Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, has commended the call for herdsmen to leave southern part of Nigeria.

The area comprising of the South-West, South-East and South-South region are often under attacks by suspected armed herdsmen who kill, maim, rape and destroy landed properties and farmlands.

The plan by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to create Rural Grazing Areas (RUGA) nationwide for the herders was met with stiff resistance by southerners who accused the government of embarking on a land grabbing mission for herdsmen from the Fulani extraction.



Calling on the herders to leave the protectorate is the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) backed by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF).

This is after the CNG threatened the security of southerners living in their domain with the presidency asking the residents to discountenance the threat.

Hailing the decision, Mr Fani-Kayode said the call when heeded to will return peace in the troubled areas.

The former minister asked the groups to also withdraw their kinsmen from the North Central also known as Middle Belt region.

“I welcome the call by the NEF and the NCG for the Fulani herdsmen to leave the south,” the former minister said in a tweet on Wednesday.

“This will help restore peace, unity and national cohesion. They should leave the Middle Belt as well, renounce violence, stop the killings, stop the terror and turn in their deadly weapons,” he added.

Please note, the call is on herdsmen only, not Northerners .whom unfortunately the acts of the violent herdsmen and the docile/encouraging attitude of the Miyetti Allah hierarchy has ropped all herdsmen in one category. It's best to make the clarity obvious just so the xenophobic elements amongst us would take note.

The middle belt region should prepare for conflict as they return, because that will be the target area for them to settle. They should form and arm their local vigilantes very well as the police and military won't save them

I support this move except the call for them to leave Abuja which is a Federal Territory and shiuld be accessible for all Nigerians equally. Any call for Southerners to leave the FCT is an call for the division of Nigeria, since they are no more welcome in the capital of a country they are being forced to be a part of.

I'm trying to imagine the possibility of an Edo, Igbo, Efik, Yoruba, Igala, Ijaw person slapping a Hausa or Fulani person in his home state of Kano or Sokoto, let alone kill one, but the images are not forming, because it's almost impossible.

But those savages are so fearless that they dare to roam down to South and Middle Belt killing and maiming like they're untouchable.

Fulani Herdsmen leaves sorrow, tears and blood. That's their regular trade mark.

The only way to curb these killing is attack them first anywhere they are sited. There is nothing like a peaceful and innocent Fulani herdsman.

If they did not see this pregnant woman as innocent then none of them is innocent.
