To me, this is a classical case of cure worse than the ailment. The little girl being a child may be thrilled by this "palliative", but in actual sense, it is no where close to the solution of her daily energy-sapping distant trekking.

The bicycle is not motorised, she needs to apply effort to move it forward. The applied effort will be used to move her weight as well as that of the bicycle and she will easily get tired as compared to if she was to walk.

There are bicycles with better efficiency but certainly not this one used mainly for playing in the compound.

The above is not true and will defy laws of thermodynamics, which recognizes that, the bicycle does some work along side the little in their combined goal to move from point A to point B.

Even if she have to peddle up a hill, which require more energy compare to walking up the hill; the decent from the require almost zero energy expedition with the bicycle but on foot, you will still expend some energy.

Since this is a round trip through the same path, it means there will be exactly equal amount of ascends and descends, therefor they will cancel out each other...what is left is the kid applying less energy to peddle the bicycle on a level plane resulting in the bicycle wheels covering a larger distant.

Bicycle is far better than trekking. Some landscapes are plain, some are ascending hill while others are descending hill.

The bicycle still remain mean of transportation

Something tells me you are not a bicycle riding enthusiast. I used to do a lot of bicycle riding in the past, and I can tell you that it is more fun and more relaxing than trekking under the sun!
