You are very correct. For the fact that some people have the means and spend much on there projects doesn't mean there are no affordable means of construction, especially for we the low income earners. However, many estimates are exaggerated. The attached project just got to lintel and we are approaching 2m, even with the full reinforced concrete ground beam

I used roughly 20 bags for foundation work.....65 bags for blocks to lintel and beyond(2 coaches)....

Got free sharp sand from site....3 loads of stone for foundation(10k each)....3 loads of gravel(12k each)...40k for labour on foundation....130k for building labour...60k for iron rods....10k for lintel and pillar woods( got some free woods on site)...12k for sand filling...15k for iron work by welder....got a further 10 bags of cement for later works....cost of land is 200k(half plot) plus 20k for commission....5k given to lawyer who prepared papers(he's a father figure to me, a church member)....already done with soakaway(15k)

Why a bricklayer sir I suppose one of the reasons for this thread is to promote professionalism, buy professional ideas and advice for free and to have value for your money after all.

I must say that bricklayers, as well as other workforce in a construction site will always have a need for an engineer not minding how small the project might be.

If you can't pay a QS please make sure an engineer handles if possible all your consideration hence construction is involved.
Non-professional or quackery should be discouraged.

One of the reasons why professionals are not frequenting the thread as lamented by some of us some weeks ago is actually because of this reason. Someone will go and conclude an error with an inexperienced worker and come here to throw the error on the house? You have already compromised quality sir...

You have to measure the perimeter of the building to give you the accurate quotation or post the building plan
