Nigeria political elites likes deceiving themselves. even buhari prefer a foreign package than anything Nigeria. check out his shoes, eye glass, even his Babariga may be imported. he already secured a foreign degree for his children, secured a foreign hospital for his health-care. etc. yes he order the closure of border sending direct hardship to the people at the bottom level. he is a dictator anyway.

Nigeria food sufficient program should be a long term planning ( ten years at least) cutting the importation of staple food like rice to zero level now is a wicked decision not pragmatic. there are so many lines of buisness chain that solenly dedepends on this and Nigeria in her self can't even meet up the continuous growing demand of the populace. Even China despite his rice sufficient program still import Thailand and Vietnam rice to augment the local ones.

Law of diminishing return would soon take effect, the prices would begin to drop as soon as patronage reduces significantly and people start eating more of locally sourced fish and other produce.

No, Nigeria farmers locally can't meet up the demand of his people. reasons. insuffiecent production and infrastructure are one of the major problem. it is easier and flexible to import flour from Cameroon to the people of adamawa ( border area) than to import from yola because the road are well linked up. it is easier to buy Tomato from benin republic than buying from Nigeria north to the people of lagos because of his close proximity. this is when Nigeria must welcome pan Africanism and acknowledge she can't do it all. we shouldn't allow artificial border create unneccasry wickedness and evil.

what i see is value of money will soon decrease. which have a great hamper effect on the citizens.

This is definitely the worst government you can ever imagine. Buhari and his team will never create anything of value in the society because they are just lazy and only interested in spending our money the way they like.

If truely Buhari is interested in agriculture, why can't he do at least one thing to promote agriculture. The only reason why people are not going into agriculture in Nigeria is because it is not profitable. If a trade is profitable, you won't need to beg anybody to go into it.

Buhari and his friends are not in anyway helping the farmers because you can not see any real farmer that has gotten any form of support from government in promoting his trade. The only thing Buhari is doing is blocking supplies of food and other essential commodities. This is very easy, anybody in government can do that.

What is difficult which government should be doing is how to improve on the inherent inefficiencies which does not make agric business profitable.
The old method we have being employing to do agric both food and animal production are very inefficient and the overheads are killing. Nobody can profitably do agric under these conditions. Let government provide solutions to some of these challenges and food importation will reduce drastically by itself.

The current situation is definitely a dangerous trend meant to subdue the society. The obvious result is increase in crime rate, reduced employment both in the informal and invariably the formal sector, acute poverty and all other negative governance metrics.
So Buhari is fighting both the rich and poor Nigerians at the same time.

There is poverty in the land as a result of irresponsible governance over the years but Buhari's regime is going for the kill. Who ever is close to him should please advise him to stop throwing the citizen out of jobs. It is not just sufficient to keep stopping what the citizen are doing, he has the responsibility to encourage production otherwise we are going to have real inflation which the lazy government will not be able to contain.

These evil men in Abuja always paying lip service to agric policy when virtually everything we eat is sourced from our 'poorer' neighbour countries.

Agricultural development isn't rocket science but our politicians wake up and go their offices every day with only one thing on their evil minds: STEALING

This Buhari/APC administration is a total disaster

I personally bide new ban of importation of Rice while we have our own that can boost our economic stability and provision to cater for unemployment..
if our local made rice is not sufficient for us, it will force majority of us back to farm and create more proactive in the production, our local made rice is not sufficient as a result of low patronage of it in the market, it is not well encourage for our farmer to double effort in the production also hinder the new intake to join them bcs some still prefer foreign one than our local made one no mater price it cost

You say farmers are not supported yet on the same thread you are against the very strong move that supports farmers. By removing the foreign competition farmers can now charge a fair rate and make it profitable for them.

If farmers start making profit, many more serious and hardworking individuals may join.

Leadership is taking serious and difficult decision for those who are too short sighted to see the immediate benefit, but you do it anyway.

God will punish buhari!

Instead of him to close porous borders with Niger and Chad where his criminal Fulani tribemen enter the country and become bandits, boko haram, hedsmen and kidnappers; instead of him to close border with UK so that his children and his goodself will not go for medical tourism in a foreign land any more.

Well said and even if some Nigerians don't like local rice, we have yam, cassava, potato etc and if they are not comfortable with those then they should drink water and sleep. If they still feel they must eat foreign then let them pay any amount they are told to pay and stop complaining.

Foreign rice kee some Nigerians there

Buhari is a disaster can never change same in 1984,same in 2015,same 2019, the only thing that do not change about his rule is that the people must suffer and he does not care
His first coming some food became essential commodities, you have to go through stress to get them, exchange rate was a problem, things were so terrible that people were running out of the country In droves, neccessitating a campaign by government to appeal to citizens to stay in the country, using late actor enebili enebuwa as Andrew,s same is happening today, people are running away to escape buhari misrule
So with buhari there is no hope,he is just here to have a good time at our expense but his supporters factory fitted mumy is out of this world

Dem wan start again with sponsored write ups to force the government open borders.
Wether una like or not those borders shall stay closed! For the kind of evil creeping into this country through those borders its only prayers that are keeping us safe.

I tire for Nigerians and their stupidity wallai... when our petrol keeps going throughout those borders or when arms keep infiltrating the country and all manner of humans walk in unchecked they will still complain that government is not checking the borders undecided. Its only for a month for crying out loud angry

Carve this in ur brainz people! There are always consequences for decisions taken! As for the prices of food stuffs going up its its something that should be endured till we can get a handle on those borders and secure this country.

Besides i hv a feeling all this hype about the borders closure is mainly political ,trust nigerians sha! Wa sabi shot ourselves on the foot. The advantages exceed the disadvantages. Deal with it y'all tongue
