I just hope he weighed his options well before shutting down. And hopefully, he won't invest everything he's got in these new ventures that may not be as far-reaching as the first. Goals are great but they must be planned carefully.

That's not true. There are millions of average performing Nigerians based abroad. What do you call those ones that do waitress jobs abroad even with multiple university degrees? Abeg, check your facts before you conclude.

Because someone is a waiter or porter doesn't mean they are average. Circumstances may have been the cause of their present job.

Having said that, Nigeria's economy greatly benefits from their yearly £12 billion remittances as a result of their 'average performances'.

Dude, consumer robotics sector is an inherently challenging space. Reach robotics isn't the only one closing shop. Anki, creator of self-driving RC cars and the WALL-E-like robot buddy Cozmo, shut down in April. Jibo a social robot has shut down as well, you also have Mayfield Robotics, maker of Kuri, another social robot also went belly up.
The rule of market capitalism is no matter how impressive a piece of automation technology is, if it doesn't solve a clear problem or increase efficiency in a major way, it's not a very good product.
Take for example industrial robot in the manufacturing and automobile industry. When it was first introduced by GM in the 1950's, it did the job more efficiently than humans could and it was also a lot safer for workers -even in today's world it still provides a good go-to-market model. it solves a pressing problem efficiently and at a palatable price. The social robotics companies that have folded, however, are leaning into feature sets rather than problem-solving. When you look at other robots like washing machine, dish washer this automated a very onerous task.
Another consumer robots that has also recorded success is the irobot it automates an everyday task of vacuuming the floor. I don't need a hardware gaming robots when I have my PS4's or Xbox , I don't need a robot to keep me company or remind me of tasks to do my phone already does that. So unless a consumer robot automates an everyday task which i would rather not do it will be really hard to sustain a market for it.

Senseless talk. You still need to remember top richest people in Africa/Nigeria are dominated by Yoruba, I didn't see any Igbo there, that shows Yoruba knows how to make legit money and sustain it not ritual/robbery money that's common in the east.. Gbam!!!

You didn't read the kind of robotics he was into before commenting.
Its gaming robotics not just any kind of robotics.
Gaming robotics is an innovation into the gaming market

And I will advise each time you comment on an issue leave this your village people mentality out of it.
.
The guy simply said he wants to focus on something else.
Why is it hard for most of you to understand this.

Did Dangote to not leave the building industry(not totally) to focus on getting a refinery working?

Even Otedola I heard from a good source that he is about to invest heavily in the power sector.?
So, what is wrong in shifting focus.

Bros, abeg just carry your village people mentality go one side so make we see front.

Engineer Silas Adekunle, who is the highest paid Robotic Engineer in the world and also the founder of AR Robots Makers, has decided to shutdown his business operations in UK.

The Nigerian born Robotic Engineer shut down Reach Robotics, in Bristol, United Kingdom and this shocked his UK based robotics consumers. He said he’s going to focus on new things.

Adekunle made the announcement on LinkedIn. One of the Co-founders John Rees confirmed that “the decision has been made to close the business and appoint administrators, effective as of 02/09/2019,” according to a report by therobotreport.com.

Below is Adekunle’s LinkedIn post:

“Unfortunately, for Reach Robotics, in its current form at least, today marks the end of that journey.

“I am immensely proud of what we have achieved. Since founding Reach Robotics at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, we made huge strides in our technology both in terms of our hardware and app development. We took MekaMon from prototype to market, introduce the world to the first gaming robot with seamless AR integration, launched in dozens of territories and developed a unique education offering that will live on through many initiatives.

“This simply could not have happened without the highly skilled and creative people that have been part of the Reach Robotics journey. I speak for myself and my fellow co-founders Chris Beck and John Rees when I say it has been a privilege and we have no doubt that they will continue to innovate and enrich the sector. Personally, I am grateful for the experience, lessons learnt, the connections and the opportunity to inspire young people from under-represented backgrounds in STEM and entrepreneurship.

“I am thankful to everyone who has been a part of this journey, from my co-founders Chris and John, who have been there through thick and thin, to members of the management team who were supportive in the most difficult of times, Jonathan Quinn, Kathryn Green, Philip Green just to name a few.

“Thank you to all of our investors, advisers, mentors, family and friends over the years. Special thanks to UWE, Bristol Robotics Laboratory, Pervasive Media Studio, SetSquared and so many others who have supported our growth. Reach Robotics began with the vision of creating advanced and accessible robotics to entertain, inspire and educate. I hope to carry that vision forward into the future.

“Following some travel and much needed rest, the journey will continue in the Non consumer Robotics sector and the STEAM Education sector.”

You probably know nothing about Consumer Robotics, Consumer robots have been part of popular culture for decades, fueling visions of having robots living alongside humans in our homes to assist with daily tasks, entertain, educate, and socialize. However, the promise of consumer robotics remains largely unfulfilled, hence the reason why so many consumer robotics companies are folding up. If for example, your company produces a robot that walks your dog down the street every day while you are at work, the question is how many people will buy such, that's why consumer robotics companies are folding up, rather than stay in one spot, they re trying to do something different, which is normal, the world is not fully ready for consumer robots.
