Many people think chosing not to denounce her Christian faith is something Leah Sharibu did on her own. They do not know that it is the Holy Spirit that prevented her from doing such.

Few days before the news of her alleged death, I was doing some research about Leah Sharibu. I wanted to know if she was saved or not. My findings showed me that she is saved and also a Christian who believes in Once Saved Always Saved. She believes in the eternal security of the believer and that one can't lose his salvation.

How did I know all of these? I got to learn about the Church she attended before her abduction by Boko Haram terrorists. She attended Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) and was a chorister. Going through their website, I found their statement of faith which is exactly what my fellow Nairalander and member of the church @shadeyinka said. See their statement of faith below.

Salvation

Salvation is received by faith alone in the God-Man, Jesus Christ, apart from works. Christ died as a substitutionary sacrifice to redeem us from our sins, if we believe in Him. His shed blood and His resurrection provide the only ground of justification and salvation. As seen above, the church Leah Sharibu attended before her abduction is a church that believes in Once Saved Always Saved and also the eternal security of a believer. It clearly shows she is saved and can never lose her salvation.

When we preach about the Once Saved Always Saved doctrine, many doubt us and even bark at us saying we are promoting a sinful lifestyle. They say we are giving Christians a license to sin. No, we are not. We are only telling them that their ability not to sin plays no role in getting them saved. It is Jesus that saves us.

These fake Christians only believe Jesus took away their past sins, and that any sin they commit from today henceforth is held accountable to them. This same people still open their mouth to say Jesus Christ is the same Yesterday, today and forever. But according to their believe, Jesus is the only Jesus of yesterday, he plays no role in their today and forevermore. Leah Sharibu believed in Once Saved Always Saved, a doctrine which many people says promotes a sinful lifestyle and is a false doctrine. But when Leah was kidnapped, many unsaved Christians of pentecostal fellowship, who believe they can lose their salvation, were quick to lambaste her for not denouncing her faith. They think faith is something you lose and get back anytime you feel like. If they were in her shoes, they would have accepted Islam just to save their life. Why? Because they are not certain of heaven. They don't know if they are saved or not. They are not saved.

Leah Sharibu knows she's saved, that's one of the reasons why she didn't denounce her faith. She knows if she gets killed, heaven is certain for her. If Once Saved Always Saved is a doctrine doctrine that promotes a sinful lifestyle, she would have denounced Christianity so she can return to her sinful lifestyle. No, she chose to stand by the gospel which the Apostles preached and died for. She has shown the entire world how that gospel can build a faith capable of moving mountains. Just like the Apostles of Jesus who were still performing wonders during their persecution, Leah Sharibu is currently performing wonders in Boko Haram captivity. Below is a narration by an escaped Boko Haram abductee who encountered her in their custody.

“I recognise the picture, it is Leah. She refused to convert to Islam in the camp. There is a small wall separating us; so, we interacted well but when a ‘soldier’ was approaching, our interaction would be disrupted. She told us to continue praying and she led us in prayers. She told us that she and others were kidnapped from Dapchi in Yobe State.

“Since she refused to convert, the soldiers told us that she was an infidel and that she should not be allowed to cook for us. Leah never attended the Islamic lesson. I am sure she is alive because I left her there. Leah is a strong believer in her faith with strong character also. Whenever any of us was ill, she would pray for us and we would be alright.

"After I had the unpleasant child delivery, I was always having stomach pain. One day, Leah told me to have the belief that God could heal me. She laid her hand on my stomach and prayed for me. She was like a prophetess in captivity. She prays and heals people. She kept preaching and telling us that there is a supreme God that watches over us. Every day, we heard her pray.”

Don't be surprised when you hear that Leah Sharibu saved the soul of a Boko Haram captor of hers. That's how Paul saved the soul of a soldier who guarded the prison he was kept captive in.

Now, why exactly did Leah Sharibu not denounce her faith? She couldn't denounce it because she was always under the power of the Holy Spirit. Even when asked, she won't. If she opens her mouth to speak, it is not what her captors want her to say that will come out because she's not the one speaking at that moment.

Leah Sharibu cannot denounce her faith because the Holy Spirit won't allow her. She has the Holy Spirit inside her, which is what everyone who believes he can't lose his salvation has. That's why she couldn't lose her salvation to save her life. The Holy Spirit seals us right from the day we accepted Jesus till the day Jesus comes to redeem us. Our sins will grieve the Holy Spirit but we are still sealed.

Ephesians 4:30
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

If you don't have the Holy Spirit in you today, you are not a Christian but a fake and imposter and God doesn't know you. You are not his child.

Romans 8:9
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Having the Holy Spirit is not something you have to climb Mount Everest before you can get. It is as simple as drinking a glass of water. It is as somple as eating a delicious meal. It is as somple as receiving a good news. All you need to do is believe in Jesus Christ. You don't need any works of righteousness which are filthy rags before God. Jesus alone saves you and will get you to heaven no matter what.

Don't be fooled by the false gospel that you can lose your salvation. That is Satan's tool which he uses to prevent people from relying solely on Jesus Christ for salvation. He makes them rely on their works i.e ability not to sin, instead of Jesus. Sadly for such people, Salvation is not of works.

As seen above, salvation is a gift of God which means it is not something you earn. Just have faith in Jesus and you will receive it.

Lord Jesus, I believe you came in flesh, fired for my sons and resurrected to grant me eternal life. I henceforth rely on your work on the cross and no longer rely on my own works of filthy rags. I trust you from today henceforth to keep me safe and to receive me on heaven. I will no longer believe I can lose the eternal life which you have given me. Amen.

The message is clear and it means we should always stand strong in the faith no matter what. We are not to be lazy Christians who only care about the bliss on Earth and are scared to take up our cross and follow Jesus. That's exactly what Paul, Peter and the rest Apostles went through, which Jesus Christ warned we will also go through in Mathew 24.
