First of all, don't say most. Say 'some' rather.
Secondly, everyone is born with his or her natural strength. Being a soldier doesn't change that, so there is nothing special or alarming in a soldier losing a hand to hand combat.

They are called the Armed forces for a reason. They are trained to be Armed.
If you are given a gun and you are asked to face a soldier who is also armed with a gun, bro.. I assure you that in 30 seconds, he will quench you.

If you go into a closed combat armed and up against a trauned soldier.. bro, I can assure you that the soldier will disarm you and use your gun on you.

It doesn't matter how you do it,the only way to cheat this exercise is to do it fast and doing it fast is the best way to kickstart your body.and you need to inhale as you push up so your muscle can have sufficient oxygen to push your limits,and weight coiling does not help you when it comes to push ups the muscles involved are both different.
