Chinese telecommunications firm Huawei is reportedly preparing to lay off hundreds of workers in the United States, reports The Wall Street Journal. The company has struggled in recent months after the Trump administration placed a de facto ban on US sales to the company, citing potential security threats and amidst the ongoing US-Chinese trade war.

According to the WSJ, Huawei is planning to lay off workers at a research subsidiary called Futurewei Technologies, which operates a number of research labs. Huawei will reportedly allow some Chinese employees the option of relocating back to China to remain within the company. Some employees have apparently already been notified that they will be let go, with other layoffs planned in the near future.

On May, the White House issued an executive order that allowed the US Commerce Secretary to give the US the authority to prevent US companies from selling to entities designated a threat to national security.

As a result, Huawei is no longer able to buy some of the parts and software that it needs for its products. While it looked as though Huawei might be getting a bit of a reprieve from the US ban on sales last month, the Trump administration has indicated that things likely won’t change until the two countries resolve their differences.

They were only there to steal intellectual properties and trade secrets from Amercian companies. Don't let anyone fool you. All the major technological innovations have been from the U.S for a reason. Facebook(Instagram, Whatsapp, Messenger) Google (YouTube, Map, Cloud) Microsoft, Twitter, Snapchat, Salesforce, Amazon, etc, the list goes on and on. Now the Chinese are making progress, they also have Tencent, Baidu and WeChat but the only reason why those tech companies are successful is because they are backed and highly favoured by the Chinese government. I was lucky to travel to Beijing once and I couldn't use Google, gmail, google map or any Google products and that's because Google had to pull out of China because of the numerous restrictions.

The Chinese do not play fair and have never played fair. It is very difficult to compete in China and even If they give you a chance, they add very high tariffs to make your products more expensive than the their own companies.

Another reason why china will continue to lag America in tech has to do with their cultural upbringing. American kids are raised to be outspoken and question authority including their parents and teachers. They are opinionated and allowed to express thoughts. Unlike Chinese children who are brood to respect elders and never speak against elders. This fundamental difference is the reason why Americans are creative and risk takers. China is very good at imitating and copying, that's why most of their advancement has been off stolen intellectual property, reverse engineering and patent infringement.

China will always lag behind America in technological prowess.

The ban hurts china more than the usa,china need to be fair on trade and open up their large market.Chinese would come to africa and dominate but you cant do the same in china,this is the last card the usa have to force china to open up their market to the world and now the usa just approved arms sales to taiwan.china must negotiate and be fair on trade because some countries are hurting from this trade war

This shouldn't do much damage as America is facing a labour shortage. Their American staff should easily find jobs.

There are tons of telecom companies that will easy "poach" these staff now for free. Workers in this sector are in hot demand and worsened by the fact that they are scarce.
