I don't get this at all. Don't black people have thicker lips and dark skin? As an African I have thicker lips and really dark skin compared to other races and I'm not a monster. Why are African facial features seen as a bad thing? Why do people want black characters to look like white characters who got a tan?

Nothing wrong with our features, they've just had a habit of drawing black people as weird caricatures

it's over hyped Everyone made it seem like it was the next attack on Titan or Naruto but you can't really compare it.

Remember that all anime characters have weird features. Anime is extremely stylized. Eyes are far larger than usual, lips are as thin as a single line, noses are extremely tiny. These features are exaggerated af but nobody says that it's racist against asians or white people, because we actually find it aesthetically pleasing. However, when black people are drawn with wider noses and more pronounced lips, it becomes a problem, and I feel it's because we judge beauty and aesthetics based on western standards.

Remember that Japan doesn't have the same history with black people that America does. Artistic representation in anime will be different for people who look different, even Chinese people look different in anime (see Ling from Fullmetal Alchemist). I don't see why black people shouldn't have African features.

Abeg!! Naruto got awesome after episode 20 and even then you had to twice to get how awesome it was. You watch Kimetsu no Yaiba and after 12 episodes you conclude it's overhyped!! Dude! And it's not overhyped at least in my opinion

Hmm human or not, the character was at the very least inspired by historically negative caricatures of black people, it’s not just a coincidence. Him not being human doesn't change the suspect nature of his physical appearance.

Their depiction of black people is more a case of stereotypes/ignorance compared to America so they don't have the same 'dark' historical context, I get that but it doesn’t make it any more offensive.

Black face sha is still a thing there, so at this point/in this day and age the ignorance argument no longer flies. Things are getting better though I guess
