Good development. I hope Nigeria will key in. However, what about heat?

Key into what? Our creativity, unfortunately, is universally known.

The use of Solar to generate power and other sustainable and environmentally friendly innovations like this could have made a lot of difference in terms of the overall development of our country.

This won't work in naija o, except we shun most of our lifestyles. Like harmful environmental activities. Eg burning of tyre on the road etc

Imagine boys burning tyres during festivities, road go just catch fire.

I doubt we are disciplined enough for such innovation.

Which hatred abeg? Why do you gus see problem where there is no problem?
gwarotango:
This is where you're ignorant about engineering design. Don't you think the engineers building that road won't take that into consideration? It's the first thing they'll consider before anything else, but then the hatred for the north.........

It’s a composite and must have been engineered to have superior thermal characteristics to ur regular plastics.

This is actually cool.

There is a school in southwest that allows parents pay school fees of their wards using plastic waste, I've been wandering what the school does with it but now I know better

Greetings bros, care to tell me more about this?

Imagine Plastic roads in Northern Naija, hot sun go melt them, with the kind heat were dey there
The plastic will probably be mix with bitumen and once that is done if like you can start cooking with fire wood on it, no wahala grin

It's not 100 percent plastic , its a hybrid mix of plastic and other regular road material

Already guessed this. Lemme go look this out.

Greetings

No!
It's called composite polymers. Modern cars are built using this polymers.

In case of the road construction, it won't be only polymer to construct the road but some fire repellant be added too.
Re: Plastic Roads: The Possible End Of Pot Holes And Flood In Nigeria by Nobody: 9:26am On Sep 13, 2019
We are misunderstanding the write up. What the article is saying is that a plastic-asphalt composite is what will be used. This composite has a lot of advantages. First of all the plastic component of the mix will prevent disintegration of the road, which leads to development of potholes. My only question is the mix is at what ratio of Plastic to Asphalt?

Good idea... But I'm looking at the disadvantages e.g fire on plastics, I hope the road will still stand

There are some polymers (plastics) that can withstand heat up to 300°c. Moreover, in road construction, it won't be 100% polymer as some thermals and fire repellant be added.

Modern engineering world are using polymers as alternative to heavy irons. They blend both irons and polymers for light weight skeleton.

The ratio is what the engineers are to determine. There are some plastics as strong as some iron and asphalt.

Because you hear plastic does not mean it will be entirely PLASTIC. Chill. The men who came up with this idea are not stupid.

this will not fly in Nigeria... you know why? A man once proposed a catalyst that can give roads more than 20 years life span and it was squashed.
