Come across this picture of the award of #100 (hundred naira) to the best graduating student in the department of Civil Engineering, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.

While BB Naija are receiving millions, see what was given to a Scholar.

Funny enough, he was asked to approach the Bursary department to process the award.

Without doubt, our leader do not value education.

Lalasticlala come and see

This is outrageous. Is there any hope for the future of this country? After 5years of sweat, tears and frustration, a best graduating student gets N100 as "reward."

Meanwhile his counterparts on the other side that spend 3 months kissing, wh.oring and engaging in mundane activities on live TV go home with N60m cash prize at the end of the day. This country is doomed.

Surely this is a joke .
Seems when they started this award, the prize for the award was #100. Definitely, it would have started a long time ago when #100 had a much more higher value than what it is today.

But their senses should have informed them that they are meant to review the prize to match the present value.

A very big joke. #100 is even more than the cost of printing that paper.

I think you’re right. They should’ve reviewed that amount.

Nigeria is in a state of glorifying nonsense and belittling hardwork, a person does well academically and the reward is lengthy speeches, notebooks and paltry sum of 100naira, so much for encouraging student smh.

Even at that, how much was N100 worth even in the early 90s assuming the award started then?
Could it buy a shoe

Nothing surprises me anymore in Nigeria. After all our country is run by a 'certificate-less' man while his assistant is a professor of law. Now, imagine a professor of law taking orders, instructions, criticisms, suggestions...from a man who does not have a verifiable WAEC certificate. Doesn't that tell you a lot about the 'value' of education in Nigeria? A country where the chairman of NURTW is revered even by a serving senator! A country where BBA winners walk away with millions of Naira for doing nothing educationally, morally, socially or spiritually impactful. A country where youths with innovative ideas are given very little or no recognitions at all. Ekiti State University should be ashamed of itself. Abeg leave 9ja matter.

though the amount might be small at that time, I don’t think it will be nice to create a space for an unwarranted assumption.

There is no reason for us to assume that the prize started being awarded in the early 90s. It could have been in the mid 80s.

I understand your reserve.

But something about many school prize awards is that they are not offered by the School. They are usually funded by legacies and Trusts from people (dead and living) who have left instructions (usually in the Will) stating that every best student from - and - should be given this prize award, taken from their trust every year - some for 100 years. It’s something most rich people in Africa don’t do anymore - Buh folks in the West, I.e Bill&Bellinda Gates Trust, Warren Buffet Eric - all have Trusts like this running into millions of dollars.

I wish our present Rich folks could do the same! The government and schools can’t do everything!

Again Most of this are paltry because they probably were initiated years even before you and I was born.

As well, this couldn’t have been the only awards offered by that Dept. He might have had up to 6 awards.

PS: I also received #250 for all my efforts in the same institution, so I can actually relate with this. But I had colleagues who had more than 100k prize awards too. Depends on the amount of prizes offered in the department!

After all the hundred of thousands you spent on school fees, all they could give to the best graduating student is a hundred naira worth
That's very bad
