The same way they told us that they will build Enugu International airport to Abuja airport standard, re-open the airport before December 2019, and divert Enugu bound passengers on Ethiopian Airline to Port Harcourt Intl. airport after they close the AIIA. None of which has happened nor will happen under the current regime's total war against Ndigbo. Please lets wise up and atleast stop acting like we are so easy to fool

The FGN under Babatunde Fashola is trying with the second Niger Bridge and fixing the deplorable federal expressway between Onitsha and Enugu which people like Ekweremadu in his 10 years at the senate never even bothered to do anything about - instead he was more concerned about buying 22 houses around the world. As for the Enugu International Airport which was made international by Stella Oduah, that was cosmetics over functionality. Airlines have voiced concern over the runway and encroachment on airport land. Hadi Sirika is doing the right thing because safety is the first criteria in aviation.

As for Ndigbo, frankly we need to hold our political leaders accountable before pointing fingers. People are complaining about the FGN but what has Anambra state government done in terms of infrastructure, services?




Look at the filth of marketplaces, streets and gutters. Look at the chaos of keke napep and all kinds of vehicles littering the road. Is that Buhari's fault?

Nigeria Has A New International Airport In Asaba

Asaba, the capital city of Delta State in Nigeria, is ready to receive international flights again after the Nigerian Government gave it the tick of approval. According to a report in CH-Aviation, the Government has fast-tracked this approval. Hadi Sirika, Nigeria’s Aviation Minister is reported as saying the airport met “requirements” and that the Government did not want to wait any longer.

Aero Contractors is one of a couple of airlines currently flying into Asaba.

Asaba is located nearly 500 kilometres due east of Lagos. A census held 13 years ago put the local population at about half a million people. Whilst Asaba has long had an airport, it was previously a ramshackle affair and most locals used Benin City. The ‘new’ airport was rebuilt between 2008 and 2011 by the state government.

While the idea of the airport was fine – connecting Asaba locals to wider Nigeria and the world, it was also very much a vanity project. And like so many infrastructure projects, the building process was torturous. Once some initial flights began in 2011, Delta State Governor was reported in FlashPoint saying;

“I am so happy with this achievement. My dream has come true and all those who criticized the project will now shut up their mouth”.

A difficult time for Asaba Airport
The first customer at Asaba Airport was Overland Airlines. Commercial flights commenced from Asaba in July 2011. At the time, Delta State’s Commissioner for Information, Mr. Christopher Ogeah said;

“Overland Airline is going to be the premier operator of this airport at the beginning and I can assure you that other Nigerian indigenous airlines are also going to join them and make this a lucrative route for the airlines.”

It didn’t quite work out that way. Reportedly, by 2013, Asaba Airport was doing steady business. The Delta State Government was quoted as saying the airport was handling on average 260 flights a month and 6,880 passengers a month. At the time, both Overland Airlines and Arik Airlines linked Asaba with Lagos and Abuja.

But in 2015, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority stepped in and downgraded the airport’s capacity. According to The Guardian, the rundown runway, taxiways, lack of perimeter fence and poor personnel training meant larger jets like 737s could no longer use the airport, limiting scheduled passenger services to Overland Airlines’ ATR72s.

Restoration work at the airport

In 2016, work commenced on restoring the runway to a decent condition. Turboprop flights were able to keep operating for most of the time the work took place. The runway is 3.4 kilometres, theoretically able to take a 747. Like regional Governments everywhere, the Delta State Government had big ambitions for their airport.

Now the Nigerian Government is satisfied, the airport is able to safely get back to business and land jet aircraft. Whether the airport attracts any international services beyond ad hoc charters and publicity flights is another matter.

EgyptAir had a short-lived service between Asaba and Cairo but that appears to have been discontinued in March 2019. The primary customers now appear to be Aero Contractors and Air Peace who fly to Lagos and Abuja. Overland no longer flys in.

It has been a tempestuous short life for Asaba International Airport, but Africa is in dire need of good aviation infrastructure. Issues with funding, governance, and management have held Asaba back. If these issues can be sorted, Asaba International has half a chance of developing into a decent airport.

ANSG should shelve its white elephant idea of building an airport at Oba or wherever. Asaba is less than 20 minutes from Onitsha, Enugu is 1 hour from Awka. Spend the money on making its cities function like proper cities.

ASABA International Airport is the most modern and most decent airport today in Nigeria - FACT!

It also has a runway of 3.5 KM by 60 Meters with taxiways. The same length of Frankfurt International airport in Germany !
Therefore, Boeing 747 or other large body airplanes can comfortably land and take off at Asaba International airport.

Even MMA Lagos cannot compete with ASABA international airport in modernity and world class facilities.

I don't know why our governments can not replicate this hospital prototype in each of the local governments in the form of a general hospital. Instead you see obsolete 19th century buildings being built in this era as hospital.

Honestly it's just unfortunate. Sometimes I wonder if our governors don't learn anything when they travel out of Africa because, I wonder how a reasonable leader will travel to cities in US, UK, Germany etc and see how things are done and then return to Nigeria to build the usual mediocre 1970 structures in this era. Even if we can't replicate the world class structures in developed countries at least we can start with something that looks decent and modern like this Obi Jackson's Children Hospital but no, we must continue to build our usual nonsense structures.
I want you to just take your time and access some state owned and run schools in the east and see what I'm talking about. I saw pictures of some of the so-called new government schools built in Abia and I was I disappointed. The new schools are just the usual bungalows with metal windows, the only new thing there was that they used aluminium roofs instead of the outdated zinc roofs, outside that nothing else is new. No landscaping, the environment was filled with clay and overgrown grass lol.

Work Picks up Speed on the Biggest Conference Center in the South East.

Construction work has gathered momentum on the International Conference Center, Awka.
A recent visit to the construction site raises hope on the likely delivery of the project on schedule.

The Center is likely to become the biggest Conference Center in the South East with a sitting capacity of 5000 people at a time. It is one of the major legacy projects of the Governor Willie Obiano administration.

On completion, it will have a grand entrance foyer with atrium, collapsible grand auditorium, exhibition hall, meeting rooms, green room, workshop/seminar areas for professionals, an expansive parking lot and a magnificent outdoor scenery.
