The EU wants a cut in the rich mineral deposits the Amazon has to offer and not because they give a flying Fck about the Amazon ecosystem.

There was no demand. Macron made a statement, in which he said "the Amazon forest is of INTERNATIONAL IMPORTANCE & should be TREATED as an [/b]international resource.[b]

Well meaning words, yes, but easily misconstrued.

Then he went further to say that the wildfire(s) is an international threat which can only be quelled by international efforts.

Here, a bit of French coc.kiness. And subtle feelers(I must confess).

You are probably not aware of when Macro, in Eco-warrior mode, demanded in a speech presented at a summit that the Amazon must be granted international protection and independence from any state control akin to Antarctica.

The Brazilian govt referred to Macron's demands as reverse colonialism.
