Let me try rephrase: A lot more than 80 people are involved in scam and using vehicle purchase to launder the proceed, Nigerians and non-Nigerians.
One of the major reason I am reluctant to stock almighty pure-water Corolla 03-07, you will see high auction participation for the vehicle thus sold at ridiculous price, and conversely selling lower than cost price in Naija: scammers only care about quick gratification (launder the stolen funds) not profit.

It is not yet uhuru; vehicle-financed scam, nay fraud won't stop with The 80 arrest. A lot more still needs to be done, most especially by our society.

Problem with scammers is that most know nothing about cyber security and the cardinal rule which states that money is traceable as long as it is in digital format. The moment the security forces can connect your name to money transfer, they can indict you on security fraud, money muling.

The Russians and Chinese fraudsters get away with fraud because much of it is State sponsored and no wants to escalate such an issue to the point of conflict.

The swift and Iban numbers used to transfer money overseas has its server in Belgium (or Zurich) so all transfers can easily be monitored...

You can only run but cant hide.

Totally agree with you sir, the car sells on auction for 1600 - 22000$ excluding buyer and internet fee, now In Nigeria some even sell for 1.7/1.8M which makes me wonder how manage, I avoid those stupid Toyota’s like plague.
There is nothing stupid about Toyota, it's uncalled for, i understand d frustration shipping in cars at high cost and seeing it selling at lower cost, but alot of factors are involved.
Toyota as a brand have established reliability in the heart of Nigerians & most part of d world. Everywhere u go u see Toyota cars it is because they are reliable, that is why demand is high, reason fraudsters are shipping them in. Are they now stupid for their reliability?

Often times the russians and western scammers and hackers are better educated than their nigerian couterparts, and they would rather use cryptocurrency for trade and very powerful vpn to mask there location, but Nigerians generally believe they are invisible or lucky not knowing that when the government decides to have your time, they would get you

Lol...How much una wan make them sell tokunbo cars before? 10million? It's like some of you live in Gabon or Congo.
Ship your own toyota tokunbo car and sell for 50million na. Nobody go tell you before your head correct. Go to auto section and see how your friends are having long threads of 20 pages to sell ordinary 1.8m tokunbo cars without any reasonable reply. They post ad that remains there for over 4 months typing 'available ' 'clean ride', ' buy and drive' everyday .
Una go learn.

How is he even sure it is fraudsters that are shipping them. What evidences does he have to show? What if the shippers are getting better deals and not as greedy as some of their counterparts who want to make outrageous profit on the sale of one car. It's business and if you are not after outrageous profits, you can sell more cars and make moderate and reasonable profits which will favour you in the long run.

VPN are not bullet proof as they can be hacked by security officials and network traffic monitored. The only thing that is bullet proof is crypto currency, for now.

Theoretically one can mask money from one compromised bank acct to another, then skim the persons card then cashout then exchange into bitcoin then recash in a foreign country. But unless you have an insider in the bank, banks bar such transactions until acct owner comes to branch with ID and explains the source of income thus confirmimg they are responsible for it.

This is why most fraudsters prefer the most direct route to cashout, which is usually the most traceable route.

Honestly my brother
I didn't just want to go into that area
I have also shipped in cars
I have seen same op selling cars higher than normal valued price because his source maybe different, but no one opened a thread, when they sell cars at higher amount they don't open thread, but they don't want anyone to sell cheap. The word CHEAP here is subjective, what may satisfy Mr A as profit, may not satisfy op as profit. That does not mean Mr A sold it cheap. Supply source varies and affects the prices of final sales. Lower sale prices may have nothing to do with fraudsters as being portrayed here but the contact you have and information. If i am quick to get info on distress sale, i can sell cheap because i got it cheap, reason i said alot of factors are involved in my earlier post & not necessarily fraud.

Of course.. Most of the sites that accepted Credit cards are now using vbv which require more informations about the card owners.

Most of the fraudsters are car dealers in Nigeria

Na still sanity

I shook this table on my whatsapp status around 11 a.m yesterday and it got people talking. What actually prompted it is a result of a deep research I did on a particular unscrupulous car dealer; it is so pathetic that outcomes revealed that he was a yahoo boy and still probably a yahoo man.

He still works hand in hand with those fraudsters home and abroad to make cars/vehicles available in his car dealership business. Despite they get majority of the funds they use cheaply and through fraudulent means, they still price their packaged cars/vehicles way far higher than those of other car dealers. #Greed #Thieves #Fraudsters #Rippers #IfYouKnowYouKnow
