Good day fam, it's a bit difficult surviving as a journalist here in the state I actually reside. Most journalists aren't on the payroll, but we have no option because valuable jobs are a bit scarce.

So I'd like to ask newspaper journalists in house, how exactly do you make your earnings? Few journalists I've come across hides their own means like their lives depends on it, anyways it could be ethical or not, it doesn't matter as long as you make good amount of money to survive in this harsh economy. Please help, a brother oh.

How much you make will depend on what media market you're in, your specific job and how much experience you have.

Also and will I say sadly, many newspapers across the country are in financial trouble and have been forced to lay off journalists, so at least for the next few years, salaries are likely to remain stagnant or even fall.

What I would advice is that you develop yourself...become a genius in your field and give your best whenever your services are required. With time the scretes on how to make a living from your profession would be unveiled before your eyes.

I am also a journalist but it has never EVER crossed my mind to work in a media house. Well, i suggest you try freelance writing till you find a better jobs cuz i wont lie to you that working in media houses will pay you well. Even top editors in some media houses dont earn much and you will work hard! Had my taste of it during my undergraduate IT days.

Well in other countries, yes. But Nigeria, no. How many people even buy newspapers these days? Even my elderly dad now reads news with his smart phone when there power issues. Worse still these newspapers cant go digital. It seems strange to them. Their online platforms are laughable.
