Can someone who will be 23 next year August apply?

You can apply. I will just advise you submit your application after your birthday for it to carry 22 as your current age.

He can apply for both but if in doubt call these numbers to clarify, 08179269294 and 08109959294.
According to them, once you enter January 2019, your age is +1 no matter when you mark your previous birthday. Therefore, if you are not celebrating your 19yr/22yr birthday or will be 28yr/32yr (as applies in SSC/DSSC respectively) in 2019 you are not qualified by age.

The age issue have denied me a lot, especially in the military for years. I used to argue before I learnt my lesson in hard way. It was too late last year before I clarified and realized I've been doing wrong thing.

Meanwhile, don't be in hurry to apply/submit your application because you may not get through those numbers easily but I tell you, they pick calls and entertain questions and you will be glad you did.

Take your time, go through your application again and again. They are not taking late comers. The last person to apply may be shortlisted and the 1st may not and it can be other way round.
As the general saying that experience is the best teacher. I have learnt my lesson and I don't want my conscience to be asking me why didn't I share the information with others. My conscience is clear now and I will advise others that have one or two info that can benefit others to do same by sharing it. Don't ask anybody to private chat you. If anyone ask you to PM or whatever, be careful so you don't fall pray. I know of so many experience applicant here that can be of use but are just holding back because they don't want to be insulted by newbees.

Take note of the bolded.
This is my one cent advise & I'm not here to argue with anybody.

I would like to, but it's more of administrative issues of the force, not really about the registration process(I already know about that). So I don't want to derail too much for people who are here for the main registration sort.

But if you are ok with it, I can go ahead?

So some relatives of mine in the Airforce were telling me about how it is almost impossible for a short service combatant in the army to get promoted, they said even if I get selected, I'd be lucky to even retire with Major or Lt. Colonel. I want to know how true it is, because I am aware that they could be speaking from bias of interforce rivalry.

Let me help answer this question.... We have short service commissioned officers who are major generals... We had one COAS in the past... The thing is truthfully conversion to RC is by slot and not so much.... Not everybody would get conversion.... Without conversion 15years in service is certain and that's major or Lt Col.... It all boils down to you and how you chase your success in the military.... Just know RC boys have an edge in everything tho.... That's the plain truth.

It's false, extremely false!!!. As long as you pass your courses and age is on ur side you can reach the peak of ur career though there is a little politics played at the top most atimes it's struggle for appointments involving RC not necessarily ur career growth
The current Air chief is a DSSC officer.

My sources told me that politics in the army is quite heavy(than other arms of the service), that SSC guys are deliberately suppressed to pave way for more RC promotions.

True!! but an SSC officer has held the position of COAS in the past. Anything can happen, one should more concerned about discharging his duties efficiently not the little power play amongst officers.
As it is now, there is no much diff in RC/SSC/DSSC all are going to the north east except female officers, that one na dole.
To those rushing to DSSC thinking it's just office work I just laff at them even Doctors sef are shipped enmass to the north east talkless of engineers, accounts etc

Mechanical engineering is a registered course with both NSE & COREN. But remember that some institutions are offering courses without COREN/NSE accreditation. So if the course was accredited at the time u were studying, you are good to go and been a registered member is an added advantage but not necessary. If that would be use to screen applicants, those passing out of NYSC won't qualified cos there is now way they would be registered member of NSE/COREN.

Just pray that all indices always work for you. I've seen Regular officers that were retired prematurely as captain/major/Lt-Col. Any rank from major is politics. Just get enlisted first then your conversion first as see out things play out.

You are right. I know a member (Medical Doctor) of NA DSSC CORSE 22 that fell in the NE and also one air force DSSC member that also fell in NE last year some months after his wife delivered a bouncing baby boy. Friends found it difficult to break the news for the wife. So know what you are getting into. Don't let unemployment push you around.

To be sincere with you, your name will not surface among those that would be consider for shortlistment. You will do yourself a good if you can make it 27 by this September.
Your case is just like what pushed me to dig further last year. I argued with a friend and put in for last DSDC with 30yrs when the instruction says between 20 and 30 years. I went ahead and submitted the application thinking that I have perfected everything. When I discussed with a Lieutenant friend of mine how I filled my form, he told me I was over-age and I argued having been 99% sure of been shortlisted. So I decided to call those numbers and was told categorically that I was not qualify that I would be 31yrs by that January 2019 despite the fact that I just marked my 30th late 2018. That was how I knew the reason why I was told I was over-age the last time I faced Air force selection board. I thought the board secretary didn't like me when he told the chairman that the candidate is over-age because they said 29yrs I I just marked my 29yr before I went for the interview but I was wrong. He never hate me. I should have made my enquiries then but I still do strong head and put in for NA the following year. I want you all to learn from my experience that's why I'm sharing it for all of you. Thanks God Army increased the age to 32 this time. I will try my luck for the last time since 2011 that I've been applying.
