NL is sympathetic to the plight of the Nigerian business owner.

I am impressed.
Progressives encourage littering and pollution? undecided

Do you throw garbage on the streets and roads in Canada, constituting a nuisance to others using them?

i wonder if you will share this same sentiment if they start doing clearing and forwarding right in front of your mansion tongue tongue
it is this very attitude that makes nigeria so diificult

in my old close, some one started dealing cars in the close, next thing we had an influx of vehicle vandalisation.
in the same vein, in a domestic neighbpourhood, some hustler started a welding business. this led to further overloading of an already overloaded community switch board, fluctuating voltages, and damage to appliances of different people in the neighbour hood.

but hey, as long as you're making an honest buck in a hard country, it doesn't matter if your inconveniencing anyone right, because the needs of you supersede the needs of the many

or when someone [another honest working hustler] tried to bring a hotel into the close. fortunately everyone kicked against it. there are domestic locales where people did not put up a fight, and i feel for them. party and loud music till 1 am, people turning everywhere to public toilet. randy people fking in cars in the open. wonderful place to bring up kids in. i remember one neighbor with daughter already showing signs of waywardness freaking out completely over the idea of a hotel [what is hotel in naija other than short time joint] but it doesn't matter, because the only important thing is making money. it does not matter how much you inconvenience other as long as you are making your money. that is all that matters

six or seven years ago, a trailer rear ended me in traffic. demolished the back of my car. the standard is to sieze teh car until you are paid, but there was no way i could start parking a trailer in the close [ i have respect for other people].So i opted for taking the original papers of the car. that was how i followed the owner of the truck into the slums of ebute metta. when we got to his flat, it was a mess. his kids were just coming in from school, and i was looking like some fat tax collector. i took one look at the whole mess and took the measly 15k that he said was all he had [ of course you hustlers may begin laughing over how i fell for the format]. the question i came back with was - why is this fool, who does not have two nickels to rub together in this business. the truck was a dead vehicle. this is how nigerians are killed everyday, by hustlers who do not have the resources to do the business they are doing.

it is the same thing with most of these spammers. more greed than common sense. banking on the ignorance of the suckers who do click on their ads.
If you live in Nigeria, better start thinking like Nigerians.
And I wonder how you had to believe someone who drives a truck will have just 15k to spare for repairs.
Till we understand that naija isn't the west, then I believe everyone will settle accordingly.
Re: #savethefamilysection by Nobody: 2:45pm On Jul 14, 2019
First you guys have to understand that Nigeria is more like a jungle, so I wonder how you will expect order in a jungle.

Every one is trying to survive, majority of the people are doing that illegally, so if I see someone trying to earn an honest pay without breaking any laws, I would wholeheartedly support them.

Was it not the outgoing government of Ambode that built make shift tents for vulcanizers to be using beside the road ?

That initiative is not only risky to the lives of the operators as it offers no protective buffer in the event of a car ramming into them but also extremely anti-aesthetic and it is far from what obtains in developed nations as you will never see vulcanizers by the road side.

But then to the government, this is not the time for aesthetics, people are dying of hunger and you are preaching aesthetics.......

The priority at this time is to feed people.

it was the owner of the truck. if you do not have the resources to run a business, then you should not be in it.

a person who cannot release money to repair a damaged vehicle will not have money to maintain his truck. he will not have money for tires, to fix brakes, to fix lights. it is your hustlers who everyone has to give gap on the bridge because we can see their trucks sliding down.

it was one of your hustlers whose truck caught fire on festac link bridge two years ago. the bridge was out of commission for over six months. over 15 cars were destroyed in the fire. incidentally, that fire also destroyed the adjacent parking lot of another hustler - over five unsold cars were destroyed. as a hustler matter, i'm sure the sellers cars were not insured. that guy was probably like you, defending everything in the name of hustle. well he got burnt.

it is the same reason LASG started putting stringent laws against fire works, because a few years back one of your hard working co hustlers had his warehouse full of fire works for christmas catch fire.

Hmmm!
So let's say I am sanwo olu or Buhari perhaps and I am touched enough by this your model to put everything in perspective,of course like it's done in the UK where you are from.
And I apply this model in one of the poorest countries in the world where people barely feed, what do you think will happen?
I don't know what car you drive but would you insure a 010 Camry for 1 million naira?
Would you pay 500k for trucking a container from Apapa to oshodi?
Would you buy tires for your vehicle at 200k each?
Even retail too.would you pay 50% more of what you spend monthly on groceries?
And note that all these will be born by you making the same kind of money you make now in this current economic phase we are in.
Because if these people have to do things by your standards, then the masses must bear the cost!
If not for all these cuts that HUSTLERS do,you would have been spending like an American in a Nigerian economy, making the Nigerian kind of money.
I am sure you will be the first to carry placard to Abuja in the name of protest grin
Development is in stages, even the US took centuries to make it what it is today!

if you cannot afford it, then you should not be in the business. why do you think dangote was chasing graduates as employees for driving trucks? because he was liable for the damage or injuries caused by his trucks. most of your hustlers resort to begging after they have killed someone, or destroyed someones property. that tells you right there and then they should not be in the business, because they cannot bear the risks. i hope LASG follows through on the otedola bridge disaster; that was caused by your hustlers adjusting a truck bed rated 10 tons to 30 tons.

f course like it's done in the UK where you are from.
perhaps you cannot read or comprehend - i live in festac. i see the fallout of the madness of hustlers every day.

you also refuse to understand that the masses bear the cost of your hustlers every single day - with their lives. even you defending them - can be a victim. those trailers that have brakes or unsecured loads do not ask if na uk , fellow hustler or struggling nigerian before falling on them

Even retail too.would you pay 50% more of what you spend monthly on groceries?
stop the FUD. i am a very patient person, and i can sometimes scout four places before i buy something. nine times out of ten, the high prices are from your hustlers, accompanied by looong stories. the only thing most of you are trafficking in is ignorance of your customers.

i just gave one example of a hisense television. direct experience. most high prices are because of the GREED of your saluted hustlers. i check jiji, i check jumia etal - i see a device i want to buy at over 50k. i pay someone to buy same device on amazon and ship it down - 30k.

na your same fellow hustlers dey sell accidented cars as clean, not so/. i worked in apapa, and i saw them all the time on my commute home. dead cars. and your guys will polish them and sell them as first body, not so? that was how one of them sold a flood damaged benz GL as brand new to an oga in my office some years ago. everything na hustle.

Ofcourse I dont throw garbage anyhow cos the government here provides adequate garbaging system does your Nigerian government do that ? , and you dont even need to jump the bus like the average person does in Lagos, there are properly managed transit systems.

If you want to fix a problem, you fix the root cause not the symptom.

Do you have adequate storage and transport system to get their customers to them ?

You need to see the junk that comes out of containers on the daily. American rejects and scrap. I didn't even know my car was accidented until I ran a VIN check online.

The root cause of the problem is Nigerians like you.you lack the mental discipline to do the right thing. I would rather spend two hours in traffic than take a one way. Most Nigerians will not do that. You will be behaving in a hold up, then you will see some idiot scattering the entire line for everyone because like a Nigerian he only thinks of himself and his own comfort and urgency. Why are you behaving outside Nigeria? Because you know such behaviour is not acceptable.

Everything na hustle. We have to make this money.

Go to amazon or ebay or Newegg, and there is no duplicity. Brand new used refurbished, scratch and dent grade a grade b grade c. Not repackaging a damaged product as new.

I know your like will buy remove certified refurb sticker and sell as brand new. Hustle, no be so?

An hungry man, everywhere in the world will not think straight. That is why in developed countries there are what you called, food banks for people who are less priviledged to walk in and take free food . And also other social programmes to ensure that peoples, basic needs of food, shelter and clothing are met.

Do you have that in Nigeria ?

You cannot tell a starving man to obey rules and order because he is starving, his immediate instinct is to feed himself, his family and survive.

So it is not a Nigerian thing. When people are hungry and cannot guarantee their next meal what you will have is chaos.

The citizens are a product of the society and environment, not the other way round.

The example you stated does not fall into this arguement so stop trying so hard to twist the narrative, this is solely about people who are legitimately using NAIRALAND to grow their business.

Stop burying your head in the sand, a hungry man is a man without control even in AMERICA.

no one is in any business who has got enough money for it to run it perfectly.
Even adenuga said "only God knows what would have happened if conoil drilling didn't strike oil that day".
I trust you enough to be able to put 2 and 2 together to decipher what that means.
Nigeria operates an open market where if price or quality for A isn't good for you, simply go to the next dealership!
What I meant by hyper inflation isn't same as greed.
If it's a government policy to ensure proper insurance and taxing, then pricing will increase in every lot.so this isn't a greed problem but that of policy.
Know that Mr.
You(someone I like to think is smart) should know no one can afford to be greedy in an open market, except of course the buyer na ide.
And ide can be defrauded in the US too.

I'm aware of how the system works here. Your argument about the Nigerian government doesn't even make sense. Even if the government doesn't provide garbage cans, common sense ought to tell people not to litter. Many Nigerian streets are a dumpsite and eyesore b|c of people throwing garbage anywhere. No maintainance culture in that country.

I can walk or drive miles here in Canada w|o seeing a garbage bin to throw something in but that doesn't mean I'll then throw it anywhere I see fit. Common sense says I find a garbage bin to throw it in b|c this is its appropriate place. My street sef has no garbage bins yet it is spotless b|c people have sense enough not to litter, value cleanliness and are aware that littering is a $500 fine. I'm not calling people's advertisements in Family garbage but merely using this analogy to emphasize that things ought to be placed where they belong for the sake of order.

It is called regulation. That is why bank capitulation is 25 billion.that is why there is an amcon. Once upon a time a big boy like you could wake up to hear that your savings had all disappeared in a bank collapse. That's why there is regulation, so that not every joker can enter into a business.

Once upon a time bank capitalisation in Nigeria was 2 billion, and international drug barons were looking at Nigeria as a potential haven for money laundering.

You do not have the capital base or the resources, then you partner or you find another business. If I had decided to do full oyibo and take legal action against the fellow who bashed my car, that would have been a lifetime of penury for him. end of story.

the hustlers [as you call them] are just uncouth nuisances
i see them on whatsapp groups as well. sending 40 pictures at a go of some useless item no one is interested in buying. I ALWAYS call them out, at which point they start pretending they do not know it is rude, while telling me i can contact them to buy.

i ask them what would happen in the group, if everyone decided to be like them, flooding peoples phones with unsolicited messages

it is the same thing you see on regular nairaland threads where betnja agents and adult website admins spam every FP topic with messages

i live in festac, and i see the same behavior play out in the real world. every single corner is turned to a parking lot for used cars, or a flea market/bazaar. the entire place is an eyesore.

A person who is unprofessional in the way he markets his wares, will also be an unprofessional business person. the moment your hustle makes you a public nuisance, there is a problem.

the end result of this nonsense is that people will leave this forum, and the hustler will , like a virus, have to find some other avenue to spread to, pollute and destroy.
Una no go kill person. grin

25 billion as capitalisation is just minimum requirement,as would someone that wants to go into trucking need own a truck.
Do you think if UBA goes down today the 25B will reimburse people's deposits?
Lifetime of penury?didn't he own a third party insurance at least?

And that is hustler talk
The exact same sentiment echoed by yahoo boys

Off topic, This mentality is why it is so hard to do business as a Nigerian or in Nigeria. 50% of my online purchases have k leg because of 'suspicious activity'

You want to make a purchase you do multiple checks because in your mind the seller is an unrepentant thief who wants to scam you.

That's why I said most of you are trading in ignorance
The only way you can make money is when your potential client is a novice in the business.once the client knows what's up, you start getting aggressive. E dey happen well for motor section when some people call out the car hustlers.

Most of you in the end are the same.you complain about the state of Nigeria while diligently contributing your quota to keep it in the doldrums.

How many magas have died in the accidented vehicles you sold to them? No big deal is it? Hustle must continue, they are stupid and deserved it.
That's the Yahoo mentality, darling. Last last they graduate to money rituals and human trafficking. Money must be made, maga must pay.

Nigeria is like a jungle? Really?

So we shouldn't expect order?

Do you realise that not everyone in your family can afford to move to Canada. Your parents are probably still here. Your cousins, aunties etc

So Nigeria should continue to be insecure and without order because it is a jungle. If Nigeria was truly totally without order, do you think your family you left here wouldn't have been erased by Civil war or the herds men already.

No matter how long you run, you will come back and visit your family here and you need order to be maintained for you to even see them.

There are far too many people with comprehension problems on this forum.

Is Nigeria a jungle at this moment ? YES
Can something be done about it ? YES

So what is the fear mongering about ?

Nigerians and not just fulani herdsmen kill people at will in the name of jungle justice, without proper conviction in the court of law, is that not a jungle ?

Is it a news that I said Nigeria is a jungle, did you see any other person argue this ? Can't you see that you are the only one arguing that ?

If you live in a sane country for 1 week you will know Nigeria as it is is a jungle, no wonder even your politicians are writing IELTS.

And yes I still have family in Nigeria , so what ? Is that enough reason not to call a spade a spade ?

you know most 'hustlers' get fake papers. thats why their mo when in any accident is to run away.

you want to go into trucking business, it is more than just a truck

it is a roadworthy truck that will not have brakes fail an run into somebody's compund business petrol station or nepa pole
it is a truck with a properly rated chassis that will not fall over in a pothole
it is s a mature, proven driver with a proven guarantor/surety

90% of truck owners do not have these, so we have deaths and destruction everywhere.

i worked in the downstream industry and we had these issues all the time. some joker in his truck ran into our station, obliterating our sign. to pay for the sign [market value NGN 900,000] becomes long story. begging, i will pay in installment, attempts to run away, attempts to settle the police so the matter will be closed.

why is it happening? because the person running the business does not have the capacity to run it.

when a dangote truck broke the bridge at Ijesha, dangote paid for it
when the joker whose truck caught fire in festac link bridge destroyed it, teh government paid for it
when we start imprisoning people who cannot pay, people will respect themselves and face what they can do.

i have similarly lost count of the number of trucks that have no insurance. they only have fake papers.

Do you think if UBA goes down today the 25B will reimburse people's deposits?
why do you think we have CBN, Amcon and NDIC? to protect depositors from predatory cowboys.
