KngGezy:Please how has he done well so far? Has he delivered what he promised with his boss? Is there any other yardstick for saying that someone has done well ![]() Are you just a mediocre person yourself? www.nairaland.com/attachments/9760331_7983202images1jpegd981a8b1fae6a56cbfd792de36a93677_jpeg_jpeg05f2a37058f47ccd54d587d7ac1e34f4 www.nairaland.com/attachments/3492308_buhari20000mwelectricitypromise_jpegb3d308b82b0aaf0f68a6c50acecfbb5c |

KngGezy:1.The problem with the Power sector is simple. Price controls. Because of that DISCOS cannot make enough money to accept the power the GENCOS supply. And as a result the power sector is underfunded. Plus, investors are not going to come and invest in an economy where there are price controls. They cannot make a profit. And no bank is going to lend to DISCOS and GENCOS...because price controls mean that the companies cannot make a profit to pay back lent money. The problem is, any suggestion that we should allow DISCOS increase prices is met with 'WE are so poor'. 'DISCOS are greedy', etc. At the end of the day, funding never happens. 2.We spend N2 trillion on an unsustainable fuel subsidy. Meanwhile, other countries that are poorer than us pay higher for fuel. And a large chunk of the subsidsed fuel is smuggled to other countries to sell for a profit. (All African countries sell fuel at prices above N300 per liter). If we removed fuel subsidy, we would get enough investment in the sector...which means more jobs. The money saved can be used by the Works minsitry for infrastructure...like roads, housing, etc. Especially since oil prices have been falling since 2014. And we aren't earning enough from oil...or agriculture. So, the money for new infrastructure projects has to come from somewhere....and removing fuel subsidy is the only way (This is where GEJ was right about something...and the people in APC now joined millions of Nigerians to oppose his fuel subsidy removal plan in 2012...see where we are now). Fashola's issues have more to do with lack of available funding, and less to do with his poor perfomance. Yes, I have defended an APC man, but even if PDP was in place, I would say the same thing. We are wasting money on subsides. Plus the subsides are preventing much needed investment that could have changed things. There was no subsidy in the GSM sector. No price controls. Poeple called Obasanjo and the GSM companies wicked. But investment flowed...and jobs were created. Now...GSM is growing...because zero price controls. |
