All he has said is what me and many others have explained severally. If the majority Igbo officer truly wanted to rid the country of Corruption, does it mean only the leaders and senior military officers of other regions were the only corrupt ones. So Azikiwe was not corrupt. Why did he overstay his vacation just to avoid the Coup? Why did Ironsi not court marshall the coup plotters according to military laws? This and many more are the questions begging for answers.

Lol ask themgrin Of course crafty Zik knew a coup was in the pipeline so he stayed out of the way

The 1966 coup wasn't the last, many others happened but they keep hitting on this and roping igbo as though all Igbos held a meeting for it to happen. These guys were military men doing their game of thrones. They are accusing igbos because they know that in their heart of heart they are cheating and marginalizing them.Right now what we have is a religious group marginalizing the other.unfortunately one religious group used Theophilous Danjuma and Gowon from the middle belt who are both Christians to assend to prominence.

Of course they held a meeting for it to happen....... Greed kee u dia

so many versions of this story were released in the early 80s too bad many of these write ups are out of print, but you could find them in newspapers written some 25 to 30 years ago.

i guess we will never know how ironsi was killed, but he was killed.

our ipob brothers should blame themselves for their lack of unity.

You are very correct. I am convinced beyond doubt that all the gang up against south east is for the fear of what would happen if ever an IGBO man is in charge. Right from all federal force apparatai, they ensure that Igbo's are not allowed to be the head no matter their qualification and experience. But definitely, this is the worst they can do. One day the Igbo will rise and they won't be given a second chance. It will be total recolonization. One day their fear will certainly be before them and there will be no escape route.

Their biggest fear is that Igbos will retailiate against them against the evil they did after the so called "Igbo coup". Unfortunately for them, Karma has a different plan for them and doing the retaliation on our behalf. GOD is truly wonderful!

People who had built Empires and societies over thousand years.... when they were told Nigeria would be their new Empire they were disgusted and frowned.....they rejected the thrash and said it is unbefitting, and they set about mastering a new modern society for them and generations to come. These were the Yorubas.

Those who had never been rulers of Empires nor built societies....they looked at Nigeria as the best possession and treasure anyone could ever dream of....and they got over themselves with zeal and rush to own it at all cost. They made it their goal to possess what 60years ago Yoruba saw and rejected as thrash. In their overzealousness they ruined everything, they invaded the modernity erected by Yorubas and ruined that as well. These were Ibos and Fulanis.

You ask yourself...is Nigeria not a thrash

Im an awakener, and speak with facts!
you are absolutely right man. This was why they(azikiwe and bello) both rejected the secession clause. They saw the new nation as a way forward from their backwardness while awolowo who knew yorubas are already far ahead fear they might use their numbers to take over what the yorubas have built over time.

You are totally on point. They both have so much to gain with the new country as at then while yorubas have little or nothing to gain from it cuz everything was already in order buh look how we living now, those that wanted it so badly then now doesn't want anymore cuz it eventually didn't favour them while those that never care now doesn't still care till date. They always say, you should think before acting, if only azikiwe had think it through and not let his greediness took over his soul, we won't be where we are today.

The word colonization there is colloquial... How possibly can you colonize a people within the same country?. People who have been held down for so so long and manages to get to their feet will do anything to ensure that they are not returned to where they triumphed from....get the meaning right please
wirinet:

Is this an admission that the first chance was simply because of the ambition to colonise?

You are simply reinforcing the fear of other Nigerians, even the south south tribes.
Why will the Igbos want to colonise other tribes?

Ostensibly, a strategic move to prevent these senior officers from stopping the coup. Rememebr that the coupists were just majors.
It's a horrible strategy. You don't kill your fellow officers and comrades, because you want to take over government, especially innocent soldiers.
You will elicit anger, resentment and distrust. A government created by such bloodshed could never last.

How many other coups had that level of bloodshed?

The Igbos are the cause of all the political problems Nigeria is suffering today.

their greed for domination led the Igbo race into chaos and perpetual marginalisation!

today, they have reaped and are still reaping what they sow!

unknown to them that education is the key to domination and they have educated people then,
so the Igbo's just blow up their chance into oblivion!
You have to safeguard your heart from evil. An Igbo being the leader of the coup does not make the coup an Igbo coup.
First of all, the coup was stopped by an Igbo man.
Secondly, the majority of the Jan 1966 coup plotter, was not Igbo, quote me any where.
Thirdly, the person sent to eastern region had a cold feet and did not carry the plan.
Fourthly l, Aguiyi Ironsi did not handle the coup plotter with a hard hand and that sent message that he was partial.
Lastly, Danjuma story is sketchy, no matter what is said or done and with his own story, you can see the bitterness and pain that a desk officer was incharge of him.
There is more to this story.

After Nigeria's independence, Igbos were the majority in Nigerian army, and Igbos make up around 70% of top military officers in Nigerian army then, so it was natural for Igbos to be the dominant tribe in any military coup at that time.

But in their effort to make the rest of gullible Nigerians believe it was an Igbo coup, they intentionally removed names of military officers from Hausa, Tiv, Idoma, Urhobo, Ijaw, Kanuri, etc that also participated in that 1966 Nzeogwu led coup just to make sure the rest of Nigerians saw it as Igbo coup.

They forgot that Igbos don't have time to be gathering to discuss against any tribe or any region as at then, instead Major Nzeogwu and his co aggrieved military officers drawn from all Nigerian tribes made the decision to wipe out the then corrupt, tribalistic politicians at that time, and they knew for them to achieve this, they needed to eliminate some top military officers who would stand against their mission, and the reason they ended up killing not just politicians but some top military officers too.

An Igbo coup, yet Ojukwu never liked or agreed with Nzeogwu, Ifeajuna and co that were the leaders of that coup....the problem Nigeria has always had is that majority of Northern Nigerians don't have sense.....they refuse to be educated, they spend the time they are supposed to use to acquire civil education cramming ancient barbaric religious doctrines of Islam that has never helped any nation of the world to become technologically and economically developed!

It was Tafawa Belewa's religous extremism and tribalism like today Buhari that pushed Nzeogwu and fellow military chaps to carry out the first coup, and if we had brave, courageous military guys in Nigerian army today, the corruption and negligence happening within Nigerian top military brass and the politicians leading to the unwarranted killings of our young military officers by ragtag Boko Haram militants that ought to be defeated by one army barrack, would have led to another bloody coup in Nigeria angry

Yet Igbo leaders and Generals miraculous escaped the killings..... Ironsi had more than six month to prosecute the coup plotters, rather he keep paying them salary even while in prison....

the major problem why many doesn't want igbos in the helm of affairs isn't about the '66 coup, this thier new generation are suffering from the deeds of azikiwe and his cohorts. It is about domination, they don't give in to the idea of equality and faireness, when they are chanced, they sidelined every other tribes and dominate them. The northerners gave ironsi 6 good months to give jugdement but we all know he wouldn't do a thing, azikiwe did this very same thing to yorubas trying to take over lagos totally. So you see, none of the other two major tribe can ever trust an igbo man with power because of what their leaders did in the past. They still practise this very same thing till date.

How come you say unseen hands were determined to foist Fulani hegemony on Nigeria and at the same time 67% of Nigerian army officer's cader were Igbos. How would that have been possible?

If 67% of Nigerian army officer's cader we Igbos at that time, why weren't 67% of officers killed during the January coup Igbos?

Gowon, Danjuma and other northern soldiers retaliated only against Igbo officers, it was the northern masses that killed innocent Igbo civilians. Although you could accuse Gowon of not doing enough to stop the killings.
Just as bubu doing nothing about Fulani herdsmen. Well we're watching.

....and Igbos will strike back, you can bookmark this, it may take decades or centuries, but Igbos will strike back....it may happen after Igbos have left Nigeria to form their own super great/powerful nation and then they will strike back as another nation invading another nation just as Germany struck back at the rest of Europe for what they did to them, and when Germany struck back in 1945, Europe lost so much.....French king ran away, Queen Elizabeth was in fear, not until USA and Russia stepped in to help them find peace.

When Igbos will strike, the story of German invasion of France and London will be a joke...the whole north will be in flames. It won't be fought by foot soldiers, it will be fought by sophisticated air weapons that will level what is left of barbaric northern Nigeria. London is on flames will be a childsplay to what will befall Northern Nigeria when the Almighty Eastern Eagle will strike, yes it must happen to also avenge the years of killing and marginalization of our people just as you avenged yours sad

Danjuma even as your people are paying the huge price of their atrocities against Igbos in 1966, Igbos will strike back nonetheless, but when, I cannot tell, but it must happen because you useless souls have never for one day shown any remorse for the evil you all perpetrated against civilian Igbos....I don't care about what happened between military people and politicians, but involving innocent, unarmed Igbo civilians in your madness of 1966 was your greatest mistake and reason your region will continue to reap the seeds of the evil they sowed angry angry

I don't know who you are. But this is exactly how I feel towards Nigerians. And if I have my way, this revenge must be exacted, be it 200 years or 1000 years from now, it must be done. Only then will the spirits of our dead, rest in peace.

As for Danjuma, he and his minority people in North are destined for extinction. We will be here and watch it all happen. The Fulanis are like the white walkers coming for everyone, but they (Northern minorities) are in the midst of the storm, and when they have been utterly subjugated and swallowed by their masters, we will be here to put a stop to it all.
