The new generation of Blacks in Canada and US cannot even make or buy the same house as their parents. Over 50% live from pay check to pay cheque. Many of them cannot boost of a thousand dollars in the bank.

Note most of those 50 are 90% of you.

90% live pay check to paycheck and I am one of them and that is because I am a new graduate.

It actually is, like i said, we all need financial discipline to get most things done and take advantage of certain situations, else you miss out. I want to actually believe all of your messages on this thread had been done with good intent, it is your perception which you have a right to, however if you stay pessimistic , you risk a chance of not seeing what opportunities are available to you.

I saw somewhere where you said you have student loans of over $20,000 , if you are still a student , the loans never yield interest till you are out of school, so why not start saving if you have a small job and you can afford to save now. Most student loans have two portions , a part will start accruing interest a month after you are out of school, the other part will start accruing interest 6 months after school. The moment you are out of school pay up within a month that part that may yield interest a month after schooling. You have a chance to get a job courtesy of your newly acquired education, when you get one aim to pay the remainder before the 6 months mark if you miss that, you have as much to 10 yrs to make full payment, pay up as much as possible.
lets discuss the house issue, forget i said i am indebtedness its my personal matter and i aware of the conditions attached to my loans , let analyses things. lets look at the house issue.
Cost analysis monthly
hydro------------------$200
water------------------$300 depending on usage
maintenance...............say 5% of the total cost of the house
property taxes..........i think another 5% of the cost of the house. remember this is a yearly cost.
mortgage -------------$1500
insurance--------------?
the list goes on. i have counted the cost.

Are you for real? Let me tell you something . I am less than 2 yrs old in Canada, and i have less than 17 yrs left on my Mortgage. I started a Mortgage less than a year ago, and i intend to pay up within 5 -7 yrs. You don't pay interest on capital gains when you sell your principal residence. Don't hang around pessimist they are every where telling you it can NOT be done.

You can only pay off your mortgage in 5-7 years if your a doctor or engineer or have a household income of $200k plus assuming you bought a house/condo for 300-400k.

The first million a Nigerian makes, he looks for ways to throw it into foreign countries.

I see Canada as a choice for many of you. The mistake most Africans make is that they think the so called "civilized climes" they hear about apply to them.

No, it does not apply to you, it applies to their privileged class. You are the firewood they use to burn their engines. The same jobs you will never do at home because of your PhD, "MD" or DrSc, you will beg to do it when you are desperate and hungry or go into crimes.

The new generation of Blacks in Canada and US cannot even make or buy the same house as their parents. Over 50% live from pay check to pay cheque. Many of them cannot boost of a thousand dollars in the bank.

Who told you millionaire and billionaires do not have security? Try them u hia?

You think they go on social medias to display "gifted" instead of remaining anonymous?

Until Africans learn how to make use of their God given resources, stop throwing it away to those enslaving you by branding mentally, continue to use your labor to enrich themselves, Africans will continue to cry inside and outside where you are wasted as slaves, body parts and poo lickers.

The first rule is cut your coat according to your size. $2,500 per month will cover all you have listed above. So what is the issue? An Avg person can earn $50,000 after tax in a year.

That is not exactly true. I will peg a household income to 60% of what you said $120k and a house of $300,000 can be paid in less than 7 yrs. There are several ways to take advantage of that. 1. Most mortgage allows you to pay 10%-15% of your principal annually 2. Pay weekly instead of monthly 3. Strive to get a 10% initial deposit 4. Strive to get a good interest rate from your bank

@ OP i would like to ask u some few questions. How old are you ? if you are above 40years i would advice you stay in Nigeria and make your money and enjoy ur self. people in abroad find it hard to gather that money, you have bills to pay, hydro, water, rent, INTERNET bills, car insurance my brother these are all the witches and wizard we have in the abroad. it is taxes taxes upon taxes. I just read some comments and laugh. even those who are successful are heavily taxed like fat cows. if you buy house for abroad if you wan sell after 25 years government of Canada or U.K or USA would collect 50% from the profit you make, i have been in Canada now for two years. my people oyinbo be like devil them collect N100 from you give u N10. my brother my advice if you can maintain and calm down u would be surprised God can give you insight. however if you are young and not married, say you are 30 years then you can consider traveling out. again this is my advice it should not form a generalized opinion. Again experience is a pleasant teacher. smiley
Bro,
Iam planning to continue my education in canada togather my my wife Msc/ Phd, am 33 with 2 kids.
Am coming there on self sponsor, can u pls give my a rough estimate of what our monthly bills will look like? I.e 700USD, 1000USD.

NB: I will appreciate any other advise

I haven't commented in Nairaland in a while but I decided to comment on your post because you sounded honest and my response will be useful for you and many other people reading this.

When planning to relocate, there are several important factors to consider. Some are:

1. Economic Opportunities
2. Social Acceptance/Integration
3. Medical Care/Health Insurance
4. Prospects of securing Permanent residence/Citizenship
5. Opportunities for additional income/side jobs/business

From my personal research, while Canada seems to be a choice destination for many people, it isn't as rosy as it seems. Applying for their permanent residence is a venture worth it, but your chances are lower if you are not married and don't have a postgraduate degree. If you are married and/or have a postgraduate degree, you may give it a shot. The advantages of moving to Canada is that you have a lot of Nigerians and if you connect with the right social circle you will find it easy to integrate. Also, there'll be mo language barrier as English is one of their official languages.

On the other hand, looking at Europe today, Germany is a preferred destination for most people. While the German government has approved a job-seekers visa for people to come to Germany to search for jobs for up to 6 months, I would advise against it because, of the uncertainties (What if you don't get a job?). Also, as a German speaking country, English-only jobs aren't as common as in Canada. Emigrating to Germany is easiest if you apply as a student -Either for Undergraduate or Postgraduate studies.

First, you won't have to spend your capital as schools in Germany are tuition-free. Second, students are allowed to work full-time for up to 6 months or part-time throughout the year. If, for example, you work part-time for 5 months with a company like Daimler, you will earn no less than €10,000. That's already more than 4 million Naira. However, you will have to brush up your German language skills before securing a job with Daimler. Several other companies employ students who don't speak German. But they pay an average of about €11 per hour (Depending on what part of Germany you are in).

And if you are not interested in schooling, you may decide to master the language and get a job with your previous qualifications. But this is quite difficult. By the way, if you are an IT expert, you don't even need to learn German. They'll employ you with English. Several IT experts are being employed directly from Nigeria.

Germany has many job opportunities but they lack professionals so they have been employing several people from outside Germany. In terms of health insurance, Germany has very good and affordable health insurance. There are better opportunities to do business by sending cars and other goods to Nigeria due to its proximity to Nigeria compared with Canada.

Also, with your student residence permit, you can travel to 28 countries and you may find opportunities in other neighbouring countries if you don't like Germany.

Securing permanent residence in Germany takes about 7 years of living and working in Germany. They check your income and your contribution to the social welfare scheme. It's faster in Canada though.

And eventually, if you don't like Germany, it's easier for you to relocate elsewhere from Germany than from Nigeria.

nb: I assumed that you are single and are planning just for yourself (If you're married 4 million naira may not be sufficient).

When people loose their job , they have employment insurance for like a year, and it pays about 70% of their earnings.... I respect your opinion, and judging from your implied age above. I believe you are old enough to make rational decisions. Have a great day sir.

You are all probably doing copy-cat trying to do what others are doing. Nigeria is a Country of 200 million people. Few months ago I met a Nigerian lady in Houston who only came for 2 days for a marriage ceremony. You won't believe the business the family does. They export a particular waste product from butchered cow. She claims they are the number one exporter of this product from Nigeria. Opportunities are endless but most Nigerians are focused on the wrong things.

Yes, we know the country is tough. Ask yourself why Chinese and indians are flooding into Nigeria. You may not have the kind of funds they have but you are a local and should know in and out of your country.
my dear u know all about this yet u left Nigeria to USA, can't we develop our country together? u left to better ur life and that of ur family yet u wish others should remain in Nigeria. Even though u were born in d State wat stops u from coming home to Nigeria

The South Americans trying to get into USA paid more money to kayoti than you. The poor in their countries cannot afford kayoti.

They are like Nigerians fleeing "shittass" country.
You will live in consentration camps, drink toilet water or get bombed in Libya, drown on raft boats and get roasted like suya before your dead body eye go clear in hell.

Which other country do you know or built to put a welcome mat for you? Until you are treated outside for your gread, you will never learn.

Point to one community you or your ancestors have ever built apart from those who loved their
