Prayer? Someone asked how to please God,you said prayer?
Preciousgirl, you cannot earn Goodwill with God by doing any religious activity,infact it's an insult on God trying to be on his good side by engaging in activities so as to I'm press him.
So how did God say we can earn his Goodwill and be in good terms with him always.
" Therefore being justified by faith,we have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ" Room 5:1.
The first thing anyone who wants to walk with God should do is to exercise faith in him. Note,this is not the usual I believe God exist faith,no. It is a conscious and genuine believe that God is who he says he is and he will do anything he says he will do.
This faith in God is exercised by first accepting the atoning death of Jesus Christ as something done on your behalf and for your sins personally.
Everything God does from the creation of the world till now is on the basis of Jesus. Jesus is the only one that can qualify you to receive from God,to be accepted by God,to walk with God and be bless by God.
Anyone who received Jesus,becomes qualify for God's blessings,God see you as an heir to anything he has,just as Jesus is the heir to everything God has.
After you receive Christ salvation by faith,be faithful to God by living your life to glorify him and be an example of Christ.
Anybody prays,all members of the thousands of religions in the world pray,give alms,do good,sing praises to God etc but this thing doesn't qualify anyone to walk with God or be righteous,only faith in Jesus does.
Note all these things are good and a Christian should engage in them,but they are not the first requirement.

The blood of Jesus is enough to justify anyone who believes in Christ's death and resurrection. You can't do anything to be holy or be right with God, only FAITH in Christ's finished work can justify us and make us righteous before God (Romans 5:1) - that's GRACE.
But grace isn't a license to continue sinning, but should propel us to do the work of righteousness through the power of the indwelling Spirit of God.

I'm going say it how it worked for me.

I was a sinner for I lived a life of sin, even though I was a church worker(musician), from a christian family.

I had come out for altar calls severally without truly repenting so nothing truly changed as I still continued with my sinful lifestyle.

But the day I truly repented, I didn't even come out for altar call, but the difference was very clear, for there was a sudden change in my attitude, inclination and mentality.

For instance I used to be a habitual thief, and used to also cheat before hand, without any remorse, but after that I turned to the exact opposite of that, for I suddenly stopped stealing and cheating.

I still had other sinful issues to deal with but it was no longer my lifestyle, but only the exception.

And studying the Bible, praying, fasting, also helped me grow in that new lifestyle of righteousness, and my relationship with God.

And that was the necessary first step, before God took me to the next level I presently am, where I am more or less completely sinless, and edging towards perfection if not there already as God intended for us to be.

And the teachings of Jesus is the major factor behind this new level I am walking at, for it has the capacity to make one perfect if one keeps it.

For just as I was able to see the glaring difference between the change in my life from the life of sin, to the life of righteousness, the difference was also clear from when I upgraded from the level of righteousness to that of perfection.

But you have to take the first step of true repentance that's if you've not done that yet, to get you from the life of sin to the life of righteousness. Then you can take it from there.

I was willing even when I wasn't obedient, now i'm willing and obedient, and God was the one who made it possible for me.

So if you're truly willing, He can also do same for you, if you let Him, for nothing shall be impossible with God.

Could you please elaborate on the statement in bold?
