership

And what law has Buhari ever followed?

They know him, they know he sees the constitution as chemistry ababio while having his henchman as CJN.

I have always known Buhari would unite Nigeria, his evils would unite Nigeria against him, it's just unfortunate he drags a whole tribe along.

#NotoRUGA
Buhari has been an adamant person but people don't know that fact. He is an evil and some tribes patronised his idea not knowing the fact. His evil plans will no come place.

How do governors know the peoples mind if not through all this groups? When many groups rejects a project government knows starting those project will be a chaos.

Those groups knows very the governor have Supreme power to do and undo and by so they are conveying their stands through agitation and open letters to also direct government to know what the masses want.

So oga, are they still ignorant?

Ur totally are right and even if the federal government has lands in any state it shudnt be ment or used for Fulani or herdsmen settlements and especially not without the states consent.

However this doesn’t solve the lingering problem or Herdsmen/farmers crisis which is what the federal government claims to be trying to solve hoping they are genuine and have no ulterior motives behind this. How do we solve this lingering off/on crisis peacefully. I believe there are other ways we can suggest to avoid clashes. If government doesn’t intervene clashes still come every now and then and we blame Buhari or govt again for doing nothing so what is the way forward.

This is what is most important.

i support the ruga settlements and cow ranches sponsored by FG (only in the northern states) however what i support most is North building more dams for irrigation and other purposes.. Global warming is just in its preliminary stage and North is facing challenges, look at Egypt and what they did with Nile, Even UAE, Isreal and Saudi Import soils and build Dams .. this i think is more sustainable

It’s this cost effective and sustainable. If the government starts such huge capital projects in the North it is still we in the south especially ss and Sw that will complain. I think the government I look for a simpler, practical and less capital intensive solution. Is there any? We have lots of natural vegetation that are abandoned and not even used for farming in many states. Is it logical to then spend so much money we don’t hv building an artificial one up in the north?

Is there a better solution or is that the only solution?

Re: Ruga Settlement: Middle Belt Forum Kicks Against Proposed Fulani Settlement by nasoeb: 10:32am On Jul 01, 2019
But honestly, we are our own problem. Nigerians are so good with anything theory. We have collectively identify the common problem to Nigeria's growth, but we will not do anything practical about it but choose to complain. The igbos will see the killings of yorubas as a yoruba problem, and the yoruba will see the killing of benue people as north central problem. But we will NOT see that there is a common killer who is determined to "kill" Nigerians in every region (just turn by turn). We just feel relax because for the time been, it's happening in the other region, but let me burst your bubble, the fulanis are not out to kill yorubas or benues or efik and take their lands, they wish and want to kill ALL OF US, from every region and tribe, reduce our population, enthrone their emirs, then force everyone to accept islam. Fela was so right, Nigerians are always too afraid to die.
Stopping fulani and their agenda is so so so easy and can happen in less than a month if every region sees it as a Nigerian problem.
The fulanis are having their ways because they understand the simple division between us Nigerians. They know killing benues, Ijaws will not come to their rescue,..... killing igbos, the yorubas will not come for their rescues.
Let's ask ourselves some simple important questions,
1. whats the population of the fulanis?
2. How many of this fulanis can be in every states killing at each time including their brotgers from niger and chad etc.
If all the regions (youths probably) can harness and fight eliminate every fulanis in their states/regions, cordinate ourselves with arms go into these forests and kill these guys, see an injury to one state or region as injury to every good Nigerian, fighting and killing them from every corner simultaneously, we would have reduce these fulanis to bearest minimum that they cant pose as threat anymore.
