Congratulations! Please to the bolded, does it mean that I can go to the airport and check in a day before my departure day? Kindly explain . Thanks

No you can checkin online 24 hours before your flight and get the kind of seat you want. So when you get to the airport the next day you just checkin luggage.

Oga, abeg. What details do you want? How she laid down three times to get pregnant or what exactly? What is your business with that? If you really needed the details why didn't you ask right away? You just wanted to bash the lady without knowing her story, a story which she's not even obliged to share with you. You could have just remained quiet. We must not hear your spew out insensitive comments on people all the time. She's a baby mama and so what? Did she kill anyone? I'm just angry about your downright rude and insensitive comment.

I didn't want to address this but I will. Nigerians who live in Nigeria. NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES/SITUATION. In the west people are not really judgmental about your personal life. As long as you stay in your lane and don't get in the way of someones life/money, the next person doesn't care about you. EVERY TIME I come on here, I constantly have to decode posts. After decoding a posts, I then say to myself "oh he/she is trying to do this. Why didn't they just say that ?" If the way you're trying to get into Canada is illegal and you want to legalize yourself for example, just say that. Someone reading your post may have been in that situation and found a way to legalize themselves. But when you're constantly taking in codes, they may not understand what you're trying to ask and not help.

For example she said this:" my problem is that I have 3 children who are bearing their father's surname and am like a single mother cause their father went to Europe when they were small and we didn't do traditional marriage or wedding all we did was normal introduction to our parents" What the fvck does this have to do with her question or migrating to Canada ? Is she ashamed to being a single mother ? You think the Canadian government gives a damn why you're a single mother ? All she had to say is that I'm a single mom of 3 trying to migrate to Canada under the caregiver program. Whats with the long talk my sista ? Ironically I have tried to get my cousin to Canada through the same route with a lawyer. I could have given her some advice/personal experience. Everyone should just be honest and direct with your questions. After-all, these are strangers on here. Who cares if they judge you.

Your favourite PM has landed o grin. So i booked my flight with Egypt Air July 12. Prior to that day i was struggling with my bags being overweight, i bought the digital weighing scale as advised by someone on my WhatsApp group. I weighed the bags and they both weighed 26kg and 23kg respectively. I began to ask myself, 'what did i pack like dis,who send me all this eru wey i dey carry. Note that i'm a single guy,ifeoma77 still dey do strong head wink so i had no goods to follow. I had to sacrifice my garri, removed some stuffs and tried to sort the bags. Eventuarry, they both weighed 23.9kg and 23.8kg respectively. At this point i was tired. I just told myself ama fi were port e ni o.

Fastforward to the D day. I got to the airport 9am for a 2pm flight. My family was to meet up with me from Ibadan.I just breezed past those Immigration at the gate, they didn't even look at me twice or called me. At about 10.30am checking in started, Alas my bags both weighed 49kg,olorun ayo mi o,wetin Local Pm go do like dis. I just talked to the guy and he told me dat i will need to sort him,i said no p. He didn't even mention a price, he showed me the exact counter to check my bags in else other counters are tiger counter. They won't allow it. I went there and the lady was like 'your bags are overweight',i just told her i have an understanding with the guy and she was like you shouldn't have an understanding with him, she sha reluctantly checked my bags in,i was happy ehn, that weight don show me pepper. I thought the guy had forgotten the 'sorting'. Naso he sent one guy to me after me as i was leaving the counter, i just gave that one the last 2k i had on me. I was happy to give him cos paying extra for the luggage would have been a dip in my pocket.

My family joined me and we took some pictures and had a moment. My brother in law is a security operative so he got one of his friends to help me with Immigration and customs guys. It was a breeze, most of them were like na our oga bring you here we can't delay you, i was feeling like a boss, JT things. Need i say that all those guys are just doing babianla, extorting money from people for no reason, awon ole ajibole.

Walked into the plane and i still be like shey na me be this, warri warri, i go enter Canada, their father. 5 hour flight to Cairo was just there, inflight entertainment was zero, food is minus 10 but local man was famished i ate it all except one white nonsense like dat. No leg room, the plane was just there. Most of the guys on board were heading to Dubai. We got to Egypt for a 5hour layover and boarding started. That was how the custom guys or who ever they are binned my body spray. Ojami lara je, oka milara. The guy no even look me twice, i just carried my kaya and left. Then the 12hour flight to YYZ began. Kai, after 5 hours i was tired, exhausted and almost cranky. It got to a point i was like who send me message sef,na me sha won go Canada. Ha, are we going to heaven, kilode, oti sumi. I felt a bit of discrimination, air hostess were only smiling to Arab or white guys. I will never fly them again.I'm like wahala tie niyen, today na today i go reach Canada today, they don't know whats going on haq haq haq haq. We sha finally landed in YYZ o,chai, oyinbo pple just full every where but i couldn't bask in the euphoria kan kan. I was tired and hungry, enu gbe. Did my Custom clearance, the guy was not smiling at all, one Lee guy like that. I'm like na u sabi, i don get this PPR para e. Final destination was Regina,so i needed to get my luggage and check them in again for my 3hr connecting flight. That was when i saw free trolleys everywhere. Trolley wey boys they use hustle for MMA. Chai Naija how far. I checked my bags in and went to the waiting section for my flight. I had 20CAD like that on me, i got a sandwich and water. The Indian lady said water is 352, i was like 352 ke, on top water, omi abuwe abumu. Shey i won buy kanji ni.She smiled and said its 3dollars and 52 cent then my body now calmed down. Na Canada language be that.

Finally landed at Regina, Air Canada flight was nice just the food selling. Me i just dey tell them i'm ok. I was not okay kankan. You won make i swipe my card for here, olorun oni fun yin se, with the POF wey boiz won manage. The guy beside me ordered one burger like dat,the smile just dey enter my nose but Local man, sorry International man just arranged himself. My host was already waiting for me at the airport. Regina is a nice and quiet place, not a big city like GTA but i'll live. They have been gisting me about the cold here and i'm scared already. My host have been extremely nice to me. Been taking me around town, done with my SIN, health card has been processed even got a library card, account opening to be sorted tomorrow. Na accomodation and job remain.

Guys how do you people adjust to time difference, i've been sleeping at Nigerian time and its been a real struggle, chai e no easy at all. 4am sun don show, 9pm e still dey.
But then, i am here and i believe my success story in this land is being written. Sorry for the long post.

Hello Liz019. Please do you mean you were charged 210 USD for every KG OVER 23kg of your required 2 luggages OR you were charged 210 USD for EACH BAG as you stated meaning that even if the bag weighed 112kg, a person would still pay 210USD?

Liz019:
I travelled via Ethiopian airlines, they charge 210 USD for every extra bag of 23kg. Lets just say all my bags were very very overweight, so I paid the price cry

@PM JustinTrudeau welcome. Lovely landing gist.

I'm beginning to think that some airlines' scales are adjusted. No matter how much you weigh at home their scale will still add 2kg to your load.

Ethiopian Airlines so far has not had this problem but I believe this is not the first time on this thread that someone weighed at home and Egypt Air added 2kg to their kaya.

Each overweight bag is 210USD. Each bag can not weight more than 32kg. If it is, you cargo it.

My Landing Story

Fast track to July 13th, I left my family apartment at Ikeja around 10:00am for my flight of 1:40pm. I had checked in a day before, so all I needed to do was weigh my bags and check them in again. As I earlier mentioned, my measuring scale was very reliable and I barely had any back and forth at the airport. I went ahead to bubble wrap my 2 bags at N1k each, as I did not lock the bags and didn’t want them torn either. When I was done, I went ahead to snap pictures with family before bidding my farewell. I did all necessary documentation and in no time boarded the plane.

But all glory to God for speed and making all fall in place. My apologies for the very long story. I wish everyone still in the process divine speed and safe trip into Canada.
God bless you.
It has finally ended in praise!

Small world!!! We were on the same flight.

Good day and happy new month everyone.

I have read a lot of priceless advices and help rendered on this wonderful platform, and I must confess- I’m truly impressed.

I will be landing in a month time and can’t wait to share my own landing gist grin. Meanwhile, I know it’s going to be hectic for me as I don’t have anyone in or around my destination- St. Catharines, Ontario (Brock University MSc Student). One of my major challenges is getting an apartment, I have searched through kijiji and not comfortable with the available ones. I need help on other areas I can channel my research on, or i would really appreciate more if a Godsent kiss on this forum who stays around my destination can help secure one for me and I will pay on arrival.
Thanks so much!!!

Go go Bagder! I am a second year MBA student at Brock.

My Landing Story
I got my PPR in March 2019 after more than a 5-month wait. It was a very tiring experience, I must acknowledge. Well, I sent my documents and passport the next day to Accra through the usual channel. I was overly excited but knew that the real work had just begun.
Immediately, I decided to book my flight through Ethiopian airline for July 19th after considering the best prices and taking into consideration my notice period at the office. After much considerations, I decided to change my flight date to an earlier date (July 13th) because of some commitments on the 19th which I really did not want to affect my traveling date. Mind you, I did all these before my COPR arrived because if I had waited, I probably wouldn’t have gotten the best of prices as my scheduled flying date was at the peak of summer.

God bless you.
It has finally ended in praise!

Good day guys and landed seniors. I've got my PPR and just waiting for my COPR. My plan is to fly into Canada by September. By where to settle is my problem. I'm an Architect. Please architects in the house and those in Construction industry, which province do you think offers more employment opportunities to architects. Have Ontario, Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton in consideration but I don't mind any other provinces. Please your responses and inputs will really go a long way in my final decision. Thank you....cheers

I know how much I loved reading up stuff about life in Canny while I was in naija. However now that I'm here, my motto is 'who no go, no know.' Guys it's good to research and plan but please stay flexible because I've realised that plans usually change on arrival.

Process of buying a used car in Alberta (Calgary)

1. Find a car. Kijiji, Facebook marketplace, Varagesale, letgo are some platforms. Inform your network that you want a car in case someone that someone knows is selling. You can also visit an auction house. Don't forget to change your location to Canada if using marketplace, also put at least some posts of you in Canada else seller may think you're a scammer.

2. Once you've shortlisted a few, arrange viewings with the sellers

3. Get someone who knows cars to view with you for second opinion. Some people involve mechanics at this stage. Anyway, it's about same process as if buying a used car in naija.

4. Usually when you like one, you then do your final haggling. When you see online you ask if it is negotiable. But it makes more sense to price the car after taking it for a spin and you've decided to buy it. You can be like, I have so and so amount in cash.

5. Make payment. If transfers are okay by the seller, fine. Otherwise if you don't have cash you can both drive to your bank so you withdraw.

6. Seller signs a bill of sale. Just one paper lol

7. If the seller is willing to drop you at your house, lucky you. Because you cannot drive the car without plates and the seller will unscrew their plates and carry away. If seller is not dropping you, you either tow the car, or borrow someone's plates.
Ideally, your car should be insured before you move it even with borrowed plates. No car should be on the road without insurance.
You cannot park your car on the street without plates. It can be in a driveway though.

8. Get insurance. You can do this by making phone calls or requesting quotes online. For me this was a very tough process as they kept telling me I needed to pay the entire annual premium upfront. Finally got one that gave me a reasonable monthly premium.

8 Go register your car at a registry. You'll need the bill of sale, your photo ID and your proof of insurance. You'll be given plates instantly. You can pay for one or two years. A year's price is about 70 something dollars but your year ends according to the alphabet your surname begins with. So for instance your surname ends with O, your registration will expire in December so you'll pay only 30 something dollars (prorated).

9.congratulations! Your commute time just got cut by half!

As a JJC concerned, I'm sure that more knowledgeable calgarians will comment with any additions or corrections.
