For the fear of mistaken identity and false accusations. Many innocent people have been lynched mistakenly. It is better to handover criminals to the police.

My elder bro was almost lynched in Ekpoma after a guy accused him of stealing his penis. He was lucky the police arrived before he was burnt as tires and fuel were already available. 2 days later the family of the accuser came and apologized that their son has a mental disorder and he has done similar to someone else before. Instead of the police to take my bro to the hospital immediately they locked him in the cell with his injuries. One of my uncle went for his bail and he was taken to UBTH for treatment.
