Gokada Achieves 99.8% Safety Records After 2 Million Rides by AutoJoshNIG: 3:18am On Jul 25, 2019

On-demand motorbike hailing service, Gokada, a technology-driven alternative transportation platform for quick intracity mobility, is pleased to announce that it has achieved a landmark 99.8% safety record since it officially commenced operations in 2018. This translates to just 0.02% incident rate per ride.

The brand which prides itself on safe, fast and efficient intracity transportation is focused on changing the face of transportation in Nigeria by leveraging technology to connect users to the nearest motorbikes within their location, helping them reach their destination quicker without the inhibition of traffic jam.

This impressive safety milestone was recorded across about two million rides via its platforms.

Speaking on the critical milestone, Gokada Co-CEO, Ayodeji Adewunmi reiterated the brand’s commitment to promoting safety, fast and efficient transport and helping passengers reach their destination with ease. “Before now, commercial motorcycles were believed to have been responsible for about 69% of the road accidents in Lagos.

“We were committed to reversing this ugly trend by prioritizing the safety of our pilots and the thousands of customers who ride on our bikes. In pursuit of this goal, we upskilled our drivers, expanded their capacity for defensive driving and put in place mechanism to comprehensively track every ride for any incident.” Ayodeji said.

He added that; “while all our customers are assured of safety, we still have a structure in place that allows rapid medical response in the unlikely event of an accident. However, our ultimate objective is to achieve a zero-incident milestone across our operations.”

In his remarks, Gokada’s Emergency Response Officer, Mr. Tola Bakare stated; “We prioritize the safety of our customers beyond any other goal in the organization. We constantly monitor all our pilots’ trips to ensure that in the event of an unlikely incident, our first responders will be at the scene to provide emergency attention to the victim. These responders are adequately trained and skilled for this purpose.” he said.

Since the commencement of operations, Gokada has trained and on-boarded thousands of motorcycles and professionally trained pilots. In its quest to change the face of transportation in Nigeria and subsequently Africa, Gokada plans to have more motorcycles in Lagos metropolis.

In a very busy and congested city like Lagos, Gokada will always thrive. However, government should focus more on building intracity rail networks that can connect people faster and more directly to long distances, the roads will surely be free and traffic jam will reduce drastically.

Gokada have got courteous drivers. I give it to them.

Trust any self reported safety record at your own peril. If they said the accident rate of ordinary okada is 60% how come theirs is just 0.2%, are they operating in a vacuum?

Impressive. If only the average "okada" rider was trained like this the rate of accidents on our roads would reduce.

Over 20 years of APC stealing and trillions of budget, is it not a shame that this has not happened.
Something that Jonathan did in five years for Abuja. Something that Addis did in about four years.
Is that how to be progressive Stealing by trick.

Previous Govts Initiated ‘Most Of The Things This Administration Is Doing’ – Adesina

A majority of the projects the Muhammadu Buhari administration is working on was inherited from previous administrations, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity has said.

Mr Femi Adesina said this when he appeared on Channels Television’s special Independence anniversary programme on Sunday.

“Most of the things this administration is doing – 60 to 70 percent of them – were initiated by previous governments,” he said.

“That shows you that in the past a government will come and say ‘this is not our project’ And it will discard what was being done and start fresh ones.”

As a result, Mr Adesina said there are many half and quarter-completed abandoned projects.
But rather than abandon the project, he explained that the current administration will complete it.

An example is the Abuja-Kaduna rail project which the Presidential aide said was up to maybe 60 to 70 percent complete when the last administration left.

“This administration came, completed it and inaugurated it. Then you will still find some people shouting, ‘they are claiming credit for what the past administration started,” he said.

“It shows there is a mentality in Nigeria that makes governments not want to complete what previous governments have started. But this administration is not going that way at all, it is just doing what needs to be done for the good of the country.”

They've also reported what they've done to correct the trend. Clearly there is a huge distinction between independent and often uneducated okada riders and people working for an organized tech-based startup.

It's like comparing danfo drivers and uber drivers. There is a clear differnce in the micro environment in which both operate.

when you drive and suddenly see a pothole, the tendency is for you to make a quick swerve to avoid the pothole, of course the gokada is not expecting you to swerve, this is also one of the major causes of road accident on the highway.

That 400 accidents by my calculations.

That's still quite high in my opinion as motorbike accidents can be ghastly and deadly.
