I had a somewhat funny and somewhat harrowing experience with the people of the underwold today. I am must definitely happy to be alive and able to share it and I hope you can learn one or two things from it.

In the early hours of today approximately 10am, I was at Gbagada bustop in front of dominos pizza waiting for a bus to Obalande. A bus without a conductor pulled up, I didn't hear the destination the driver was calling so I enquired and he instead asked me harshly "where you sef dey go?" I replied "Obalende" and he asked me to enter (1st red flag). There were about 6 passengers in the bus but he pulled out of the bustop after I entered and hit the express and asked a passenger to help close the door (2nd reg flag). This prompted me to look around the bus. There was a huge lady in the front seat beside the driver dressed like she was going to some owambe party, beside me was a young lady backing a sleeping baby who looked like she was going to the market. There was another elderly man who looked like a peasant labourer, a teenage girl and about 2 other young men dressed causally, the driver himself seemed to be a man in his early 50's. However, the sight of the young mother and the sleeping infant calmed my nerves instantly. The driver requested for the fare while sounding the usual "No change o", I paid for my fare and I could see notes in his hand like any other hustling driver. This further calmed my nerves.

After I paid for the fare, the driver began addressing the elderly passenger in what seemed to be an unfinished argument (All these happened within a minute I entered the bus). The driver was shouting that the elderly man entered the bus with a bag and he refused to tell anybody what was inside the bag or allow anyone touch the bag. He was saying that if the police should randomly search his bus and find anytbi g incriminating in that bag, the man can easily run away and leave him in soup. He was swearing that he will deal with the man by reporting him to the first police patrol team he comes across. The driver turned to other passengers that that is how evil men like him put innocent people in trouble but the table have been turned and we will all be his witness. The huge lady in front began to mediate and asked the elderly man to tell us the truth or let us search the bag. The man said he will say the truth. We all began to listen. He said he worked for a rich man for the past 6yrs at Abeokuta as a domestic staff but was never paid for one day. He got an opportunity yesterday to settle himself and he took the madam's gold jewellery and a lot of money from the boss. Everybody screamed. The driver instantly pulled over out of the express, by this time we were just under the new garage bridge heading to the 3rd mainland bridge. The driver turned and asked the elderly man how much was in the bag and the man began to visibly shake and stammer, he replied it was over a million dollars, another shout erupted from the passengers, one asked how much it was in naira, he said around 495million naira. The driver began to shout that he has been vindicated. Meanwhile immediately I heard 495million naira, I forced the door open and came down, they didn't wait and the bus moving nearly made fall, before I looked back, they were already on the bridge speeding to third mainland bridge. There was no police van aroundto report to. I checked myself, about #1,500 was missing from my pocket.

I climbed the bridge and continued my journey to Obalande, the devil is a liar grin grin grin, I must reach Obalende before 11am and I did cheesy

I think their plan was to lure me to their hideout with the promise of a share of 495million and only God knows what would have befallen me there.

Ancient format. I don enter their hands two times in the space of three months, and after that I had to pray to God to put such evil people out of my way. The first time I told the fools to drop me or else we will all die on the road that day (we die here! tongue grin). The second time I just sat wearily until I got to ikeja and ordered them to stop. When they asked me for the tfare, I barked "I'm not paying!!", spraying spittle and shaking my head vigorously until my glasses sat askew on my face. When dem see sey na mad woman dem carry, they quietly dropped me at Ikeja Along and sped off.

That night when I got home I asked God to keep these idiots out of my way. Six years on I haven't had an encounter with their ilk ever since.
