Wadume: DHQ panel concludes report, soldiers risk dismissal

The seven -man Joint Investigative Panel set up by the Defence Headquarters , Abuja, to probe the killing of three policemen in Ibi , Taraba State , has concluded its report and would submit it to the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Abayomi Olonisakin , on Monday .

Top military sources said the report was believed to have indicted some army and police personnel as well as a few civilians, noting that the officers and soldiers would likely face court -martial and dismissal, “ going by their level of culpability .”

The panel concluded its work on Friday after sitting for three days at the Defence Intelligence Agency , Abuja , during which it grilled army officers, soldiers , policemen and the suspected kidnap kingpin , Hamisu Wadume.

The Joint Investigative Panel , which is led by Rear Admiral Ibikunle Olaiya , has top officers drawn from the police , army, navy , air force , the Department of State Services and the DIA .

A source close to the panel had said the officers cross- examined Wadume, after he had earlier made some confessions in a police video, where he indicted army officers and soldiers over his escape.

The police had on Monday night arrested Wadume at a hideout in the Layin Mai Allo Hotoro area of Kano State , following a manhunt by the police special forces and Intelligence Response Team members in Taraba and the surrounding states.

In the video released by the police on
Twitter , Wadume had said in Hausa , “ My name is Hamisu Bala Wadume. The police came to arrest me . When they arrested me , the army chased after them and opened fire . From there , they ( soldiers ) took me to their headquarters and cut off my handcuffs and released me . I went back to my house , but the police came to re -arrest me . ”

A source in the DHQ told our correspondent on Friday that the panel had concluded its work and culpable soldiers would not escape court- martial and dismissal .

The source did not know the number of officers and soldiers indicted by the report .

The source said , “ The panel had been in Abuja for a few days . They sat at the Defence Intelligence Agency . The panel had put its report together . They are going to submit by Monday back to the CDS .

“ All the officers and soldiers identified have already been grilled. The outcome and culpability of the personnel will determine their court -martial and dismissal . But if they are deeply involved , their trial is automatic. ”

Military sources said that the custom was that the panel report would be approved by the CDS , and recommendations made before the details could be made open .

thanks for this. The issue we have about Nigeria security men is extra judicial killing. I remember seeing a group of young men arrested in Benin for snatching a car. How come they were shit dead and no one complained? But when it got to the police, everyone is complaining

I only pity the poor policemen who actually thought that Nigeria security forces are actually fighting crime without realizing that we bade farewell to those days long long ago.

In today's Nigeria, criminals are celebrated, those who should fight crime see their job as an avenue to enrich themselves and live far above their earnings. Public officers in the security system are competing wealth with politicians and calling it sharing of national cake.

It's so bad that only petty criminals are being convicted. As it stands, any criminal who is worth 1 million naira can hardly be convicted except he does not know the right place to go.
Even in checkpoints, they only do stop and search for vehicles with less prestige while ignoring the real criminals in luxurious tinted glass vehicles.
Crime and killing of innocent people has become a regular and non surprising order in our roster. So many crimes have been committed in this country which the perpetrators where actually apprehended and deserved public execution or death sentence as prescribed by the law but the whole issue will just boil down to keeping hardened criminals who had confessed to numerous killings of innocent citizens in luxurious cells to attend never ending court judgment until nothing will be heard about such criminals again.

Otherwise tell me why on earth someone like Evans is still alive and even bragging about his rights being violated?
Where is Oguche, the guy who was arrested and confessed to be responsible for nyanya bomb blast?

What happened to the cases of all the high profile criminals? Why isn't there a public awareness of how their conviction or case ended, at least to serve as deterrent to teeming criminals?
Well, the love for wealth of most public officers has killed the dutiful aspect of their minds.

Until we restructure our minds to know that humanity should be placed high above every other thing in the hierarchy of life, the peace and stability we crave can only be read on pages and not in reality.

This is exactly the truth. The order given by the army captain to his men was that the men were actually kidnappers in police uniform and that the soldiers should get them down. Personnaly, I think only the army captain should bear the full brunt of the law, because he gave the order. Soldiers are zombies that carry out order given to them by their superior fully, even if the order was given to kill their mother, they would carry it out.

Numerous evidence and several eye witnesses has proved this narrative of yours is not true, even the culprit Wadume himself has implicated some Army officers that were culpable. Rules of engagement was also not followed.

why would the kidnapped be on handcuffs?

Go and do your findings, the same wadume was known by locals to be a political thug and philantropist and not a kidnapper. That is why the locals were in his side and the army people. If it were not for the fact that the story turned upside down, I am sure the police would have just collected some bribe from him and release him again.
