Hello Nairalanders. I'm a project manager with about 15 years experience in Construction and Real Estate. I wanna ask this pertinent question. Why do foreign Artisans almost always do a better job than my Nigerian counterparts. What kind of orientation do they receive that makes them different from their Nigerian counterparts. I have a group of workers from Benin and Togo and the quality of work they do for me is mind boggling. I remember I came to a site I was managing and very pleased with a particular plastering job. I was looking forward to commencing the painting. But Marcel my lead bricklayer from Lome felt differently. He wanted to redo a stretch of wall. In my eyes the wall was perfect. Marcel called me and said "Oga stand here... Oya now look am from this angle." After several attempts I was finally able to see what Marcel was talking about. My people that was a negligible error, invisible to only but the keenest of eyes but Marcel Wasn't having any of it... In the end I gave him the go ahead to redo it. They strive for perfection. I. Must say those guys have used the quality of their work to open doors for Me.
If there's anyone on here who needs this squad from Lome to handle your projects and renovations kindly drop me a message and let's take it from there. You'd be very glad you did.

Yes they learn it from childhood. In fact Marcel told me that in Togo if u do a shoddy job for a client and you've been paid for it you could find yourself been arrested by the police.
Nigerian workers go dey ur site, instead of focusing on the job at hand they will be targeting how to abandon your job and go and do other jobs sharp sharp. At the end none of both jobs will look be sharp.

On the plastering job, 100% right with Togo guys... I speak fluent French and I engage Togo guys to do plastering... But when it comes to carpentering, form work or base constructions,
Nigerian carpenters can invent and re invent. Just get a good one.

Maybe I'll be needing a French interpreter soon.
Yes Nigerian carpenters are quite good. I have a good one I work with but the guy is like a ghost. His attitude can be a huge turn off. I prefer workers who are reliable
