They will still be an Igbo community within Nigeria. The root, dna will never change regardless of where you live and whether you identify as Igbo or not. That is just what you are. When Nigerian soldiers invaded Asaba in '69 or thereabout they did not ask people if they identified as Igbo or not. To the Hausa and Yoruba soldiers, you are Igbo and should be killed.

Each individual town in Igbo Land has its own specific history, and it is best to look at them exclusively not generically. For instance, Onitsha has very strong Igala influence apart from the widely-known Anioma connection.

Aro Igbo people are Igbo plus Ibibio, etc., etc., etc.
