Nigeria’s Cadet Officer, Sunday Linus Ogbole, has won the King Hussain Award by The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was given the award for being the most improved International Cadet of the Intake on the Regular Commissioning Course. This was revealed by the UK High Commission in Nigeria on its verified Twitter handle.

The tweets read,
“Hats Off to Officer Cadet Sunday Linus Ogbole on winning the King Hussain Award by The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for the most improved International Cadet of the Intake on the Regular Commissioning Course.

Officer Cadet Ogbole has shown determination and zest. His work ethic and dedication has endeared him to his platoon. He is extremely grateful for the opportunity and is conscious of the role he must play when he returns to #Nigeria and passing on his knowledge.”

I re-read this comment from the supposed High Commission tweet, and felt slightly concerned for the new officer and gentleman mentioned. Then looking at the award he got, which was the King Hussain Award by The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for the most improved International Cadet of the Intake on the Regular Commissioning Course.

He did well for himself and the award represents a personal best and and at best, a minor honour by Sandhurst standards.

Here are the main awards for officers in Camberley. And culled from Wikipedia:

Each Commissioning Course has awards granted to outstanding cadets. The following awards are presented during the Sovereign's Parade. Others are merely listed in the Parade programme. A system of Cadet Government also recognises merit by the appointment of Senior Under Officers, Junior Under Officers, Cadet Sergeants and Cadet Corporals.

Sword of Honour:

The Sword of Honour is awarded to the British Army Officer Cadet considered by the Commandant to be, overall, the best of the course. The swords were formerly made by Wilkinson Sword but after the closure of their sword making division they are now presented by Pooley Sword.

Queen's Medal:

The Queen's Medal is awarded to the British Army Officer Cadet who achieved the highest scores in military, practical and academic studies.

Overseas Sword:

The Overseas Sword is awarded to one of the many cadets from other Commonwealth countries and from foreign armies. The Overseas Sword goes to the Overseas Cadet considered by the Commandant to be the best on each course.

Overseas Award:

The Overseas Award is the equivalent of the Queen's Medal, and is awarded to the Overseas Officer Cadet who achieved the best overall results in military, academic and practical studies.

MacRobert Sword:

The MacRobert Sword is awarded to the officer cadet considered by the Commandant to be, overall, the best of the Army Reserve Commissioning Course. This sword is also donated by the MacRobert Trust and produced by Pooley Sword.

SO I really don't understand the what the fuss the High Commission is making with its tweet. He didn't get the Overseas Sword or Overseas Award, just MOST IMPROVED of the OVERSEAS STUDENTS. Well done to him, for improving.

Winning is not always been the first, when you are improving, you are winning.
