I'm certain cases of building collapse will be very rare if most Nigerian landlords will improve on their maintenance culture. Tenants too should do away with the mentality of "it's not my house". As long as you live in an apartment, even if for a short period of time, try and make sure the place is in optimal condition because at the end of the day, if the building collapses, it is you and your family that will bear most of the losses.

Can someone please advice me. I am currently building a duplex in Onitsha. We are at the point of sand filling prior to doing the german floor or DPC. Now I am wondering if to sand fill with laterite or use sharp sand if cost are close.

External water seepage could be due to a variety of reasons including cracks on external wall, honey comb concrete, defective sealant at window, defective waterproofing membrane at roof, defective external water and drainage pipes, etc.


Defective Drainage System
Inadequacy in design of drains (such as insufficient diameter of drains, bends too sharp); blockage of drains by rubbish/sand collected in the system especially in bends or traps; insufficient number or deterioration of brackets leading to hammering and breakage of supply pipes; blockage of open joints such as hoppers of down pipes by plants or rubbish; or unauthorized additions overloading the drainage system are the causes of broken pipes



Defective Electric Installation
