Nigerians are criticising Nollywood actor and director, Desmond Elliot, for calling on the government to ban the influx of foreign movies to help Nollywood grow, Igbere TV reports.

Elliot had given this advice in an interview with HIP TV.

“Ban all foreign content, you know, make it difficult for foreign content to come in, so your own local content can grow and then you need to support,” he said.

Nigerian are however not pleased with his comments.

Will they also ban the several online streaming and downloading platforms? Nigerians and the shallow way they think.
Develop your Nollywood industry without interferring with Hollywood. Can you even stop Alaba Merchants from doing their God-given work?

I can't believe he said that. What a shallow thinking human being! I can't remember when last I saw a Nollywood movie due to their lack of professionalism. Yet, these meaningless movies are exported to other African countries.

You should be more worried about improving your content.

Nigeria isn't ready to exclude herself from the outside world. In that, your opinion is irrelevant. Need I also remind him that import and export go hand in hand?

I kinda support him because ZEE WORLD and TELEMUNDO has done MUCH HARM to our NIGERIA MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS if you know you know.

But i don't support him in another way because ACTION movies (like ENDGAME,BATTLE ANGEL,READY PLAYER ONE,13 HOURS) mostly increase my intelligence and knowledge for HI-TECH GADGETS (ALL HAIL STARK AND BRUCE)

I will choose a Mexican movie any day, or time to a Nigerian movie. Though, each industry has something peculiar to her people their scripts are based on, Telenovelas still do better in terms of professionalism than Nollywood. Their scripts still get you engrossed unlike Nollywood that now recycles old stories with one or two twists.

Nollywood should be competing with Zeeworld 'cause I don't even know what those ones act.

The industry is nothing to write home about. They think recycling fair-skinned ladies to act same plots will earn them so much. Have you noticed that all our actors and actresses are producers now? Desmond had better channel his energy to the right cause.

This guy is the biggest aturu of the year for saying this nonsense, so a person like me should watch the junk thrash being produced in crappie nollywood, what a disgusting statement
