Anybody who is smart would either buy a power bike or just enter public transport in Lagos else you will be frustrated and angry on the wheels all the time. Evenings are extremely worse police army pass One way, bus park on the road, market women share the remaining road, pedestrians also take their cut, cars are left with little or nothing grin
Enter public transport and end up smelling like a mechanic when you get to work from all the exhaust fumes, sweat and fart BO in the bus? cool

Y won't dere be much traffic in lagos, when people from different locations illegally com to pitch their tents there, the worst part is those big men that do acquire big cars everyday by day more than 2 for that matter just to belong..

They make it in such a way that if you want to make it big you must com to Lagos i can't see d reason y the Federal govt will situate all the core businesses in Lagos, sea port should be opened in other States to make life easy for Nigerians. The traffic is so unbearable
.... I think am missing something here bro..... I seriously don't know how one could open seaport in a state where there isn't deep waters for ship to dock........

As long as Lagos has the only functioning port the traffic will continue..

Lagos needs more road network...
Other coastal states like Akwa Ibom, delta should be encouraged to have port.

It is terrible. I am going into full time consulting by end of 2020. God help me. I want to take full control of my life and health.

I can't continue with 8 - 5 madness in Lagos. The impact of the accumulated stress would be felt more in your old age not now for those that will get to old age anyway.

I use my people that have retired as an example. Most of them are suffering from one debilitating disease or another.

Why would any sane person want to live in Lagos?

Our problems are largely self-inflicted. We suffer needlessly because we fail to engage the power of the Mind and use our critical thinking skills.

Why should Lagos be overpopulated when other South-West States can be developed?

Why shouldn't there be an efficient rail system linking all South West states so someone living in Ogun State can take a high speed rail to work in Lagos?

Why should people continue to chase the non-existent golden fleece in Lagos?

The black man has a long way to go intellectually and developmentally.

The black man is unthinking and lacks foresight.

The black man is not visionary and doesn't see an urgency in the need to develop in all areas.

The black man doesn't value time and the dignity, welfare of human and animal life.

The black man has many problems he is not willing to use his thinking faculties to solve.

sorry River state..

If delta ,Akwa Ibom,Rivers ,bayelsa are all having functioning ports . The traffic in Lagos will reduce and Lagosians will enjoy that state. Nigeria will also prosper but tribalism won't allow that happen..

Marina to Apapa by road: 2 hours

Marina to Apapa by boat: 18 minutes.

Spot the difference.

If Sanwoolu wants to leave a proper legacy, open waterways for affordable boat public transport ALL OVER Lagos. Waking up at 4-5AM for job that starts 8AM is a ticking time bomb. A city of 24 million, all lives governed by traffic. Terrible stuff.

Next time, take the boat ride from Falomo in Ikoyi to Oniru/Sandfield in Victoria Island, or Lekki Phase 1 jetty.

You will spend just 15 minutes and cut off the Bonny camp traffic.

Why do you people always chant "seaports" as an excuse? Is it everyone living in Lagos, that has earns a living through the seaports? shocked

Lagos is a commercial capital, for goodness sake. Does Onne not have a functional seaport? Why hasn't it grown to become as densely populated as Lagos?

uuzba:
Who does the development?
As a guy, I believe you can arrange your house.
If power reach, can do your compound.
If you still have energy, you need to gather your neighbours/association and fix up your street.
You need to be a heavy big boy to fix up your estate. And that's the highest power a single fellow has
The state roads are in the hands of the government and if those roads remain erroded and impassable, vehicles and business cannot function.
That's why people will still run out and back to Lagos.
Other state governments need develop their states as individuals cannot do this

Thank you, o! shocked If other states took the development of their capital and major towns seriously, the influx of people into Lagos would decrease. undecided

Look at Ogun state border towns like Alagbado, Sango Otta, Agbara etc. sad They witness the same heavy influx of traffic, too. Part of it is caused by the population spill from Lagos to those towns. But those areas are poorly planned and tightly packed.

The governor of Ogun has not thought of carrying out an urban renewal exercise, in those areas to make it conducive for the residents, and reduce the flow of traffic. angry

Warri would have been a relatively safe city rivalling Lagos
it has a port
And many Oil Coys were anchored there

But when the myopic, short sighted and stupid youths and people began there kidnaps; harassment and creating an atmosphere of chaos and insecurity
many fled to lagos
the companies fled to Lagos

Port Harcourt has taken that same self destructive route with "devee" ; harassment, cultism etc in the state
many have fled to Lagos and Abuja as well.
now port Harcourt is quick descending into a poohole

Kano and Kaduna would have easily been rivals to Lagos
But ethni religious crisis and violence have made many flee Kano and Kaduna to Abuja and some to Lagos
assuming Kano and Kaduna were not time bombs, many youths would have been moving there as an alternative to Lagos as was done in the 1980s

what about onitsha?
onitsha used to be a nest of vipers
kidnapping
robberies
etc
our people fled to Lagos
built homes and opened their businesses in Alaba

tho now things have improved greatly and peoole are now moving to onitsha
even night life and shoprite and other businesses for leisure like that are springing up
would this have been the case 15 years ago?

what of Aba being a cesspit ruined by successive state govt there?

Lagos is receiving all these crowd and investment because of the relative safety (I said relative) and businesses are setting up there, and if course the relative tolerance
it has created opportunities for many

But the moment Lagos adopts the self destructive path other cities have adopted in Nigeria
people and businesses will flee to Abuja

so before we talk
we need to go to the root of the matter
to understand why Lagos is congested.

not all the emotional excuses some are giving

Thank you for this beautiful analysis! You said it all, and you said it well.... cheesy

Pato5:
I agree with u but developing other states takes determination and commitment from those states so till that happens let Lagos stakeholders work to make Lagos better.

Exactly! But the governors of other states are not willing to put in the hard work that is needed to develop their states. Many collect allocations and it disappears into thin air. Others frustrate any private initiative at development because of their petty myopic mindset. May God save us all. sad

So long as the Onne, Warri, Calabar and other sea and river Ports are not fully functional, Murtala Mohammed international Airport remains the primary hub for airlines coming into Nigeria, the railway isn't fully functional, this overcrowding and traffic congestion issue will remain perpetual.

Lagos has been structured to retain almost all the economic headquarters in the country and this is one of the consequences, others include;

Perpetual Pollution issues
High Accommodation costs
Man made disasters etc

Onne port is fully functional. Please don't mislead people. After Tincan, Onne has the next highest volume of shipping traffic in Nigeria.

This thread is evidence that we all bleed red.

Lagos traffic doesn't care. It takes no prisoners. Everyone here agrees about this - apart from a few professional trolls who tried to muddy the waters with their tribal nonsense.

It is a multi-faceted problem - which will need a multi-pronged solution set. Sadly, powerful vested interests and good old fashioned incompetence will make sure the problem remains unsolved - even unto the generation after the next.
