UnitedAlliance:
And vice versa, Nigerians play with their lives.

Simply don’t board any commercial vessel that doesn’t offer approved life preservers.
And what will they board then?
Personally if I refused to board that boat at 10pm in the night, I might as well go back to my office and sleep there till next day instead of trying to go home
But how many can do this? You wake up with dirty clothes, be everyone laugh at you in shame

any need to put on seat belt while sitting at the back?
There is need for a seat belt wherever you are in a vehicle that is moving.

Take a look what happens to an unbelted rear sitting passenger in the event of a crash

People should start looking for jobs nearer to where they live or in their community. If you have to take a boat from Ikorodu to other parts of Lagos State for work, then your salary must be very good and worth the risks of traveling by water. Otherwise, it is better to start a business in Ikorodu and its environs or get a job in your area. I know good jobs are hard to come by in Nigeria nowadays, but if it means you have to start a venture and grow it in your vicinity to avoid sudden death, please do. Too much sudden deaths in the last four years in Nigeria.

In May 2014, Fashola announced the compulsory use of life jackets on Lagos waterways. Educational campaigns encouraging lifejacket use may not be enough to get all boaters to wear the vests at all times, but making it mandatory does make a difference

we are very good at not obeying any laws.
We know the law is there, but we will not obey it.
Pirating softwares, pirating music, paying workers below minimum wage (Do you know anyone who can take care of his transport, rent and feeding for N18,000? What of N30,000, what of N50,000?) Is it not more of N100,000 that makes actual sense?

We know what is right but keep on doing what is wrong. Then later act surprised when things go bad
Right. The freedom and lawlessness in Nigeria is to a fault.. This unlawfulness makes Naira falls everyday. The minimum wage can not fuel a car for a month. Living with N50,000 per month is below average in a country where there is steady inflation and poor electricity supply. Nigeria is backward, prayers and religion makes us think that we are safe. It's possible that the passengers of the boat prayed and expected God to save them without wearing the cheap life jacket.

Spot on.....My brother....10pm thing is fishy.....this should be investigated.
xolomonstrides:
Before we begin to blame authorities, I use that route once in a while, they close by 6.00pm. I remember one day when I got there by 2mins after 7pm, despite my pleading and offer to pay 3 Times the usual fare, they insisted that they were closed and do not operate after closing hours. Also life jacket if compulsory along that route. No passenger is allowed on boats without a life jacket. So this 10pm trip is fishy and by all indications illegal. Something is definitely not right
