Fully Funded Postgraduate: Please Share Your Experience. by MaCollins1(m): 8:36pm On Aug 14, 2019
Good day everyone. Please I need advice, help and information from gurus in the house. I am a second class upper ( C.G.P.A of 4.49) graduate of Biochemirtry from a state university in nigeria. i wish to futher my education outside nigeria especially in canada, but i am really stuck right now because of financial issues.

i want to start applying to schools next year, i have heard of scholarship programs, but i lost faith in them because i applied for alot during my undergraduate years and never got any.

Please gurus in the house that have/are studying abroad and have passed through the process should help a brother and share personal experiences on how you obtained scholarship that covered both tuition and living expenses. Links to scholarship opportunities would also be very much appreciated. Have a blessed day everyone!

For schools in Canada; almost all the masters by research programs are fully funded, though much work lies in getting a supervisor. If you'll be going for a masters by coursework, then forget scholarship or any form of funding as most of the programs are hardly funded. So, if you want to continue your studies in Canada;
-decide on an area of research
-Google a good number of Canadian schools
-find a supervisor that shares the same research interests as you
-contact the supervisor
It's not easy finding a supervisor but you have to keep sending those mails to as many as you can come across.
Good luck.

You can also try other scholarships like chevening, Commonwealth, Commonwealth shared, PTDF, etc. Though these scholarships are competitive, they are not unobtainable. You just need to package your applications with awards, publications, etc.

Probably, when you are applying for visa but for now, no. Just focus on getting a supervisor that will accept you, although, you need money for an application fee when you must have gotten a supervisor. The application fee is usually CAD100 and you'll also take care of your flight ticket should you be admitted.

There are other scholarships you can try out: Australian Research Training Program-it's a fully funded research scholarship, Chinese Government scholarship, Korean Government scholarship: all these scholarships are awarded to a large number each year.

Wow! You're good to go! Applications for PTDF scholarship starts around December, be on the look out! You should also try Commonwealth shared scholarship next year: go through the requirements for previous application and prepare your application before hand (the courses may differ next year but are still within the same faculty). Federal government is the nominating agency for Commonwealth scholarship (this is different from Commonwealth shared scholarship where UK universities are the nominating agency. You would have gained admission before your application will be considered) and I doubt the credibility of the process as there were always negative feedbacks from candidates that participated in the interview process but I wouldn't want to discourage you. You should try it too, usually opens between December to February of the succeeding year.

Oh great, thanks so much!

I just want the breakdown of costs please, for @least 3 different schools that offer MSc in Cyber Security so I can compare costs.

Thank you!

MaCollins1.

Congrats on your CGPA and publications. You have all that is needed to get a fully funded scholarship for MSc and PhD.
In addition to what everyone has said.
Below is my own advice. It is a "Do It Yourself" thing grin

Write a personal statement not more than 400 words and introduce yourself, your undergraduate institution name,
country, course, cgpa(please don't mention second class or whatever, just write it as 4.49/5.00 and also in percentage 89.8%) ,your past research work, your publications and awards including names of journals, volume and pages of published work, any conferences attended, any software training you know in your discipline, Your hard and soft skills, Postgraduate research interest, how you intend to use your previous experience towards your new research, your present work, when you intend to start your postgraduate (mention spring 2020 or Fall 2020, depending on what opening they have) future career plan like going for PhD and becoming Emeritus.

Search for any 40 different universities each in Canada, US, and maybe 20 in UK
Click on your department

Click on "People and Faculty"

Check their individual Profs/Drs. Page to know their research interests/specialization

Copy their mails and name

Send them your written statement by personalizing it to them like...

Dear Prof. Nairaland,

My name is abc, (Add the body of your 400 words statement here).

I wish to be your Graduate Teaching or Research Assistant.

I have attached my certifcate, publications, awards certificate, link to my publications to this mail.(please remember to scan and send)

Thank you in anticipation for your response.

Warm regards,
Your first name then surname
Email address
Active phone number +23470...

Step 2.

After a positive response, reply by asking of the funding package available for your studies while doing your MSc/PhD studies as a Graduate Assistant.

Pray along with it and have a positive mind.

I wish you all the very best bro.

I just want the breakdown of costs please, for @least 3 different “affordable” schools in Canada that offer MSc in Cyber Security so I can compare prices.

Costs like,

- student visa fee
- tuition fee
- average accommodation costs
- any other fees I need to pay

I want the information for each respective school plus the name of the school so I know how to plan. Are you available to chat via email? Kindly reply to my email here: sinatra047@gmail.com

Thank you!

If you believe they will deny you visa then that wish will come to fulfilment and if you believe otherwise, It will also come to reality. Life is all about been positive. Some will pass and some will fail. So choose your thought wisely.
I have said all you have to do. Do it and get back to me here once the Profs have responded back.
Have a good day and success in your career.
